Jodha was stirred from her trance with a voice of a bandhi (maid) who bowed before jodha to signify her respect and informed her about Shehzaade Jalal's arrival.
The news of jalal's arrival, otherwise dull face brought a sweet glow, innocent and fresh, as her mouth twisted in delightful smile; she felt like ages past since she had met him as soon as jalal entered, he raised his hand in air a bit signaling them for the bandhis to leave them in privacy and was overwhelmed to see his love standing right in front him.
He stood still watching out for her in silent admiration spellbound by her beauty. She had donned a beautiful green loosened outfit that fastened at the neck in a V' line fashioned which had been wrapped by a long tightly fitted floor length vest, buttoned in front that emphasized her chest and had long sleeves while, the loose pant with a same color had tinge of brown shaded at the borders totally changed her overall persona.
Her long black tresses that had been loosely plaited and donned with interweaving strings of gems had now been brought in front cascading over her shoulder and down to her waist. She had adorned the typical of mughal jewelry having strings of pearl that slithered around her neck whilst, the long kundan jhumkas dangled from her delicate ears, a mang tikka that graced her partition as well as a small nath was worn on her nose that had been studded with diamonds that made her more enticing than she was.The kohl had been smudged to her eyes that only went on to emphasize her big arched expressive eyes that had hid within a torpedo of emotions if only one could dive into.
Jalal's eyes remained fixed at her. As if under the magic spell he advanced towards her, his eyes held a glint of mischief and mouth that twisted in an impish smile.
His gaze had been intense yet soothing for her as all the while she missed his presence with him that had made her feel lifeless.
Her eyes could no more hold back those gleeful tears that had poured all her hidden emotions in them and it coursed down her cheeks.
In a satisfied voice she said, "Oh! Lord! What is all this splendor and glory which I detest thoroughly".
Her low soft voice broke his reverie and with a pleasant smile he cupped her face and gently brushed his thumb to wipe out those tears while he kissed her forehead and pulled her into his warm embrace. The sense of peace and calm returned as soon as they were in each other's embrace.
The time stood still for them as both ached for this happy moment since it had been only few hours that they were separated from each other. Jodha withdrew from his embrace that had given her the comfort and the warmth she ached for.
Amidst all the spewing tensions, jodha couldn't have noticed to have a look so as to how her handsome husband looked like. She glanced at him from tip to toe and was left enthralled by the charismatic look of his.
The otherwise rajput outfit, she was used to seeing him wear them while he was in Surajgarh did make him look dynamic nevertheless, today she found him his handsomeness shouting out to her in his royal mughal garb.
He had worn a printed blue tunic on which he wore a velvety overcoat ( jama)whilst a sash adorned his waist where he placed his dagger embellished with gold, a paiyama below, that completed his royal outfit.
The embroidered turban that covered his head only enhanced his perfectly chiseled exotic features, the toned fair skin and those soulful dark orbs that spoke his love for her, embossing his dynamic, royal and charismatic persona he had.
He stood whilst gazing at her; a faint smile erupted on his lips as his one brow arched in confusion. Jodha realized what she was doing for a long time as her gaze returned to jalal, she blushed heavily and instantly lowered her eyes to avoid from getting further embarrassed.
She at once turned her face to other side when jalal advanced towards her, his eyes gleamed with mischief.
His warm hands slid around her waist, pulling her against him as he gently placed his head on her shoulder, he smelled through her perfumed rose aroma. His warm breath on her neck sent her heart in a swirl of wild beats.
"Jodha" he whispered against her ear nuzzling it. She could feel it in those soft kisses on her neck the way he had whispered her name. In a forthwith she turned and rested her head on his chest. Jalal had been awed by her coyness that left her looking all the way more alluring to him.
He lifted her face and said, "Now, tell me what is ailing you my dearest jodha?"
Jodha in a soft voice said, "Oh! Lord of my life! I cannot bear this display of razzle dazzle which I totally dislike, what is all this for? If I am to be deprived of not having your glimpse then what is the need of such grandeur of the worldly pleasures when my heart shall not live at peace of not seeing you always".
Jalal lovingly caressed her hair by making her sit beside him and assured her "My beautiful queen, I do feel the pangs of separation but with this I too have my responsibility as a Mughal Shehzaada, given that I share my childhood friendship with Gopal Singh and amidst of all this I cannot leave everything randomly and return to you even though I feel the pain of being away from you.
In two days time we shall be reaching Palampur and after which I shall try to spend most of the time with you. Jodha once for all I want to put an end to this complicated issue so that we can have a blissful life ahead and so to have a secured future a little separation should cause us no harm, don't we?"
Jodha with affectionate eyes watched him and said, "The manner in which you have to present yourself that befits your repute is understood and I acknowledge the responsibility it comes with but it is simple as that I am afraid I cannot handle this prestigious stature of a future emperor's begum".
Jalal keenly watched her with restless expressions and asked, "Why? What makes you so disturbed jodha?"
Jodha rejoined, "I feel I shall not be able to do justice with the position I will be accustomed to".
A slow smile erupted on his lips and into his eyes as he held her hand by his and said, "Jodha, why do you devalue yourself your potential? Do you want your mother and grandfather to believe that whatever the efforts they had nurtured for you was a sheer waste? It shall only go on to hurt their feelings and do you want to watch them regretting in despair? you are worthy of very status that would be bestowed upon you, as I am very sure of it and have faith jodha, you are my strength I shall want you to stand beside me and be my support in every aspect and our future ventures that will come in our lives".
Jodha replied, "I shall always be your support in your every step that would lead to you on becoming the gracious emperor in the future as I want my mother and grandfather's efforts to bear the fruits which for so long they had strived hard for".
Jalal eagerly said, "There is no way you should feel sad jodha as one knows his strengths only when he is put to test, a gold comes out shinning more brightly only after it passes through the fire and I am sure as time moves on you would overcome this fear ".
A faint smile crept on her lips as she said, "I shall try my best to do the justice for position, My Lord!"
Jalal lifted his hand and caressed her cheeks and said, "Now, I have something for you that shall bring a delightful smile on your lips and here it is", whilst saying so jalal removed the letter that been tugged into his jama and handed over to jodha, "It is your mother's letter".
"It is such a pleasant surprise" exclaimed jodha who seemed to be overwhelmed on seeing the letter that had been sent by her mother.
Jodha enthusiastically asked, "Who brought this letter and when?"
The excitement evident on jodha's face was soothing to him, he said, "Badri had given the news to Maharana and he was the one who intimidated him from the dangers hovering on us and so only Gopal Singh could arrive on time and save us from getting imprisoned by Ahmed".
"But where is he now?"
"I do not know he had gone to meet Maharana of Palampur".
"Where?"
"The Maharana couldn't disclose anything on this".
"Letter...?"
"He had passed on this letter to Maharana Gopal Singh".
"Is this my mother's letter?" she asked him with a puzzled look.
"Yes, it is, from your mother!"
"Is this meant for me?"
"It is addressed for me!"
"What does the letter say?"
"Please read this jodha" saying so he handed over the letter to her as she read the few lines of the letter again and again and her gaze lifted to his face enquiringly.
Jalal looked discontented and breathed out a long sigh, "I cannot understand the reason behind this request, as I for long decided to bring to notice the interesting history of your father but then I am afraid I cannot show discourtesy to their request and hence find myself helpless".
Jodha's face clouded over in distress "So, how are you going to let the world know about my parentage and background?"
"I have already given the appropriate information about your background to Maharana as he had enquired about it".
"May I know how did you put it?"
"I simply told him that you belonged to a very respectable Musalman family from Persia".
Jodha quirked her brow in irony as if trying to read through his eyes and said, "Oh! Lord! What a life I am going to lead, I had assumed to my own beliefs that only the poorer of the poor sometimes, had to adhere to falsehood but then here even the royal families are not exempted from it".
"Why jodha what happened?"
"Oh! Dear! Don't you feel you are giving a false character of your wife to the world?"
"It is also a part and parcel of politics my jodha, you can very well say that it is another game of politics?"
Her light brown orbs held the glint of humor as she mockingly said, "Then, am I to be known the native of Persia, a Persian blossom arrived from the distant land of Persia?"
Jalal had a kind of mischievous gleam in his eyes that toyed with the smile on his lips as he approached closer to her barely inches from her and whispered against her lips, "For me you are the most beautiful blossom in the world".
Jodha blushed and said, "But Your Majesty, I have a query for you on this, Persian girls are supposed to be the most alluring fairest and gorgeously looking damsels, how would people believe on your information if you give me such a background?"
"Jodha, let the whole Persian damsels be put together still they cannot be made to look as gorgeous as you are".
"This is all cause of your immense love and affection that you shower upon me which I do not feel I am worthy of it".
"No, jodha I am not saying this merely out of blinded love as I speak what is purely fact and let me tell you that in our palace we have so many of the beauties but none matches yours for surely I can say that".
Jodha added, "Though you haven't totally uttered a lie my dearest Lord as I have been brought up into both the customs a more on Islamic to be precise and I can fluently speak in Persian".
Jalal cupped her face and lowering his eyes he held her by his gaze and said, "No, doubt can I have, you are the most enticing person whom I have ever met".
The silence lasted for about a minute after which jodha said, "Are you at peace that we are absolutely safe here?"
Jalal assured her, "The whole of Ratangarh will raise their swords in order to protect us and what are we for, being a warrior we cannot have a seatback and let them enjoy our plight we shall definitely fight till the end".
"But what if the emperor himself arrives here?"
"I am sure he won't".
"Mirza?"
"Mirza Chachajaan is very canny enough jodha and I can certainly say that he would be the last person on the earth to persuade him to put himself in gamble".
"It means everything is settled now".
"At present nothing is clear jodha everything looks vague to me, but I can only hope all our efforts combined together we will be able to achieve our aim".
Jodha promptly latched on his words, with a hope of diverting his and her own mind to something that would be less disturbing, "Your Majesty, may I read the letter I shall like to know what does my mother has to say in this letter".
Jalal smiled and said, "Certainly, jodha I have handed the letter over to you so that you can read it".
Jodha began to read the letter...
"Dear Shehzaade,
I have revealed it to you most of the details about our unpleasant past, but then there is much more to tell you which I couldn't let you know since the time was less to divulge into the further attributes. So I decided to pen down all the particulars which I couldn't tell you openly but would be revealing it in this letter.
By the time this letter has reached in your hands I am sure you might have already touched Palampur as I am sure Guru charan and Badri would be enough to safeguard you from the lurking menace as no enemy shall be able to touch a single strand of your hair.
By now you might now that Asma and Vimla are one and the same individuals as well as the foster mother (daima) of my beloved daughter jodha. She had her betel shop set up in Delhi and frequently used to visit my daughter jodha in Surajgarh. If you spare a thought on this, you shall know what I mean to say.
It was out of complete necessity for the accomplishment of my mission to have a sharp witted person on the close quarters of the royal court to collect the details so as to what was happening in and around the kingdom and Asma was just the perfect person who could help me in achieving my aim.
You might have understood how brilliant and the presence of mind she has. It was under my guidance that she set the shop in Chakbazar of Delhi. I could meet Vimla as an when I needed to, but if I couldn't meet her in Delhi then in urgency, Badri would serve the purpose.
You might have come to understanding as how wondrous magical power Guru is bestowed with and he has been my right hand man who has been loyal to me all through the journey of my mission.
It isn't obligatory to let you know how he had successfully driven away the emperor from the very place of Maharani Mahal all thanks to his extra ordinary powers that he possessed. In the upper storey of the Mahal where the horrific and dreadful scenes were carried out to frighten the lives out of their souls needs no explanation as for one of the scene you yourself had been present there along with my daughter jodha, Guru and Badri and it was a successful attempt.
These heart wrenching scenes had created a tumult in the minds and hearts of the people around. I am still unable to come up to a conclusion about those mysterious dead bodies that made their way on the main gate of Agra but I am sure that Mahajan might have his hand over it.
Guru charan is working upon this and soon we shall unveil the truth over this. I do not have much of the information about this Mahajan as I can very well say that out of all the persons in the Mughal Court it's this person Mahajan who gained information about everything including mine and leaked it to Mirza.
But very soon he shall seal his fate his due punishment. He had kept a keen watch over my movements and I wasn't aware of this, amidst of all this I came to know that Mirza suspected about my movement if this wasn't enough then the emperor himself who otherwise, indulged himself into pleasures and luxuries of being an emperor too all of a sudden had suspicious vision on me.
One day Mahajan brought me to some place which I wasn't known off even though I had been well acquainted of the royal palace for many years as you can know the details about it from the Guru charan.
I was at last taken to a mosque wherein, the emperor had interacted with me. That day itself realization hit me hard, knowing it would be my last day in that very palace of Delhi since it was beyond doubt that Mirza won't leave any chance to take my life. But I was well prepared for this day to come.
After thorough planning I decided to buy a poison for me whose effects worked wonders upon me. The person who consumes this poison shall give the appearance exactly that matches that of the dead person only the vital power that rules our body doesn't get diminished.
This poison was my mate as I always kept it with me. As quick as possible the message was sent over to Guru charan through Vimla who remained at the entrance gate as a guard, whereby as per my request that was made through the message, my body would be burnt according to the Hindu customs and rituals and not buried and it was done accordingly as my apparent dead body had been carried outside the palace for the cremation.
The effects of this poison remains for three days and as much as I can say that for the three long days I had assumed the look of a dead person, wherein Guru and Vimla had placed me in a deserted place which was a sort of a temple as it surmised to look alike.
By the utmost care and efforts of Vimla, Guru and Badri I got my life back. I shall take in an affirmation so as to what followed after this you are very well informed off.
Possibly I cannot say whether I shall ever be able to meet you again but then if at all I live a life a bit longer than I expect I shall meet you the day you are enthroned as the next emperor of Hindustan. Do take care of my loving daughter and give her all the happiness she deserves to have as she is more precious to me than my life.
We shall earnestly pray to god that you shall have all the happiness and prosperity in your life and by his blessings you shall leave behind a legacy a fame known to all as the most benevolent emperor the world would see.
I have one more request for you and that is, Badri too is dear to me as I love him as my own son, Guru will come back once you have safely reached Palampur but whenever time persists and opportunity befalls I shall send Badri to you under affection and patronage as he is bachelor yet, find a suitable bride for him who shall take good care of him.
I have finally come to end of my letter and I would wholeheartedly pray to god for all the happiness and peace to bestow upon you and my adorable daughter to whom her loving grandfather sends her sincere love.
Love,
Mother Ganga.
