Wow interesting povs...😳
I agree with most and especially that all those signs were left for the audience to wonder and make a story of their own. I think the very reason it made me curious was indeed their relation was so platonic but equally surreal. I mean I slightly disagree with the fact that they were like Shashi and laurent because clearly laurent was at first, physically attracted to Shashi. Obviously her cooking skills, her confidence, her nature and other things played a role but a lot of physical attraction was there. But Jugs and Kaira were so emotionally intimate. Also I don't think Kaira fell for Jugs...for her it was the affection for the one and only person who could help her deal with her issues. Who could give validation to her in a way she no longer needed any validation. For her it was all admiration and connection in a non-romantic way. But Jugs, there were so many signs. The last hug, he missing a session without notice, the chair creek and I remember he also mentioned a time or two about how beautiful she was. There were subtle hints and thats what made it more interesting.

For some perhaps, he did fall for Kaira but held back due to professionalism.

For me the whole movie and story holds validity if he doesn't. Everything does not have to boil down to romance. To me their equation was similar to Laurent and Shashi in English Vinglish. Jug being Shashi and Kaira being Laurent. Kaira falls for Jug, but Jug's affections for her have always been platonic. Maybe he cared for her more than a therapist should. Maybe he flirted a little and basked in the attention. But the equation from his side was always purely platonic.

This.
If they had given a romantic angle in the end then the whole movie would be ruined.

@bold : Interesting perspective. I saw those signs differently. I saw him missing a session without notice as a clear point that he has his own personal life, apart from Kaira's, & that he may know everything about her but she doesn't know about him (clear demarcation of them being in a professional space.) The last hug & chair creek were indicative of how he saw her not just as a patient, but probably connected to her on a personal level & as happy as he was that she was finally in a better space, it was sad for him to say goodbye because they shared some great moments together. She was definitely special. And she is beautiful inside out, so why wouldn't he compliment her? Not to mention, it would be a morale boost for her.

And yes, gotta mention that SRK/Alia shared some beautiful chemistry in the film.. their scenes flew so naturally & organically. Had he not been her therapist, I would have totally shipped them together. I can't remember the last BW film I watched which had such beautiful chemistry between the leads. Personally for me, it was Alia's best pairing so far, after her pairing with Randeep Hooda in Highway.

I also saw his missing a session, as a realization that she was getting personally attached to him. She asked him out for coffee, in the same scene did she not? And it was then he tells her this is out last week or month of sessions. He wanted to end it before she got too attached to him. He made sure no professional boundary was crossed.

About him complimenting her. He might have been slightly attracted to her. It's like they say you can check out the menu just don't eat their. Telling someone their pretty doesn't always mean your interested. Of course coming from a man who knows.

It was interesting how they kept him single too. Maybe they did want to leave it open to interpretation just so it doesn't take away from the main element of the story.

I do not think Jug was romantically inclined towards Kaira... and agree with some of the above observations... Also the missed class was more for Kaira to realise that this will end and not for Jug because he fell in love with her...
Jug is a therapist, and would get several such cases... and his relationship/emotional attachment with each of his patients would be different (little with some and more with others). He did share a special bond with Kaira... but it was not love - in romatic sense.

Since the story is related from Kaira's POV we would never know what Jugs thought about the whole thing... and how different Kaira was from his other patients. It would be good to hear his perspective though.

The beauty of that scene not only lies in the terrific chemistry that Shahrukh and Alia shared but also in the fact that whatever Jug feels isn't spelled out and is left for the audience to interpret. I don't think it was love as such from Jug's side but the noise that the chair makes at the end of the scene or the fact that he uses eye drops kind of did hint at him feeling attached to her on an emotional level. If one goes back to the earlier scene where he states the chair only makes that noise when there is something that one wants to say but can't say it out loud so I thought that symbolism at the end was there for a reason as Jug doesn't spell out what he feels. With Kaira , you know she has fallen for him or at least that's how I interpreted it but Jug is her therapist ,like he says in that scene it's normal at times for people to get attached even in these scenarios but I don't think it was love from his side. It's a special bond , one that he too felt attached too but I think that was the extent of it , where as for Kaira I do think it was a bit more.
