@ FlauntPessimism:
I have not watched much EK shows, but from what little I have seen, I feel her leads are much more "equal". The women are not Bechari's who have to be saved, or Abala Nari's with no choices etc. They are not destitute characters. They do have some choices in life and they execute it. I have not seen the show you mention as I only started watching Indian shows 5 years ago. But I have checked out a few EK shows and they are not as regressive as Gul shows. The only difference is Gul does false advertising and packages her shows targeting more progressive audiences, but deliver the opposite.
@JaiJaiRaniMa:
We are dismissive of Gul because she is dishonest. Ekta presents her shows and characters a certain way, and they are mostly consistent. Gul's are not. A lot of producers have certain type of shows to make money and then they may do superior content with 1 or 2 of their shows. But in Gul's case, she doesn't know how to run more than 1 project at a time. So I guess she doesn't have the luxury of sticking to what she promised. Her PH is mismanaged and has been in news many times for not paying people on time.
@Avangers:
Yes, the youth may discuss shows more than people who are more mature. But that depends on their background. Maybe a 40+ woman in India won't come on the internet and comment, but someone western will. So we can't generalize that everyone who comments are youth. I am not a youth anymore either. I know many others like me on different forums whom I have interacted with who are career people / married, some with kids etc. In fact, people who are much older as well. But they have a keen interest in storylines. My Mom is interested. She is not on IF, but sometimes she will comment on Hotstar after she watched something. But I agree, majority will be youth.
