Chap 12...

Whilst the deserted town breathed through the absolute state of tranquility and peace there were two persons who seemed to have been guarding this town just at the entrance of this city.

For their solace, they could see none as far as their eyes could see, amongst one being the guru charan and the other being vimla. Vimla worked as panwali or so as to say the betel nut seller in the capital.

It had been pitch dark and even after straining their eyes for so long they couldn't see anyone and so Vimla said, "Here nothing is clearly visible, besides I do not think anyone could come here at this time of the hour".

Guru charan said, "Yes, it's certainly dark now but as we have sent badri to collect the information, so hope soon we can see him bringing us any updates".

"But he was supposed to be here two days back".

"I know that but since we had been in so much of dangers that passed through us it was better for him not to come".

"It was for sure that he was quiet near to us..."

"Oh! Yes, it's quite possible for him that he might have even entered the emperor's camp and none could see him"

"I just hope that he comes now so that he relieves us of our anxiety".

"Yes, I too feel the same".

"Shehzaada jalal is leaving this place. It's high time he leaves this place lest the danger foresees him, his mission has been fulfilled here".

"Certainly, Shehzaada has been deeply attached to jodha and I can understand that both won't be able to forget each other".

"But why do I feel so, that Shehzaada jalal won't ascend the throne whilst taking the emperor and Maqsood Mirza as the prisoners".

"With that we have left only with the hope that our dear jodha will have to wait till the emperor's death so as to be declared as Malika, god alone knows what's written in her fate".

"Yes, only almighty has the answers to all our questions which we will get to know only when the time comes".

"But why are we bothering ourselves? Do we really have to worry about all this fuss? After all its man proposes god disposes so let us wait and watch".

Guru charan with a wishful smile said, "In my old age I want to retire to my native as a big landlord and you shall rule as my queen".

Asma simply shrugged off her shoulder and with a crinkled nose she said, "You seemed to be a totally worthless man, had I been in your place I would have become the minister in the emperor's court and once our Shehzaada jalal ascends the throne I would have been the Wazir e sultanate".

Guru charan frowned, "I will rather prefer to give away his minister ship, why would one like to have a position in this emperor's court who only seems to be a man good for nothing".

Asma burst out into laughter and sarcastically asked, "Given a chance to sit on the throne of Delhi what would you do?"

Guru charan reacted, "My dear, I would choose to poison myself rather than sit on the throne".

"Well, which means you would commit suicide then?"

"Certainly, yes I do, it is considered as a sin to end one's own life but then given to the fact that you have absolutely no idea that when and where and who would poison you or strangle you or stab you with a dagger just to gain the power, in that case suicide would fit in best to it".

"So, do you really feel so that the emperor is the most unlucky man on the earth?"

"Well you can very well see that".

"As of now I am thinking of my betel shop".

"When will be Shehzaada jalal leaving this place?"

"Perhaps tonight or so".

"What about marriage then?"

"Tonight itself they would go through the marriage ceremony".

"You mean seriously? As I cannot see any marriage preparations done so far".

"Oh! Yes, the old Mir has been out for the arrangements of the marriage ceremony and he didn't let us know exactly when he would be back".

"What about the bride and the groom? Do they have really any inkling about their wedding?"

"No, they do not know anything, he would tell them once he returns back and when both the sides are willing for it then why would anyone object?"

"For now keep all your senses on high alert and keenly observe this place as I feel that someone is approaching towards us".

"Yes, I can see them coming let us see who they are?"

On their way, Vimla cast a doubtful look at guru charan and asked, "What about my betel shop?"

"Vimla there is no need to worry as I have got the information everything seems to go on well".

"Do people ask about me?"

"Oh! Yes, they very much do".

Vimla hesitantly said, "People are aware of my occasional visits outside the capital city, so I might come under their scanner".

Guru charan assured her, "Do not worry my dear, none know about your dual role as I do so you can be at peace".

"What do you mean?"

"Oh! Leave it I am so tired and do not have much of the strength in me to explain to you everything".

Vimla cried out, "Looks like Ranima is here I shall go and make the arrangements".

Guru charan interrupted her and said, "I very well recall that you were supposed to stay here and not to leave this place without her command".

Vimla observed, "It's been dark and I feel I should get lamp from home".

Guru charan in a vexed mood said, "Ok, what do you have to say on this whether we are the only spies here? I can say that Mirza too might have let his spies on loose, he is a shrewd person with extraordinary smartness, moreover I am already scared off my brother in law Mahajan".

Vimla's entire frame shook with mirth as she tried to speak, "You have sent him to Delhi to learn a lesson he never had learnt before so why worry now".

They glanced as a figure approached them and asked, "May I know who are you?"

Guru charan affectionately said, "Our gracious mother we are your children".

The lady with a genuine smile asked, "Is it guru charan I am talking too?"

"Yes, mother it's me and Vimla too".

Even in the dark the lady had a glow on her face she had distinct and sharp features, there was some kind of radiance on her face which enhanced her beauty. She had tied up her long hair into a bun, as she looked no less than a monk in an orange garb with a trident in her right hand and left hand she had a kamandal kind of a vessel meant to carry the very source of the universe, the water in it.

Her forehead had been rubbed with sweet scented sandal, along her neck hung a long string of rudraksha. Anyone who looked upon her could only feel some kind of cosmic rays oozing out from her aura such was her awe inspiring personality.

Badri had been following right behind her who stood beside her with a small bag, along with him there had been another man as from his overall appearance he seemed to look like a learned Brahmin.

The lady monk in her sweet voice said, "Guru charan I am extremely sorry for making you feel anxious about our delay".

Guru charan said, "Mother we had been through tougher times past few days and so there was no time to think about your arrival".

Her eyes opened wide as she stared at him and said, "Why what happened? Did the emperor or his brother Mirza trouble you so much?"

"Yes, mother we were pushed into trouble by the emperor to some extent".

"Oh! Dear, go ahead and narrate me your story".

"Nothing much to tell it is just that they couldn't trace anything and had to leave just like that".

On hearing this, the lady monk dint looked to be well pleased with his answer and so with a smiling face she said, "Will you mind narrating me in detail my child".

No option to escape, guru charan heaved a deep sigh and said, "They were not satisfied even after sending Jai Singh and Ahmed to capture us and so the emperor with his brother Mirza personally had come into this town".

The lady monk looked flurried at him and asked, "What then?"

With a glint of humor dancing in his eyes, he said "Then what mother they had to endure some painful experiences of our special knowledge and now I am very sure that they have left this place for never to return again".

Her face gleamed with radiance as she said, "I know that, but I just hope they haven't got any clue about his movements".

"No, not at all mother".

"I hope Shehzaada jalal is all right".

"Yes, very much he does, both are all right".

The lady grinned and said, "Now, I can see that we have come a long way in defeating the emperor as he has tasted defeat in every step. Today I feel that my most important mission of my life has been fulfilled. Guru charan I look upon to you as my son are you not satisfied?"

Guru charan in an enthusiastic tone said, "Oh! Yes, mother how could I express my feelings as my happiness is bound with yours. If you are happy then we do so, as we all love jodha more than our lives and we all definitely want to see jodha proclaimed to be the empress of Hindustan".

"How is my dear jodha doing?"

"She is perfectly all right mother, in excellent health".

"Then let us all go, as it is not good for us to linger here for some more time, you know guru that we are very much safe and secure in this deserted town".

Saying so, they all left for their homewards into the abandoned town of Surajgarh.

Meanwhile...

Jalal had been in total despondency for past few days, all his hopes had been perished off as his best friend who was known for his valor and bravery had been severely injured in the battle against Shehzaada Nazim, so much so that it had resulted into his death.

All the rajput followers who were inspired by his courage had been compelled to leave the battle field all panic struck with the depressive news of Amar Singh being dead and so in this attempt all retreated back to Ratangarh.

Omar khan had tried his level best to keep up the high spirits of the army but even with his moral boosting nothing seemed to have worked even the news of mysterious death of Shehzaada Nazim couldn't do any wonders on the army.

Nonetheless, Maharaja Jagannath of Ajabgarh had made a heavy attack on them with his huge army. Omar khan had received the information of Ahmed coming with his vast force along with Maqsood Mirza and the whole strength of the Mughal Empire.

Omar khan was ready to confront the vast legions of the emperor not bearing in mind the outcome of this conduct. He had urged with all his appeals and requests to Shehzaada jalal of joining him but to his discontent, he couldn't succeed in dragging jalal from the ruins of Surajgarh for the love of jodha.

He had been head over heels in love with jodha. His love for jodha made him completely blind so much so that the throne of Delhi was slipping off from his hand like the sand from the hour glass.

Leading a life of an emperor goaded within him sometimes, but then it disappeared as soon as it sprouted within him, with the appearance of the angelic face of jodha flashing in front of his eyes instantly, it was put it off when all the patience and love for Omar had been died out.

This made Omar khan to retreat to Mecca and advanced in the direction of Gujarat after having given the due order to all his soldiers to retire to their respective lands.

Jalal had been a slave in love for jodha for her desires and all her wishes, had she not been there the picture would have appeared to be totally different as with the advent of Jai Singh into the deserted town of Surajgarh, jalal would had gone elsewhere away from the eyeballs of the enemies.

However, jalal had been smitten by the charms and the innocent beauty of jodha which gradually refrained him from joining Omar khan or Amar Singh on the battle.

Inspite of his utmost efforts, jalal couldn't sever the love of jodha that made him remain glued to the ruins of Surajgarh.

All the luxuries and pleasures were at his disposal but the real happiness and peace which he had enjoyed was being in company of jodha that made him wanting for more.

There was no iota of doubt that he was leading a happy life here, as even the possession of the throne would have not brought such happiness for him and so gradually the ambition of becoming the emperor died out.

There was a time when he mediated in these very ruins about his future possibilities where he had two options put forth before him viz, the first being a homely peaceful life, where he was supposed to enjoy his happiness with his loyally devoted and lovable wife, whilst the second where all the world would be at his feet, the grandeur the magnificence of leading a luxurious life whilst being seated on the throne all at the expense of troubles and anxieties, life full of insecurities, where he had to be prepared for the death any time any day.

The life with loveable wife and the heavenly happiness being with her made it a better option for him. The repeated appeals from his best friend Amar could no more stir his heart and the attempts went into failures as jalal just couldn't imagine the separation from his beloved jodha and so he never could join Amar on the war.

Every single day he would come upon with a new plan, would set up a resolution to leave the town and join Amar Singh, but would end up breaking his own resolution as he simply couldn't dream of parting away from jodha.

Sometimes Amar used to be piqued at jalal's attitude, regardless of the repercussions of passing by through enemy's camp, he had risked his life and had come to confront the Shehzaada in Surajgarh who seemed have taken promise from jalal of leaving this heavenly abode of Surajgarh.

But he had failed miserably. Add on to this, jalal could take no more chances of leaving the place without any security from the fear of getting caught by the enemies.

He did try to take a risk but then, Ahmed had already been stationed himself with his huge force in this very town, before he could leave the emperor was here with his mighty mughal force to cause him further more trouble.

Despite all the difficulties and dangers lurking them there was a way where jalal could have had a chance to retreat from the ruins of Surajgarh with all the guards on but then he chose not to leave this place, at the same time the people who were protecting him at every single step didn't find it appealing to allow him to go far from them.

For all the valid reasons or so, jalal couldn't leave the ruins but offered to stay back in the deserted town.

Jalal's future looked blurred as Omar khan had retired for Mecca and the Maharana of Ratangarh, Gopal Singh had no such interest to enter into open hostilities with the emperor.

Jalal was left with only option which could act as oasis in the desert for him and that would be Prince of Palampur. If the prince willing to aid him then he could take help and safeguard him in that town as all the rajputs would protect him from any possible dangers that might await him.

They would receive him with all the pomp and splendor and if at all the emperor had his hands upon to grab the collars of the Shehzaada, he would be safeguarded by the entire rajput community against the emperor simply by risking their lives in order to protect the single hair of his head.

Few days ago, jalal had received a confidential letter from the Maharana of Palampur through his trustworthy spy; jalal had left with no option but to seek help from that noble rajput so as to remain under his shadow.

He appeared more like a hapless man with no military support of his own, his two great supporters Omar khan who, not getting any response from jalal had retreated back to lead a life in peace in Mecca and Amar Singh had suffered gruesome injuries leading to his untimely death.

The pangs of guilt pierced his heart as he could now realize and feel the gravity of the situation he was in. He knew his fate too well for landing up in the hands of his emperor; he would be shown no mercy thereby made him put into the prison.

Even though, the emperor showered some leniency on him out of fatherly affection, Maqsood Mirza the shrewd and street smart of a person he was, wouldn't have spared jalal's life and would instantaneously announce his death.

All these circumstance made him to take protection from the Maharana of Palampur. Jalal was very well disposed off with the news that the emperor had marched to Delhi to destroy Omar khan and his army.

Jalal had got the news that the emperor was in look out of Omar khan as he suspected him to be the assassin of his eldest son Nazim and so in due effects, he had issued a farman saying that whosoever, could bring Shehzaada jalal alive or dead in front of the emperor would receive ten thousand ashrafis.

The best idea that seeked to him at this particular hour was to leave this place. There was no good on lamenting over the past. He felt his fault all over him for showcasing his weakness for the love of jodha, for he had felt of loosing the throne where a timely meeting with Amar Singh and Omar khan would have got him the throne of Delhi.

Although he was fully aware that it was his act of folly, or the fact that had blinded him with jodha's love, whatever the reasons may be, he had fully lost the throne of Delhi and it was no use to repent on a thing that was never to be obtained.

He realized the insecurities at Delhi and so he chose what was best for him. Nevertheless, he never regretted of loosing the throne of Delhi infact he was more than happy to just have a glimpse of jodha and for which he was ready to loose these materialistic world just to see the twinkle in her eyes for him.

In a way there was another reason which made him hooked on to this city. Surajgarh being a deserted town was the safest place for him to settle here away from the enemy's sight.

He got to see the zeal with which he was being protected at the same time the extra ordinary intelligence of the people who safe guarded him in these ruins.

The utmost care they took in concealing him in these ruins, so much so that the emperor himself along with his vast force couldn't get any wrinkle was something that baffled him at the end.

In an attempt to capture jalal they were forced to leave this place with all the supernatural activities levitating in the ambiance, all cringed in fear and ran for their lives.

This made him convinced of his stay in this town a safe and secured place to be. He was well aware off the dangers hovering above him once he leaves Surajgarh and fate alone knew what would have happened in the midst of getting caught by the enemies and so he didn't think about venturing outside this place.

Jalal had recognized ganga as she was a kaneez in his father's harem but then he was unknown to her past life, none at Delhi were familiar with her background. There was some kind of mystery that veiled upon her life.

But one thing was sure that she always kept him well informed about every plan and plotting taking place against him in the court of Delhi, which was carried out by Mirza and accordingly, jalal could find the perfect befitting reply to it.

Observing very well that the Shehzaada's life was in danger in Delhi, jalal was told to leave the palace in the garb of a woman to Surajgarh which he had obediently followed her advice and successfully had absconded from the fort.

In this ruined city he was happy and his happiness seemed to have only increased many folds after having met jodha who had become his destiny now. Here he lived an undisturbed life where Mir khan Asma and Ismail all were ready to sacrifice their own lives in an attempt to protect his own.

Even in this town in the simplest of the ways he lived like an emperor, a kind of splendor which an emperor lives he lived.

All their efforts bore fruits when Jai Singh followed by Ahmed and the emperor himself couldn't smell the wind of his presence in this town so much so that even Maqsood Mirza had to retreat empty handed.

But the news that the emperor had decided to blow down the ruins of the city made him restless as he felt insecure in this place. Now all his hopes had come crushing down like pack of cards a total worthless man who could have no aim but to roam around and lead a life like a refuge in some place dreaded him.

In midst of all these worries fluttering in his mind there was one thing which he was firm on getting it and that would be to make jodha his companion of his life, regardless of the ramifications it brought about.

With this determination he decided to leave this place but not before entering into legal wedlock with his lady love jodha to which the old Mir khan had given his consent and had been out for the necessary arrangements to be carried out.

The chiming sound of the anklets which reverberated through the stillness of the room brought jalal back from his deep reverie. Jodha stealthily advanced towards him and stood right behind him whilst she gently covered his eyes simultaneously the clinking music of the bangles echoed in his ears as the velvety touch of her skin brought a mellow smile on his lips.

He gently caught hold of her hands and planted a soft kiss whilst breathing through the mild fragrance of her skin. She smelled like the rose buds that bloomed afresh in midst of the morning dews.

Jodha's blush rose immediately as she gently rested her head on his shoulder whilst hugging him tightly.

Chap 13

The usual quietude in the palace had now been replaced with the vibrancy of the marriage preparations that was supposed to take place in Maharani Mahal, ideally the same Maharani Mahal that had made the emperor go sleepless and haunted the minds of everyone who had dared to come into this deserted town.

There had to be specific reason so as to why the old mir khan had selected this secluded town to settle for he had could achieve the most cherished ambition of his life and that would have been possible only by staying in this very town of Surajgarh.

The lonesome buildings of this town perfectly fitted into his device that he had been waiting for so long to carry out his plan. For the sole reason he had requested the emperor to allow him to stay in this sequestered town.

For which the emperor whole heartedly permitted him to pass his life in solitude in this city, although he wasn't much aware of mir's background except that he was an old man who was a devout to the culture and religion and hailed from Bihar.

The emperor was more than pleased to allot him the monthly allowance and so the old mir khan had been peacefully living in this town along with his granddaughter jodha, servant and maid servant Ismail and Asma.

There was a kind of vagueness about his family amongst the minds of the people but jodha's existence had been in total murkiness as the old mir had preferred to keep it a secret due to the religious vow.

Also there was another major reason to keep her in concealment given to the fact that she was a beauty class apart, if the emperor got a hint of her existence in Mir's house, she would have not been spared and immediately be snatched from her family by the emperor to satiate his lust.

For all the above reasons the old man selected this secluded place away from all the hindrances.

Jodha was never a prisoner there as she was given every bit of comfort which she needed to lead a comfortable life by her grandfather, Asma and Ismail.

And so as to make her aware of the outside world, she was always been taken to the capital to see its magnificence, the grandeur with which the mughal palace stood and the life of the common people around, the huge monuments that stood a tall gaping at the people below.

The vibrant city that it was with hustling and bustling markets that carried along with it the aroma of the spices and of the ittar, the chaos of the customers and the sellers with its busy streets to gallivant around. Everything seemed to have enthralled her.

For a pretty long time the old mir lived a life of solitude in this deserted town. Till jalal marked his entry into this town, there were none except for the old mir khan and his family whilst the Moulvi of the mosque who seemed to have been well disposed off towards the old man.

This Moulvi did have many roles to play upon; he was none other than Ismail himself who would in the garb of the Mouvli receive the monthly allowances from the emperor himself on behalf of the old man.

The old mir was so sure of jalal gaining the throne so much so that the recent adversaries dint dampen his high spirit. Moreover his heart leaped with joy when he realized that Shehzaada had been fallen for jodha's charms and her beauty.

When the alliance was proposed from jalal himself, the old man was overwhelmed and whole heartedly gave his consent for the marriage and today the day was here when jalal and jodha was supposed to enter into wed lock and lead a blissful life.

The Mahal at its centre had a beautiful conically shaped structure which at first glimpse of it gave an impression of a ceiling but then it had been beautifully painted and lavishly furnished room, spacious enough so as to accommodate as many people with many secret doors and windows away from the public appearance.

Furthermore, there was another artifice to this, which is where the bedstead on the second floor along with the person sleeping on it could with ease be taken to the beautifully bedecked room which never ceased to exist with all the luxuries befitting the era.

There were beautifully painted portraits that hung on the walls that simply enhanced the beauty and the essence of the pleasure room.

From this very conically shaped structured luxurious room at the apex of the palace, ran another small way cutting through the walls that ended up right down beneath.

None could even in dreams get a clue about this secret tunnel leading down but then it had been connected to a much larger passage that ran beneath the ground.

Adjoining this passage there lay another place which was supposed to be the residence of the old Mir khan which had its free access.

If anyone would like to flee from the old man's house by concealing his identity he could do so and none would come to know except for the people around the place.

Like an apparition the person would disappear into thin air and none would even come to know about this.

This didn't end up here as this very passage did run under ground by the side of the fort beneath the hilly belt into the long distance deep inside the forest to the temple that was situated within its enclosure.

The temple evidently had been of Lord Rama as the long pathway met this very Rama temple where anyone who escaped from that secret pathway from the ruins would escort them into the outwards of the city through this temple.

Despite the vast force of the emperor that surrounded the city, their meticulous efforts to capture jalal, they had to taste defeat as both jodha and jalal when hit by the adversaries took to hideout in these very deep forests or the Rama's temple.

Meanwhile...

The preparation of the marriage had kind of its own freshness that left jalal speechless in wonder.

One could only imagine the motive behind arranging the marriage function in this chamber so as to keep the secrecy from the already moving spies of the emperors and his soldiers which could baffle even the intelligence of the spy.

The Shehzaada by nature was a beautiful young man with distinguishing personality.

There was no need for him for any extra addons to enhance his natural handsome looks. His complexion being very fair, flawless and clear, his nose had been straight, his lips red and full whilst his eyes were large with brown orbs that brimmed with intelligence in short, he was a man with dynamic looks and chiseled facial features.

Jalal had put on a golden crown that had been richly ornamented with the diamonds and the pearls. The costume that had adorned his physique had simply made him look wondrous.

Jalal had been flummoxed at the way the room had been so sumptuously decorated. He couldn't comprehend even in his dreams as to how one could carry out the arrangements of the marriage in this secluded place.

All the necessity was looked off for the performance of Hindu marriage.

A Hindu priest was present who had been dressed in white silk cloth and remained seated on the carpet on the floor whilst, the old Mir had too been bedecked in a silk cloth where another silk cloth hung around his neck giving him an impression of every bit of a Hindu.

At a far distance stood Asma and Ismail where both too had dressed up in a hindu costume whilst eagerly waiting for to hear say from the old man. But strange enough the bride was nowhere to be seen.

Jalal was taken by surprise seeing the mir and his servants in this Hindu attire. He gave a quick glimpse upon the old Mir and both his servants whilst his mind seemed to be clouded with a sense of dubiety.

For a moment jalal looked to be lost and dazed as his mind tried to fathom the situation around him, when he was drifted out of his trance with the arrival of two heavenly beauties one of which had been the lady monk who had tied her long curly hair long enough touching her waist whilst another young gorgeous lass was none other jodha, the epitome of beauty who looked no less than the damsel descended on earth.

Seeing jodha draped in a bridal outfit jalal's heart leaped with joy, he was completely mesmerized by her beauty as he kept admiring her features that seemed to have taken his breath away.

Composing himself he asked, "What is all this I am seeing jodha?" as he spoke he cast a blank look at the lady monk and to his bewilderment he found her to be very much familiar to him.

After few seconds of retrospection he realized that this very lady in monk's regalia was none other than ganga herself.

Stunned, as he stood still for a moment. Jodha in a sweet voice said, "Your gracious Majesty, she is my dearest mother".

His face bore the confounded look as he was trying to grasp the words that had managed to transpire his ears and so he in a dazed voice murmured, "G...ganga... m..mother ...of ...Jodha..."

Ganga with a beauteous smile advanced towards jalal and said, "Shehzaade jalal pardon me, but you ought to get perplexed at the very situation you are put into and the sight which you are enduring too but I would like to enlighten with all my misfortunes that had emerged on us as I was compelled to serve as a kaneez..."

As she spoke her voice choked as she couldn't speak anymore. There was momentary silence in the room, after a lull she braced herself and continued further, "Shehzaade, you still do have ample of time with you, if you do not feel right thing to marry a kaneez's daughter then you can step back..."

Jalal interrupted and said, "Why do you feel so? I am more than pleased to espouse her and make her the companion of my life. She will rule my heart and will be Malika e Hind".

Hearing these profound words from jalal, ganga's eyes welled up with tears as she couldn't hold her emotions back whilst wiping her tears she broadly smiled and said, "God bless you, I profess it to you that very soon you will be the emperor of the Mughal Empire, there will be the time when your success will reach at its peak and you would be very lovingly entitled as the guardian of the mankind".

Putting up a forced smile he said, "Oh! Mother I do not really have any hopes of getting the throne, but nevertheless I haven't still lost the strength and the courage to fight and get what I want and I will surely strive towards my aim and ambition not merely to make jodha the empress of Hindustan but to see my subjects leading their lives in peace tranquility and foremost in total happiness".

On seeing jalal in high spirits ganga grinned and said, "Shehzaade jalal, I had the same expectations from you that you would be a benevolent emperor and serve for the welfare of the subjects, I can see very well that the subjects under you would lead a blissful life".

Avidness in his voice jalal said, "Mother, if god wills everything will fall into its rightful place, as of for now I shall go ahead with this marriage ceremony with jodha although she is a Hindu by her birth but then I am a man of liberal thinking and so would I have no qualms in marrying jodha as we do have very short time and danger awaits us like a hawk".

Ganga assured him, "There is no reason for you to worry Shehzaade, as long as you are with us none can cause you any harm, in an advent of any danger we would protect you by risking our lives".

Jalal calmly said, "I know mother and I am very grateful to you, had I not received any help from your side, god alone knows where I would have been landed into".

Ganga spoke in a firm voice, "Shehzaade before you tie a knot with jodha I would like you to know about her parental background..."

Jalal placed his hand on ganga as his eyes blinked in assurance, he said, "Oh! Mother I do not seek any interest into knowing about her past, but if you want to narrate the details you can go ahead with it".

Ganga smiled and said, "Shehzaade please be seated as I would be narrating you about her family history".

The face that gleamed with radiance had suddenly fallen pale and the commanding voice had seemed to be gagged with the outburst of emotions, whilst pointing towards the old Mir she said, "Shehzaade, he is my father in law.

He was the chief of Keshpur which lies in the Subah of Bihar.

The general of Bihar had been too cruel as he slew my husband and so I was sent as a bandi to Delhi in your father's harem.

The general of Bihar had done forceful conversion of my entire family, my father in law was engulfed by a sense of humiliation as he was an orthodox Brahmin, he instantly left that place but not before taking my daughter jodha, who was merely a child of three or four years old whilst I had come to Delhi to serve as a kaneez in your father's harem.

The day we were tortured and traumatized by that general, we pledged ourselves that we would live up to this day and fulfill the aim of our lives".

The room fell into brief stillness. Lava of emotions had been accumulating within her as her eyes shot red whilst she self composed and after a brief lull she narrated the story.

Albeit, bitterness evident in her voice, she spoke, "Pardon me for this brief silence, but now you might have been aware that the same general had got his due punishment as he was been assassinated by his own enemies, but then my vengeance dint stop me here as I took vow of making my daughter worthy of an empress of Hindustan and for past twenty years of my life this thought spurred me within my soul as I strived hard to see my daughter sitting on the throne".

"I can foresee that very soon you will be adorned to the throne of this Sultanate as a chaste wife's prediction never proves futile".

"I shall prove worthy of your expectations my mother".

Jalal whilst rising from his seat, a proud smile crept on his lips he spoke, "I am sure off you are worth an empress of Hindustan there should be no place for any uncertainty in your mind jodha".

Ganga's body sang in happiness as she heard these ardent words.

After ages she felt that genuine felicity and contentment bubbling within her, albeit in a slight sadness she said, "On! My child jodha, I shall not get back to the Mughal court to teach you the lesson on politics as I would retire for rest of my life in celibacy and would meditate the name of god who dwells within my soul.

I shall see you the day you sit on the throne next to Shehzaade Jalal as the Malika of the Sultanate god bless you both".

An uncomfortable silence that had engulfed the room was broken by jalal's voice, "Mother, I would like to bow down to your efforts amidst all the misadventures that arisen, you accomplished the vow that had taken years ago.

Oh! Mother I will need your blessings to see myself tasting every bit of success and the strength that would be needed to conquer the trials and tribulations that would fall on my way and overcome all the weaknesses within me".

Ganga placed her hand on his head whilst jalal bowed his head a bit and said, "Shehzaade, the words coming from a chaste lady always becomes true".

Jalal in a curious tone said, "Mother, now I am very much eager to know about Asma and Ismail would you like to throw light on their lives too if you do not feel otherwise?"

Ganga with a satisfied look said, "Shehzaade, she isn't Asma neither she was the famous panwali Vimla but she is jodha's daima Shailaja who had been taking care of my daughter jodha in my absence and she has showered upon her all the love and care more than I could have done".

Jalal stood bemused at ganga as he tried to absorb into those words that did strike his ears a little while ago, with a smiling countenance he said, "If destiny approves I would like to reward this Shailaja".

Ganga whilst pointing a finger at guru charan said, "There he is guru charan the husband of Shailaja, we know him since his childhood but the truth is he was the most prominent man of our group as we all owe our success to him since his phenomenal powers could achieve us everything that had we planned for".

Jalal approached towards guru and whilst placing his hand on his shoulder he smirked, in a majestic voice he said, "It never struck me even in my thoughts that Ismail and guru charan are one and the same individuals, well if I ought to be the emperor then I would surely appoint you as the ventriloquist of my court, but then wait, I just changed my mind and pondered upon to appoint you on the post of Wazir, you could be the Wazir e Sultanate".

Guru charan simply bowed to him and with hands folded along his chest, he yielded, "Your Highness, its your greatness that you have find me worthy for the post of the Wazir but then pardon me, Your Majesty, I am afraid I shall not be able to do justice with the position I am given to, but one thing I can assure you that I can very well carry out the duties of a ventriloquist".

On hearing his words the entire room echoed with the boisterous laughter.

Meanwhile, their laughter ceased with the old man's loud voice that seemed to have resonated within the confinement of the walls, "The auspicious time is here, so let us all proceed with the marriage ceremony as we can have more of this conversation when the time permits".

Chap 14

Once for all, the time had finally arrived when the very much in love, jodha and jalal shall tie the knot and both seemed to look extremely excited as they would see in front of their eyes the long cherished dream happening in real which they had developed for each other.

Jodha's heart fluttered with the new sensations of entering into another phase of life, considering his own feelings, jalal's case was no less different as even he seemed to be pretty much elevated to start a new life with his lady love who had been part of his life and soul.

Jodha looked nervous as they headed towards the sacred fire where d wedding rituals were supposed to take place.

He slightly tilted his face to have a glimpse of her and realized how nervous she looked. He softly squeezed her hand whilst assuring her through his eyes that everything would be good and happened for the best.

A single assurance from him brought tears into her eyes but then these tears probably had been of contentment, his one gesture and it did worked wonders.

She immediately wiped them with back of her palm before it was been noticed by jalal. The wedding ritual started with jaimala ceremony wherein jodha and jalal both exchanged the garland of flowers.

The immediate ritual of kanyadaan had to be performed but the very thought that ganga couldn't perform this ritual brought tears of sadness into ganga's eyes which dint go unnoticed by everyone present there.

But Shailaja and Guru were kind enough and looked more than pleased to perform this ritual on ganga's behalf as they felt honored to complete this ritual since, they always cared and loved jodha as their own daughter to be precise she was more than a daughter to Shailaja and their efforts bore fruits as their long wait to perform this pious ritual had finally arrived.

Shailaja whilst placing her hand on ganga's shoulder assured her, "Oh! Mother when I have treated jodha as my own daughter why do your face bore the marks of sadness, worry not mother I and my husband would wholeheartedly perform this ritual as we both would be more than pleased and honored to accomplish this kanyadaan".

A smile of joy and satisfaction lit up ganga's face as she took Shailaja's hand in her hand and caressed her cheeks for being such a kind and understanding guardian she was.

Guru too joined in to give assurance to this motherly figure ganga and advanced towards the bridegroom to carry on the kanyadaan ritual where he placed jodha's right hand over the right hand of jalal.

After which holy water was poured on the palms of the couple, whilst the priest recited few verses of vedic hyms. Jalal wholeheartedly accepted this ritual by gently placing his hand on jodha's shoulder a kind of reassurance that he would take care of her and shower her with all the love and protection she deserved to be in her life.

The ritual of entrusting the bride to the groom was successfully performed by Guru accomplishing the ritual of kanyadaan.

Both stood to perform the next ritual which had been the mangalpheras around the sacred fire after which the saptapadi or the seven vows were taken, where as per the priest saying, jalal took jodha's hand and lead her for the first four rounds, where both took their vows of carrying out their duties and responsibilities towards each other at the same time acting towards the development of their mental and spiritual powers, where jalal took the vow of protecting jodha and their future children, thereby swapping their places jodha finished the last three rounds being ahead of the groom jalal, at the same time both took the last remaining vows of being in harmony and peace with mutual love and trust, to share and support in each other's pain and happiness, success and failure, to be loyal whilst being committed to each other only and be the true companions for the life time and work as a unit to make their marriage successful healthy and prosperous.

The ritual of seven vows culminated thereby the bridegroom remained seated as jalal filled jodha's parting lines with vermillion. Jodha and jalal got up and bowed down ganga's feet to take the blessings from her where she seemed to be at peace as contented smile crept on her lips she blessed the couple for their blissful life.

After which the newlywed couple did take blessings of mir khan and Guru and Shailaja. They were showered blessings from everyone.

The old mir suggested jalal to perform wedding as per islam mannerisms too and jalal looked very impressed with this witful suggestion of the old man.

Guru charan had already done with the marriage preparation meant to take place in the mosque and so without wasting any moment here, he advanced towards the mosque wherein the couple and others too followed him.

There could be no iota of doubt that could be left in one's mind that jodha and jalal had performed the rituals of two different sorts of wedding ceremonies one after the other.

The kazi seemed to have been waiting to carry on the rituals for the wedding. The couple entered into the mosque. Even though jodha had been wedded to jalal as per the hindu customs still she could feel her tensed nerves and wondered for what it was as she clenched on to the ends of her pallu which dint go unnoticed by jalal who lovingly looked at her and held her hand whilst once again he gently squeezed it to reassure her.

Jodha's face brimmed with glee and putting up a contented smile she faced jalal. The kazi recited few verses from kuran whilst, in between asked jodha whether she agreed to marry jalal from beneath her glimmering veils she nodded in affirmation and the kazi repeated the same words to jalal to which he too nodded affirmatively that he agreed to marry jodha.

Once the recital of verses by kazi was done he closed the book and placed it in a carved wooden box. As per the kazi's words both jodha and jalal were made to stand next to each other, where the kazi picked up an ewer of rosewater whilst jalal held out his hands, kazi poured the rosewater over them as a symbol of cleansing, the kazi then tipped what had been remaining into the translucent agate cup.

The kazi said, "Your Majesty, do drink this so as to confirm this union".

Jalal drank a few drops of the water and passed it over to jodha as she too drank the remaining water confirming their acceptance for each other.

Later that night...

Jalal entered the room albeit hesitantly as the mere thought of love of his life waiting for him sent tinkling sensations all over his body. For a moment he looked at the glittering curtains that glimmered in the soft light of oil lamps that reflected within the chamber.

He advanced towards the bed where jodha was sitting up her face had been fully covered with veil. From her body language it dint take much time for jalal to realize how nervous and uncomfortable she was, as she twisted the ends of her veil with her nervous fingers.

He sat next to her and gently unveiled to see the perfect oval shaped face, for the first time he felt she was more beautiful than she was, her delicately chiseled features, her soft skin as soft as honey whilst her large brown orbs, the depth he could only fathom by drowning into the ocean of emotions which she conveyed to him.

Jalal gently raised her chin as jodha couldn't lift her eyes up probably shy she was and so she simply preferred to look down as slight blush suffused her cheeks. She could hear her heartbeats rising faster than before.

He had been mesmerized by her breathtaking beauty as his desires quickened but trying to break the ice and make ease for her, he lovingly placed his hand on hers and said, "Jodha my love, you do not have to fear for anything. If you are not comfortable to take our marriage to next level I shall wait till you give your consent as I do not like to force upon you".

A gust of happiness filled her heart as she exhaled a deep sigh of relief after getting to know how he was making her feel comfy and wanted her to prepare her mind to enter into a relationship.

Jodha just smiled as the rush of excitement as well as nervousness preoccupied her mind as she said, "I do trust you and I would like to consummate our marriage and..."

Jalal interrupted her by placing his hand on her lips and he gently took it and touched those tender long fingers to his lips. He sensually gazed at her beautiful face as she could feel his passionate and intense gazes falling on her.

At the same time, he advanced towards her, his face barely inches from her; she could feel his warm breath on her face, whilst he rubbed his cheeks with hers. He slowly removed her jewelry which he felt that bothered him the most. He first removed her long jhumkas and sensually licked her earlobes as she closed her eyes to feel his love whilst jalal removed her necklace that been covering her neck.

He gently lifted her head and planted trail of kisses on her neck. He took off her maangtika and nath and opened her long tied silky tresses of hair that cascaded like a free flowing waterfall over her shoulders and down touching her waist. He freed her from her bridal attire and started running his hand along her soft contours of her body.

He felt his body on fire, for so long his hidden desires and passion that he had been controlling had now finally gave way, on seeing her delicate slender waist whilst her hips swelled curvaceous, her breasts large and in shape.

He felt like exploring her entire perfectly in shaped body, not wasting any moment he unrobed himself and slowly he slipped into the bed beside her. He could feel her warm body against his, as he lovingly touched her face and entwined his hands into her soft long tresses whilst smelling the aroma of her hair.

Jodha had her eyes wide open but they bore the expressions of trust, he gently pulled towards her and again planted trail of kisses, he further caressed her breast with his tongue as he could feel the hardening of her pink nipples her response towards him did encouraged him.

A thin gloss of sweat formed on jodha's body as his hands tenderly probed her. She had her eyes closed in pleasure but her lips seemed to have parted with timely moan. He parted her thighs and started caressing her.

As her body quivered in pleasure whilst her breathing fastened. She arched her back whilst a soft moan escaped her lips as she tightly pressed against him. Jalal had been judging her all the while for her to be ready as once he got the gist, he then carefully trying not to hurt her, he eased himself on her top, gently began to enter her.

He could sense the eagerness within jodha. He could feel the tightness in her yielding as he thrust harder, her cries grew louder and louder as they turned more into moan than the pain. He glimpsed at her keenly but could only see pleasure and not pain in her partially closed eyes.

After few moment he felt her at ease as he pushed passionately deep inside her at the same time, a sense of desire to protect her at all costs from all the lurking dangers engulfed his soul.

They seemed to move together as if bodies locked together entwined as their body drenched in sweat. He could no more hold back as his eyes squeezed and he fell back.

Mingled with his own orgasmic groans he could hear the moans of pleasure escaping from jodha's lips. He lay beside her, his hands cupping her lush slender curves he said nothing but then the madly in love couple had finally become one soul and one body.

She was his now and for forever.
