Should I be scared for my friend?

She is an Indian Hindu immigrant living in America. She even got the American citizenship recently. She tells me not to worry for her. But I think she is lying to me. Doesn't this new American President care about only White people? Even the native American citizen Blacks, Latinos and Muslims are hated by him, so other minorities must be like cockroaches for him. What respect will a Indian Hindu immigrant get now?

Hi Sayana, Being scared is not going to help you or your friend. What can you do for her just by being scared? In life we have to deal with all sorts of external situations and this is one of them. As another point, just because of what Trump has said, he wouldn't be able to implement the same easily. That is based on the way the country is. Also Trump has some regards for Hindus also. Just cool down. Your friend will find ways to help herself. This is not the first time an American president has made this type of statement to the voters. There were any number of times, the Govt: tried to limit the number of immigrants in the job market. But the way the country is, this is not easy to implement . The reasons being almost everyone in the country is an outsider. And the country progresses because it could attract the outside talent. Indians contribute a lot to the US economy and this is not something Trump could ignore.

Noticed in the post that being "Indian Hindu immigrant" was the main concern... as they being minorities must be cockroaches in the eyes of Trump..

I really appreciate the concern of TM for the respect of "Indian Hindu Immigrant" but I think Indians are quite resilient. They are fighters who survive against all odds. So I think her friend will be okay too...

But yes there is indeed some concern that people might mistake her friend for being a "Pakistani Muslim Immigrant" who I think are hated the most by Trump supporters... and THAT could be really a concern...

However, I've read posts that they consider ALL Brown people as 'Outsiders' so it won't matter much whether a person is a "Indian Hindu", "Indian Muslim" or a "Pakistani Muslim" as they will be all be treated the same i.e. as outsiders (I've not included Pakistani Hindus because as it is they have been reduced to just 2% of Pakistan's total population so i'm assuming they must be a rare sight in US).

@TM - Hope your friend remains safe but worrying wouldn't change anything so just hope and pray for the best...

The news about attack on a Muslim woman turned out to be false, the woman made up the story. So don't believe everything you read and get scared.

Louisiana student fabricated' story of hijab attack, police say

A student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette fabricated a story that she was attacked and had her hijab rippped off, police said Thursday.

The attack was one of several reported in the wake of Donald Trump's election victory.

In a press release Thursday afternoon, the Lafayette Police Department said that during the course of their investigation into the woman's complaint, she "admitted that she fabricated the story about her physical attack as well as the removal of her hijab and wallet by two white males.

"This incident is no longer under investigation" by the department, the statement said.
