So a couple of months ago, I could've summed this up in one line. One of them is an immature, insensitive prick. The other is Vivaan.
But what a long way our boy has come since then!
Warning: This is the first time I'm writing a long analytical piece. Not really used to expressing my thoughts other than through stories and merely listing scenes to prove my point. So this is me rambling, pretty much.
Also, my sentiments towards Vivaan aren't exactly kind. So if Vivaan is to you what Suraj is to me, stop reading or the forum will witness war 😆
Special shout out to Priya and Nimmi whose clear thinking and superlative writing skills I'm in awe of.
After watching today's ep, I couldn't help thinking about the Gone With the Wind analogies myself, Fia and Priya discussed all those months ago on our very first SuKor AT. I think Claudia and Siddy independently came to the same conclusion as well. (LOL sounds so pretentious, like I'm reporting the results of some path breaking research work, but bear with me just a little while longer, dear reader!).
So Vivaan said to Imli- You told me you'd leave this "gundagardi" for good and live with me like any normal housewife.
Despite everything, Vivaan continues to be an idealist. He just doesn't understand that at times, ghee seedhi ungli se nahin niklega. For those familiar with GWTW, this is where the Ashley Wilkes comparisons begin.
Aaand they end soon enough 😆
Unlike Ashley, who appreciated and even somewhat envied Scarlett's zest for life and her practicality, Vivaan has extremely high standards for everyone in his life. And is quick with a reprimand when they don't live up to these impossibly high standards. Which he himself ends up falling short of on most occasions!
He criticised Imli for brandishing a revolver in spineless Raunak's face. She was quick to point out his hypocrisy and I loved her for it.
Now coming to the point of this post.
Suraj v/s Vivaan.
Can I just say I love how Suraj shoves aside his ego every time to compliment Chakor?
Whether it's about her character
"Sab tumhare jaise nahin hai Chakor. Jisne tumhare saath bura kiya, uske liye accha sochna, aisa koi nahin sochta hai."
Her intelligence
"Agar Chakor yahan hoti, toh usse zaroor pata hota ki kya karein. Is sab mein bohot tez dimaag chalta hai uska."
Or her accolades
"Kuch bhi kaho papa, lekin bandhua billi bhaagti bada tez hai."
Even back when he despised her.
While Vivaan wants to mould his wife according to his idea of the perfect one, Suraj is in awe of his wife and is constantly changing his definition of the perfect mate (well, maybe not yet. Can never know with this guy as we barely get a peek into what goes on in his head. We'll definitely get there, soon enough).
He's slowly accepting her, warts (read the Jagat Maata complex) and all while Vivaan is gradually realising he may not exactly be able to tame the shrew (read Imli).
Also that wee scene in which on seeing a bunch of creeps eyeing Imli lasciviously, Vivaan grabs her hand and moves ahead, all dignified (sarcasm, mind you). Probably the sensible and realistic thing to do. Who would actually pick a fight with such a creep if you passed them by the street?! But this is fiction and the distinction between Mr. Right and Mr. Close, but no cigar, is whether the hero will kick the ass of any perv who eyeballs his girl.
Will Suraj do it?
I guess we'll be finding out soon enough.
Phew! If you've reached the end of this post and don't want to throw chappals at me, here's a virtual hug 🤗
