The difference between Suraj and Vivaan.

So a couple of months ago, I could've summed this up in one line. One of them is an immature, insensitive prick. The other is Vivaan.
But what a long way our boy has come since then!

Warning: This is the first time I'm writing a long analytical piece. Not really used to expressing my thoughts other than through stories and merely listing scenes to prove my point. So this is me rambling, pretty much.

Also, my sentiments towards Vivaan aren't exactly kind. So if Vivaan is to you what Suraj is to me, stop reading or the forum will witness war 😆

Special shout out to Priya and Nimmi whose clear thinking and superlative writing skills I'm in awe of.

After watching today's ep, I couldn't help thinking about the Gone With the Wind analogies myself, Fia and Priya discussed all those months ago on our very first SuKor AT. I think Claudia and Siddy independently came to the same conclusion as well. (LOL sounds so pretentious, like I'm reporting the results of some path breaking research work, but bear with me just a little while longer, dear reader!).

So Vivaan said to Imli- You told me you'd leave this "gundagardi" for good and live with me like any normal housewife.
Despite everything, Vivaan continues to be an idealist. He just doesn't understand that at times, ghee seedhi ungli se nahin niklega. For those familiar with GWTW, this is where the Ashley Wilkes comparisons begin.
Aaand they end soon enough 😆
Unlike Ashley, who appreciated and even somewhat envied Scarlett's zest for life and her practicality, Vivaan has extremely high standards for everyone in his life. And is quick with a reprimand when they don't live up to these impossibly high standards. Which he himself ends up falling short of on most occasions!
He criticised Imli for brandishing a revolver in spineless Raunak's face. She was quick to point out his hypocrisy and I loved her for it.

Now coming to the point of this post.
Suraj v/s Vivaan.

Can I just say I love how Suraj shoves aside his ego every time to compliment Chakor?
Whether it's about her character
"Sab tumhare jaise nahin hai Chakor. Jisne tumhare saath bura kiya, uske liye accha sochna, aisa koi nahin sochta hai."
Her intelligence
"Agar Chakor yahan hoti, toh usse zaroor pata hota ki kya karein. Is sab mein bohot tez dimaag chalta hai uska."
Or her accolades
"Kuch bhi kaho papa, lekin bandhua billi bhaagti bada tez hai."
Even back when he despised her.

While Vivaan wants to mould his wife according to his idea of the perfect one, Suraj is in awe of his wife and is constantly changing his definition of the perfect mate (well, maybe not yet. Can never know with this guy as we barely get a peek into what goes on in his head. We'll definitely get there, soon enough).
He's slowly accepting her, warts (read the Jagat Maata complex) and all while Vivaan is gradually realising he may not exactly be able to tame the shrew (read Imli).

Also that wee scene in which on seeing a bunch of creeps eyeing Imli lasciviously, Vivaan grabs her hand and moves ahead, all dignified (sarcasm, mind you). Probably the sensible and realistic thing to do. Who would actually pick a fight with such a creep if you passed them by the street?! But this is fiction and the distinction between Mr. Right and Mr. Close, but no cigar, is whether the hero will kick the ass of any perv who eyeballs his girl.
Will Suraj do it?
I guess we'll be finding out soon enough.

Phew! If you've reached the end of this post and don't want to throw chappals at me, here's a virtual hug 🤗

Vivan is try to make imli like him... where as Suraj accept Chakor as it is.. there s the difference... even when they were enemies Suraj admired and respected her... after he makes her bandhua biwi.. st that time also he gave her importance ...which he not accepted... in all cases Suraj is a better person... better husband... better friend... and ofcourse best enemy...in marriage swap case if Suraj was in Vivan s position... he will never leave Chakor alone... that's unique character make both Chakor and Suraj special... Chakor s lucky that she got married to Suraj... there will some pbms...aag aur pataka saath honge thoh dhamaka toh hogi hi na.. Lekin khubsoorathi bhi hogiii

@Aradhna, you always leave me dumbfounded with your awesome writing. I being one of those who can't express through writing, love when someone can do so. I'd rather talk.
Loved the analysis and GWTW!

No chappals, only hugs 🤗

couldnt agree with you more --- this is what I wrote in another on Banjaraans Post -

He doesn't have a problem with Chakor's Jaggat Matha attitude. He just wants to be the 1st one she thinks about then she can go save rest of the world...

There was this scene where he was doing drunk gyming and he tells her that's why vivaan doesnt love her... I dont want your pity/favour, what goes unsaid is that he was unconsciously asking, be on my side for my sake not because you have a savior impulse but because I am your "bhagyashali ladka". Stay with me till the end not because we have to put KN in jail because your life is empty without me and you have no1 who will fight with you.

And in a way what Vivaan tells Imli, I want the simple life where we think about our own lil family... He wouldnt be able to keep with Chakor's personality to put everyone ahead of her

Whereas Suraj isn't like that, he is strong enough for her to let her be Jagth Matha, putting the world ahead of her and the cost of her own, jumping in only when she asks or she needs to be saved ( more like he has a chance to catch her in his arms) 😆😆

He is also smart enough to keep her heroics in check. he knows she doesn't have any self preservation.

She just has to open her eyes and Suraj will the most loyal, pakandi kameena she ever had.

Unfortunately this ship has most wishy washy characterization.

Loved the way u compared both Vivaan & Suraj (statistics 😉)
SUKOR hold up to what they think (straight way - Chakor / narrow way - Suraj)!
Whereas Vivaan & Imli accept immediately what others want them to accept (marriage case)!

At first I thought that suraj had a problem with chakors jagat maata attitude as he calls her, but after these past weeks I hv come to realize that suraj always knew that she cares for others more than she cares for herself...remember when he held the gun for Bijli just to make chakor eat...he knew she will do whatever he wants to save others. The thing with suraj now is that unknowingly he wants to be the centre of chakors attention...,he wants to be her first priority and then follows the rest...it was so evident during the tie scene, he had such a satisfied look on his face when all her attention was for him only.
When this guy falls for Chakor for real and starts loving her more than anything, also more than himself , chakor will have a big problem, coz his love will be so consuming and demanding. I just hope she will be able to handle him and his love for her ..

Vivaan on the other hand would never be able to handle Chakor...he wants to mould his wife to his wishes and Imli is willing to do so, but Chakor is a totally different story. I don't know how they fell in love, but Chakors personality is too strong for Vivaan to handle...

Aradhana - I'll take Suraj over Vivaan any day.
Having said that - I can clearly see weak Ashley in Vivaan - but I have not yet seen Rhett in Suraj. The way Rhett handled Scarlett was brilliant - manipulation at its best...match of equals.
I'm still waiting for that from Suraj.

Suraj compliments Chakor now - but he has also insulted her many times unwarranted - and in an uncontrolled and unjustified fashion..the whole comparison with Imli scene..the press release fiasco..so i will not give him a clean chit yet.

What I like about Suraj is that he is flawed and he knows it - acknowledges it almost brazenly and does not have pretensions of wanting to do right or being good... just wants to do what he feels like at the moment - follow his heart ... even if its not the most sensible thing to do. He's honest, human...does not aim for gentleman like behavior...will do anything to get what he wants esp for those he loves...does not like to lose...and is egoistical to a fault (well that sounds like Rhett now 😊) i'll do what i want to do and if i'm damned in the process...so be it...that's Suraj...unlike the pompous Vivaan who is so full of himself - thinks he's always right...God's gift to man scratch it...womankind...annoyingly has had Tina, Imli and Chakor fawning over him..🤢

Suraj is real and flawed thinks with his heart at all times - Vivaan is a head guy - unreal and boring, pretentious, hypocritical and judgemental.

Thanks for the call out...🤗
