I just returned from the movie and I loved, loved, loved it.
I loved it for its love for Bollywood. I loved it for Ranbir's and Anushka's performance, which is brilliant. I loved it for how strong and sorted all the women were. And I absolutely loved it for its take on love - there are so many kinds of love, and so many of them more meaningful and greater than romantic love. Honestly, this is better than anything Karan Johar has ever done.

OMFG! I'm too emotional write a proper review yet. I am going to see it tomorrow with my best friend. There are flaws in the film. But this is Karan Johar we are talking about. However - there are so so many scenes and sequences which were very fragile and complex but Karan created MAGIC like I've never seen EVER in any film omg đThe first half was so FILMY I was worried. There were laugh out loud moments which were great but I wanted to skip right to the crying bits đI honestly can't believe how WELL Karan wrote/directed the INTENSELY complicated relationship between Alizeh-Ayan đđź so mature, so realistic, so heart-wrenching 𼺠- and certainly not filmy. It was a very brave take on love for Bollywood - or ANY -wood.I know it's early days but this has got to be Ranbir Kapoor's best performance.Anushka Sharma đ omg this girl!!! I think she will be remembered for this role. It is her Mother India!!Aishwarya was gorgeous in a short but impactful role.Fawad Khan's dialogue delivery is so effortless. He's so talented.I need to see it again!!!!!!

For me all through the film i was in awe and praises except except the last 30 mins:( I wish that were not there and the movie endedwithout "that track"
Okay probably not the best way to start a review but then since few hours now i have been weeping *not or notđ* about the end and since my friends couldnt take my nautanki anymore i came here :D
The first half of the movie is beautiful!! It aint really a typical charater, i mean kjo might have taken a few movie background scores and dialogues but then ayan and alizeh stand pretty well on their own!! Their chemitry is awesome and there is no damn way that one wouldt root for their beautiful freindship.
Saba aah she is pretty and does what she has to do! The ayan saba part is shown in such a manner that it makes sure one wouldnt root for them. Srks camoe plays an important role in the script :p Fawad đ¤ I personally wanted them to show one two scenes that could help the viewers get a hold of ali and alizehs love.
There was a point were they could have ended the story beautifully with the original concept of unrequited love but then they decided to get in the additional track. The last part in my opinion wasnt necessary!!
All in all a beautiful film!! especially the first half, ayan-alizeh âď¸
4/5
Those who like ranbir/anushka should definetly give it a watch, they are brilliant in the movie:D

Am sorry if this sounds condescending but KJo honestly doesn't deserve an actor of Ranbir's caliber. The only reason his films have worked so far at least for me is because he casts really charming actors with great chemistry. Basically those who can sell mediocre plots on screen. Am probably being really harsh here but Karan is a terrible terrible director and the worst part is he also ruins all the good directors the moment they collaborate with him đ Anyways coming to the film, it's just all over the place. At one point, it's contrived melodrama at its best. The first half is really entertaining though and it's such a shame Karan couldn't maintain the momentum. On that note, how good is Lisa Haydon. She looks hot and has the most entertaining cameo in the film đ KJo is so stuck up on the idea of unrequited love that it gets really tiring after a point. We get it dude. Unrequited love is the bestest feeling ever and gives you a high and makes you a fabulous singer and makes you intense and poetic and everything. We got it the first time it was mentioned. At one point you don't even get why one character is in love with the other and why we are supposed to marvel at their unrequited love đ The irony is that you managed to convey it better in that one scene in KKHH when Anjali comes to confess to Rahul and he inadvertently breaks her heart by revealing that he loves Tina. But then KJo hates subtlety so I get why he had to repeat it so many times đ Coming to the performances, call me biased but Ranbir was fabulous. Yeah there were still those scenes where he came across as contrived but overall he freaking owned Ayaan. So uninhibited and nonchalant. He played the emotional loser to the T. Anu was OTT in a few scenes but she generally lights up the screen and looked gorgeous. Ash was gorgeous and bland as ever. She always has this made up and fake way of delivering her lines and it's no different here. Anyways to cut the long story short, I dint exactly like the film and am tired of saying Ranbir was awesome but the movie sucks đ And he is probably the only reason I don't regret watching it. Must be quite a fan uh. Damn you Ranbir đ
Just back from ADHM
Not entirely satisfying ..Watchable in parts. After a stellar first half ,the second half goes for a complete toss ..The twist in the tale is so unwanted that you feel like you are watching a diluted version of Katti Batti .Everything just falls apart at this point .The film has a decent start. The chemistry between Ranbir-Anushka keeps you hooked .They look so made for each other .The first is so breezy that you absolutely enjoy the ride. There is a constant smile on your face .The 15 minutes before the interval are probably the best part of the movie .Raw emotions that tug at your heart..Unfortunately the joy is short lived. The romance between Aish-Ranbir appears half baked post interval .No build up to their story .The pacing also gets really slow. The twist also does not work for it appears out of no where .Ranbir does well .Anushka is a major highlight .Natural performance and looks breath-ta-kingly gorgeous .Aish has a small role and does justice to it.Overall a mixed bag .Can be given a watch if you have nothing else to do2.5/5

The first half is full of fun, I did not even realise that it was interval time already. The dialogues are funny as well as the anecdotes... second half is a bit of drag... could have done with 15-20 mins less.
For me the standout performance was that of Ranbir and I am not even his fan. The movie belongs to him. Anushka is a bit shaky initially.. found her to be overacting sometimes in the first 10-15 mins but she was good later. Special mention to Lisa - she was excellent in the role.
What did not work with me was that I could
Not emotionally connect with the movie, as I normally do in most KJo movies. It is a one time watch mainly for its first half. I would give 3/5 to this.
Note: there is a surprise element in the movie for Fawad fans đ

Just got back from the theater and wanted to put down my thoughts before I forget anything! đ
Spoilers ahead folks!
The first half of the movie is kickass! Man the whole theater was just cracking up in almost every other scene! You don't even realize how quickly the first half gets over because it's that effing good! Now I haven't gone through the pages here so don't know what the "general" opinion is but for me the stand out performance is Ranbir's! He effing owns the screen when he's on it! I went in with the perception that I'll probably end up loving Anushka's performance more since I did love her in the teaser , the trailer and the songs but Ranbir...damn! The guy is so good! Ayaan is not a easy character to pull off to be honest. He is lively , he wears his heart on his sleeve, he is endearing , he is childlike and Ranbir so effortlessly portrayed each of those qualities. There is a scene in the first half where Ayaan goes to this dancing class with Alizeh...omggg! đ The whole theater is just lost it during that scene because it was hilarious! Ranbir's dancing...đ.
Now coming to Anushka , I thought she was damn good man! Some of my favorite scenes are the ones where Ayaan and Alizeh just bicker with each other during the first half. But if I had to pick some of her best scenes , it would probably be the one that happens right outside of Saba's house and the one at the end which happens in her apartment , where she tells him for the millionth time that she loves him but can't love him the way he wishes she would. I thought the girl slayed those scenes.
Aishwarya was quite good as well. My only issue was the scene where she breaks up with Ayaan. I just thought she had used way too much glycerin man! đ To the point where it was slightly distracting as her eyes were just too darn red! Her chemistry with Ranbir was on point though! I really liked their morning after scene a lot!
Fawad...sighhh! Let me just state that there was a lot of cheering (initiated by us , followed by the rest of the theater đ) during his scenes! đ I don't think Fawad has looked this hot in any other role! The beard look , the leather jackets...I mean ...yeah.... His screentime though wasn't 30 minutes , I thought he was on screen for like fifteen minutes or so. He kept appearing every now and then but I'm guessing some editing did take place as the scene that we saw in the trailer where he is hugging Anushka from behind wasn't there. But I have to say every second of his screentime is worth it! đ You know how good an actor he's when you can't take your eyes off him while he's on screen and no..it ain't just because he's hot! đ His scene with Ranbir as the end approaches was probably my favorite along with the dancing he did in CutiePie! I know I'm going on and on about Fawad but you guys got to check him out in CutiePie...for anyone who thinks the dude can't dance ...breaking news for you...he sure as hell can! đ
Let's get on to the cameos :
Lisa was effing hilarious man! Her scenes were just too funny!
Imran , I didn't really find all that great.
Alia was damn good in cameo!
Now coming to Shahrukh...sigh! I love Shahrukh with all my heart and the whole theater went bonkers when he came on screen (including us) and because of that I ended up missing a few dialogues too but having said that , I will say that I didn't think it was a great performance. I thought he overdid it a bit. I was digging the scene as soon as he came on screen and started talking but as it went on , I thought he could have taken a slightly subtle approach. Also I don't know what was going on but his eyes too appeared red! As in not as red as Aishwarya đ but his lower lids were red man and I was like what is going on! đ Did anyone else notice this or is it just me?
So all in all...ADHM has a killer first half. It's the second half where issues start cropping up in the script. I'm sure the people who have watched the movie know the ending by now and I have to say , I wish they hadn't gone with that ending they did man. Like the movie just goes in a different zone as soon you get to know about Alizeh's illness. I feel like to many that turn in the script would come across as a cop out. I wish Karan would have instead just ended the movie with them being a part of each other's life. I don't quite get the need for the ending he had here. That kind of ending is apt for a movie like KHNH since the whole storyline sort of moves ahead that way but here it sort of comes out of the left field man.
So overall...it was definitely worth the watch for me.I'll probably watch it one more time! And then a few more times when it airs on screen! đThe performances are damn good , Esp Ranbir and Anushka's , the music is stellar , the first half will make your stomach hurt from all the laughter, the second half although not perfect definitely has its moments too!
I guess that's it! I'd give it 3/5. Can't wait to read y'alls reviews now!

I loved it MINUS THE CANCER PLOT-LINE UGH. That seemed like KJo's last minute attempt to make everything even more sad lmao.Ranbir was amazing as usual. One of his best characters to date so well writtenAnushka faltered at some scenes (over-acting) but overall was nice. I bought their friendship a lot but their love story? Not that much.Aishwarya was stunning and had SO MUCH CHEMISTRY with Ranbir. I wish Saba had gotten more closure tbh.Fawad was nice in his scenes and best scene was him and RK's scene.Channa Mereya was the highlight of the movie for me - so beautifully done. Arijit's voice + those outfits + acting ---> perfectionSRK's cameo was TO DIE FOR!!! I wanted to cry seeing Dev and Pao reunite on-screen <3 The way he delivered the dialogues, the "ek tarfa ka pyaar" dialogue delivery was on point. Such a great cameo.Lisa, Imraan, and Alia also had nice cute cameos. Lisa is hilarious lmao.Overall if you want a paisa-wasool movie that does make you think about love a lot and is well-acted (editing let it down sooo much) watch it!Total Diwali fun đ

Ok here my review.
EDIT: those are my first and raw thoughts, didn't much analyze the movie. I might come back to that topic giving new thoughts about the movie.First, let me tell you how tough it was for me to catch the movie as only two theaters were playing the movie in Paris. One, on the famous Champs Elyses Road that was fully booked by the time I reached (full of the Indian Embassy members and families which pissed me off). The other one, in the suburbs of Paris, in an area I have never been to before. So it was quite an adventure I must say. But I was so excited by the idea of finally watching ADHM that I couldn't miss it and wait any longer.Let's just say that there were moments of magic (two for me, where I stopped breathing and just felt the scene like the protagonists were doing) but it could have been more powerful, more magical, more wonderful. But it lacked something. My ideas are quite confused as I have just left the theatre. Let's just say that I wasn't upper excited during the movie, looking at my watch to hope that some minutes, hours are still running.I enjoyed the movie. I loved - like true love - the music especially the songs that we didn't hear so far (the acoustic version of Channa Mereya was so delicate).Surprisingly, I wasn't much impressed by my favorite Anushka. I felt she was overacting the first scenes and her interaction with Ranbir's character was sometimes cute sometimes odd. She is surely beautiful in the movie and her character Alizeh, weird and snob, was then interesting through the movie.Ranbir and Anushka do have chemistry for sure but it wasn't wow. On the other hand, the first scenes between Ayan and Saba are super hot and really brought something to the movie. When it comes to the story, I was surprised that the spoilers I read where false which was a good news. But still I wasn't either much into the story. It was simplistic way to simplistic that sometimes I wonder if it is a 40+ year old guy who wrote the scenario. Some dialogues were flat while others where fun.On the whole, the movie is pretty decent/good but nothing memorable. As I grew up watching KJO's movies and hating most of them - except KHNH that I deeply love (even though I'm not sure if today I would still love it as much as I used to) - let's say this one is one of his bests. I felt ADHM had potential to be much more but I usually forgot that few BW movies manage to reach that level. Regarding the kind of masala movies we are served this one is definitely one of the top of the last couple of years. It has some YJHD and some Tamasha which, I believe, doesn't make Ranbir's performance memorable. To sum-up, ADHM is nice to watch (couple of tears I must admit) thanks to its beautiful shooting, AMAZING OST and few gorgeous scene (especially the one with Ranbir and Anushka dancing a valse) but could have been much better if the story had more depth regarding the subject (unrequited love), a better editing (some times I felt they edited the movie in the rush spoiling some scenes) and more interesting characters.

So i watched ADHM - There is only one world to describe it - Underwhelming.
Despite being a very realistic take on love, friendships and human relations, i couldn't connect to Ayan or Alizeh. Maybe the hyper active mode of laughing and drinking while so heartbroken is incomprehensible for me that is why or because i believe the storlyline was not convincing. KJo opted for a very easy option in the end to bring in tragedy. As an audience i could clearly see through that just to bring in a sobfest you include something like this ( not posting what because dont want to post spoilers)I don't want to sound blunt but Ranbir and Anushka's performance was below average. Anushka COULD NOT carry off the bubbly girl who is heartbroken, she lacked conviction. I was fondly reminded how WONDERFULLY Kareena potyrayed Geet in the latter part of Jab We Met. Anuskha went over board, as for Ranbir, i dont know what KJo was thinking, Ayan was a confused character who appeared as mentally unstable in a few scenes. Its all the director's fault. Karan was too scared to make an outright dark film so he threw in some songs and colours and foreign locations and gave his leads witty lines, which unfortunately didnot work, atleast not for me.I waited and waited for one moment where i could connect but i couldnt. What saves the movie are its cameos - Tahir, Saba and Ali. Surprisingly i wanted to know more about the three of them then Ayan or Alizeh. I want to know what happened between Tahir and Saba .. why did they seperate, where did Saba go off after? I want to know what happened with Ali. These three cameos get to speak the most beautiful lines of the story.Maybe that is where KJo went wrong, he focussed too much on the camoes that the entire emotion he wanted to convey was delivered by the camoes instead of the leads, and thus the leads only appeared as half baked characters.I feel bad for Ranbir, that boy had put in his heart and soul, but KJo drowned him. Anushka i don think will get effected as she is already getting praises. SRK & Fawad are already established. Fawad looked absolutely HANDSOME, and his effortless chemistry with alizeh was wonderful! Bollywood will miss Fawad!, however but Ash is going to benefit the most, and she deserves too.She looked STUNNING, her performance was beautiful, her last scene with Ranbir was the most beautiful scene of the movie according to me.On the whole - 2/5and these 2 marks are just for the cameos - three powerful performers who carried the movie on thier shoulders despite being cameos, the leads, the direction and the screenplay was half baked, also even the music during the film seemed average.

I would have honestly given the movie a very generous 8/10 if it wast for the pathetic melodramatic twist Kjo brought towards the ends. As a result my rating comes down to a 6/10.
Still very generous, especially if you consider the fact that I hate Rk-Ash-KJo and am no massive fan of Anu either đ
Will try to post a more detailed review tomorrow... Right now I am very tired and sleepy.

just back from 10.30 pm show in chennai... had very high hopes and was expecting an another rockstar... was disappointed completely... except the time around when channa mereya comes (15 mins around interval) and bits and pieces in 2nd half, it was very directionless and couldn't connect at all... i wasn't even close to shedding a single drop of tear in any scene... btw, srk's part was nice... ek tarfa pyaar wala dialog is from him in the movie and said very brilliantly... songs have few variations from the actual album and the variation is nice... acting was top notch from all.. one word - below average movie
Movie review
I had HIGH hopes which went down the drain. Not impresed with the movie. I love kjo movies but with this one I couldn't connect at all.I don't understand why ayan falls for alizeh in the first place. Rk n anu are good but they have no passionate chemistry. They give me buddy vibes.Kjo's script is half baked as well. I wish he had explored ayan saba and ali alizeh more.Alizeh's passionate love storh with ali isnt explained. So we dont understand her reasons. It is pretty much of a hotch potch plot. I wish kjo had given more time to his writing.Aish looks stunning. Fawad is charming. Lisa is funny. Imran is okay. Songs are good. But overall pretty average.

Posting my review here which might be completely polarized from the ones posted before and may contain SPOILERS
unlike a very popular opinion here I'm someone who loved the second half though last 30 mins could have been cut by say 5-10 mins... For me the real movie started after the Channa mereya sequence... What a performance by both ranbir and Anushka in that scene... The first 30-40 mins served actually no purpose except to establish ranushka friendship bond... Had that part been edited better or cut short a little it could have been a better movie... It did have some witty and lolworthy lines to keep you entertained enough but after a point you wait for the actual plot to begin... And it does begin with the entry of fawad khan... He was good in the small role done complete justice to his role.. Though he didn't have any opportunity to showcase any range in his acting...Aishwarya god the woman can look so gorgeous and elegant and yet sensuous at the same time... For me Atleast the 30 mins or so of ranbir - ash took the entire cake and I'm saying this as someone who was shipping ranbir - Anushka...Srk- that small cameo took my heart away... When I first heard the ek tarfa pyaar dialogue I thought that it would be more impactful had SRK said it. And I'm so glad that that's the case...About the performances it's said before already and I'll repeat it again ranbir fair and square owned the film for me... In fact I found his as one of the best performances of the year!! Anushka is good though she does take time to establish her feet but one she's there she's very good.. Ash' s best role for me idk Since when...The cons of the movie Is the sloppy editing the editing is so clumsy that you might start to feel that whether the film has a story to tell or no... But it does get better during the second half... I honestly don't know what was KJo thinking while writing the last 30mins and this I'm not saying sarcastically but genuinely...also one thing is idk if it's good or bad but not once did I cry in any scene ( mind it I'm someone who cries a lot like a lot in movies) and I was fully prepared to cry in this film especially in the last part but I just didn't and couldn't cry that's why I don't know if it's good or bad..!!!Final verdict: since it's Diwali and most of people have holidays these 5 days go watch it for time pass or wait until it airs on TV... It's a good one time watch... 2.5+.05(for ranbir's awesome performance)
ok i watched it and this is gonna be a completely honest review, i like rk as an actor and hav enjoyed his films before, so plz don't think coz i am an rs fan that i wud hav any bias while watching the film, coz i dont
but honestly, i was disappointed with the film, not one of kjo's best, performances were gud by everyone, especially rk and anu but the film just didn't hav that spark, that magic, that connection u want for the characters and story just was not there for memovie has some gud light moments but only in the first half, lisa haydon bought in most of the comic relief, and i liked how ayan and alizeh's friendship was starting to develop, however the movie just took some unconvincing turnsbiggest problem i had was that i wasn't convinced with ayans love for alizeh, they only knew each other for like 1-2 weeks and he fell madly in love with her? even wen she said to him so many times that she does not hav any feelings for him wat so ever, yet still he was stubborn and became so angry wen alizeh said for the 100th time that she does not love him, the friendship was more convincing than the love anglethe next problem i had was how over dramatic some of the scenes were, sorry but the scene where ayan tells alizeh he loves her on her wedding literally made me laugh, thats was just my natural reaction coz it was so silly, ayan was acting like a complete child, i didn't feel sad at all for him, plus scenes at the end of the film r also over dramaticalizeh's character is the most developed, ayans character is sweet but was too immature and child like. Aish's role is way too short, i really do think they cud hav done more with her character coz it was interesting, but unfortunately they didn't give much for her character, so performances r gud but i wudn't say they r the actors bestmovie is very predictable and cliche, the last few mins take a twist but the twist is so unconvincing and random that it just didn't help elevate the film for me(SPOILER: twist is alizeh has cancer, she leaves ali and ayan and her stay together but just as freinds, coz again she does not love him)so overall a pretty average movie, not upto all the hype being made out of it, kjo's editing and direction is smooth but there just needed to be more of a realistic connection in the film, maybe if u like dramatic 80/90's kind of bollywood movies u will like this2.5/5
Saw the film today - 1st day 1st show
the hall was 95% full for a 11.30 am show
As soon as it began and showed RK in specs giving an interview the crowd whistled and cheered
Loved the chaarcter of Ayan..I could relate to him so easily...saw only Ayan not RK at all
Some of the dialogs are just too good...loved his dance on Baby Doll and his song Gaata Rahe Mera Dil
He was too cute in the crying scenes...my heart went out to him...he made me laugh and cry with him
When Anu entered in the disco there were whistles and claps in the hall
Anu stole the show in most of the scenes for me...I saw only Alizeh not Anu...loved her dialog " Chal Hatt "
Ranushka chemistry is excellent...songs are all apt for the situations they are based on..
Channa Mereya will make u cry...any one can feel Ayan's pain in that scene...his heartbreaks so badly
Saraswati dabao dialog was not vulgar at all as it was said to be
There are so many references to K Jo's other films KKHH KHNH also DDLJ and other YRF films
Ash comes in the 2nd half and she is lovely...u dont feel the age difference between RK and Ash at all
she has somewhat about 25 minutes role but it is important to the story...though I feel it should have been longer
SRK's entry and dialog got the maximum claps whistle and cheer...could not hear some of the dialogs at all
Ek tarfa pyar dialog is said by SRK in the film...he is looking awesome in that scene
Fawad is looking dashing in the film but his role is maximum 15 minutes...RK and Fawad has 2 important scenes
1st half is all light fun and jolly... 2nd half is emotional and a bit painful
Warning...take a lot of tissues along...u will need it
after the film ended many people were crying in the hall
my rating 4.5 / 5

Finally watched it this morning! And now only got back home to sit down to type a review.. And thank god I didn't dare open this thread since Thursday night till I myself watched it!!
First of all let me tell I was in a very high end single screen (multiplex 1km away from it had all the good seats booked in all their shows) and the place I was in was filled with generally a younger audience
And the first half was a laughter riot in there.. and the only sound I heard when Ali made his entry was groaning.. which for me meant that at least the bunch I watched it with were actually rooting for Alizeh-Ayan even by then that they reacted that way.
And I wasn't the only one who was trying not to sniffle by Channa mereya came..
And finally when THE twist came, there were just gasps.. and when the end credits were rolling, and the lights came back on and Ali, Ali, Ali, Alizeh Kahaan hai tu Mere dil mein hai na a lot of us girls were still sitting and crying..
All in all it was an engaging movie for most average viewers from what I understood..
------ ----------- ----------- ------ ----------- ----------- ------ ----------- -----------
Now coming to me, I am not an average viewer. I am a die hard fan of Anushka, Ranbir AND KJo! So I went with too much knowledge (thankfully minus the actual plotđ) and with all the songs memorized and with a truck-full of expectations..
And the movie did live up to it for the most part...specially when I take it as a whole.. it did work perfectly for me despite its faults..
The first part was so breezy and hilarious.. it took a few mins to actually get on board their ride.. and catch up on speed.. but once I did it was just lots and lots of fun..
One needed to first accept that Alizeh & Ayan r people from the world they came from.. Private jet wala amir with more money than they ever knew what to do with.. So their days r filled with faltu time pass activities.. as despite coming from completely different type of cultures these 2 seemed two kindred souls.. so alike in that they were completely disconnected with their families and very today, reckless and carefree..
They r alike but completely different too. Alizeh was several lifetimes more mature than Ayan. He was just a boy..
So when they connected over a shared love of bollywood, melodrama and insanity they just clicked.. somehow maybe cz it was how Ranbir & Anu played the roles I just connected to them instantly...
And their idiotic escapades did provide a lot of fun and by the time they were on that Glazier and she was kicking him I just was at a point I was very much involved with them.. it's the most fun I have seen an onscreen couple share in a very very long time..
And then came the friendzoning and Ali coming in.. and honestly I also groaned with the others, cz I wanted to see these two together.. đ
Anyway when Alizeh went with Ali & Ayan was left behind I truly felt for him.. And now the somber mood set in and, they were all fab in the prewedding events..
and basically until interval point the last 20 odd mins was just fabulos!
Now came post interval and a heartbroken Ayan stumbles across Saba.. there though tbh I was like 'coincident much?' đ Anyway eventually when he did make the call only after 3 months I was again in the believing zone. (subtle.. but very imp)
And absolute no strings attached relationship was convincing.. and it was clear that was not something we were supposed to root for.. so there was no confusion..
And then the famous dining table scene.. this is one of the BEST scenes of the movie.. they were all so en point and just fabulous playing off each other.., I loved the two women who knew their minds..
Ayan.. was very childlike. one thing I liked was that instead of this big heartbreak totally changing him, he still was childlike.. little more mature.. that he wouldn't cry at the drop of a hat.. but still retained the core personality of the guy of the first part of the movie.. from the promos etc I expected totally different.. that he would be intense, pissed off etc..
Anyway then my absolute fav few scenes.. him calling her after so many months.. that was AMAZING!! They were just FAB in it! And great storywriting/interaction there..
and then when he finally asks her to let him go.. and to be the stronger one..
And honestly I was crying by the end.. and yet.., it was different from the ending of KHNH.. you know there from the moment what was actually happening was revealed, I couldn't smile.. I couldn't help crying all the time.. (it is my all time fav movie)
but here somehow in the most serious of situations there was laughter.. while u would gently wipe ur eyes with a tissue, because u laugh because they made u laugh when u were crying for them...
So basically... I loved it.., I am going again tomorrow mid day with another friend..
Performances: Ranbir was superlative!! I don't think Ayan of his was ANYTHING like any of his older characters.. maybe except slightly Wakeup sid.. cz there was an innocence, and not really selfishness in him.., and boy was he affectionate and hung his heart on his sleeve! Anyway he was super duper cute.. and he made me laugh, cry and just go along with his emotions..
Alizeh.. Anu lived that role.. effervescent and a true livewire..yet a woman who knew exactly what she wanted out of her relationships in life.. She made me laugh, cry and sob and smile again for her! She was beautiful through and through... one of the most beautiful n realized characters I have seen onscreen ever.. love her to bits!
honestly she was perfect foil to Ranbir. I cannot think of any other lead pair who could have pulled off Alizeh-Ayan apart from them,.
Ash was gorgeous and I loved her bits in the movie from the call of 3 months till her last scene...
Overall.. yah there were some lagging..., the editing could have been crispier.. I felt some things with Fawad & Anu went out with the editing they were forced to do.. so that some gravity/past weight of that relationship was lost..
But I'd rate it 4/5
PS: sorry it's long đ

Contrary to popular opinion I actually liked the 2nd half more than the 1st half barring the last 30 minutes.I don't know what KJO tried to do with the movie. Where is the KJO who made KANK,K3G,MNIK,KKHH ? đRomance is his forte and unfortunately this is what the movie lacks. Ayan Alizeh is friendzone department and Ayan-Saba are I don't know 'like cum lust' department may be.Alizeh's character is so weakly written. And oh boy Anushka is just so bad in the movie especially in the 1st half. Alizeh tries to come across as cool and bindaas but it looks so forced and the dialogues don't help her either.Slightly better she does in the 2nd half.Saba is another weakly written character. Just mouthing bhari-bharkam dialogues don't add substance to a character IMO. I wish Ayan Saba had few conversations cutting short few passionate moments. The Alizeh illness angle in the last 30 mins doesn't invoke any emotion.Only one factor which binds the movie together is Ranbir Kapoor and I am not a Ranbir fan. He is the only good thing about the movie along with the music. Ranbir fans will love it.He is literally the saving grace of the movie.P.S - Thank god I watched it online ...can't even call it a one time good watch.

Not a proper review but thoughts about the movie. Potentially spoilerish.
What was the point of the story? đł
It's not a bad movie, I did enjoy most of it. But that was more due to the out and out references to Bollywood. The cleverly put songs, the total filminess of the characters, the "friendly" chemistry between RK and Anu really works; but at no point could I really connect to Ayaan's love for Alizeh. More than making me feel for him, I actually clicked my tongue in disapproval with the way he lowkey and highkey demanded that his love be returned. It's like KJo wanted both Sufi and human love and he just mixed it. Despite Ayaan getting to sing songs like Channa Mereya and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil..I felt like his LOVE didn't deserve those songs. Wo feel hi nahin thi.
RK is a goood actor. He was a delight to watch. First half specially was great. You could see him falling for Alizeh and that was really nice to witness..the aced those bits. The entire Cutiepie song was top notch. His obviously fake smile, un-synchronized steps, doing absurd things in name of celebration when obviously he was dying to the point where he actually just completely broke down - it was brilliant. But the Ayaan of second half is just so...blah. Like I don't get your angst dude! We were shown Tahir as an extension of Ayaan; someone who is suffering from unrequited love but he owns it. Ayaan on the other hand never really grows up. Or if he does, we don't see it. Singing wonderfully written words and jhadding philosophical lines don't make you an Aashiq that will go down in history. Where's the intensity?
Plus the movie was giving me such strong John Green novel vibes. Alizeh is the Bollywood version of a John Green mysterious, fun loving, i-know-more-than-you-possibly-could knowledgeable girl with a past she can't escape from. She also is the one to pull Ayaan from his cave and give his life direction. I wasn't even surprised at the cancer story because that's how this usually ends. I can't even call the movie a love story, not even the one of unrequited love. Stories of unrequited or unfinished love are a sureshot formula for me to bawl my eyes out to. Here I couldn't even care less how it all ended. Instead of Ayaan maturing and embracing his unrequited love and wearing it like a crown, he remained childish and kept demanding that his efforts be realized. Alizeh did love him, he was basically her everything. But Ayaan was ready to disregard it all because she couldn't make him that one thing HE wanted to be.
And there's a random airport scene at the end because of course Alizeh's Bollywood dream has to be fulfilled. "Pyaar" and "Dosti" reconcile for what? What the hell were those last minutes anyway? Ayaan belting out my favorite lines from Channa Mereya as the closing shot of the movie only made me realize just how much of an utter waste this song is in the movie.
Also now I'm realizing the movie had only...six characters? Matlab??? I don't dislike the movie but I'm just so confused about so many things. It's more of a all hype, no substance thing. All because of Ayaan. Such a weird character through which KJo is describing the glory of unrequited love. KKHH wala Rahul with all his douchebagery of falling in love with Anjali cuz she wears a saree has more substance than this wannabe sufi lover Ayaan who kept on acting like a child till the end only with an adult skin.
In short - good acting, greaaattt music (songs and BGM), the best use of insert songs EVER but with a pretty much meh story and the utter lack of purpose in it.
FREAKIN' SPECIAL OMG SO AWESOMESAUCE SHOUTOUT to the dubstep remix of "Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo". Brilliant. Absolutely BRILLIANT!! THAT SONG NEEDS TO BE RELEASED AS A SINGLE!!

Finding some nice write-ups/reactions on the movie from Bollywood fans and sharing some of them...
Excerpt worth reading from this post: http://dontcallitbollywood.com/2016/10/29/ae-dil-hai-mushkil-spoiler-review-seriously-dont-read-if-you-havent-seen-the-ending-should-surprise-you/Phew! It's a lot, written out like that! But there is nothing extraneous, really, in the whole film. At least, that's how it felt to me. Karan wanted a message, a very particular message, and he wanted to come at it from all possible angles. And it's not the "unrequited love" message he's been selling. Or at least, not entirely.
It's not about "unrequited love", it's about what love really is, what it means. The idea is that there are many kinds of love, and the "aashiqui" love, the lovers-love, is just one small part of it. Anushka and Ranbir are soulmates, they are each other's whole lives, at the end of the film she tries to tell him that he is her family, her home, the only thing she has in the world. And through out the film, she has told him she loves him, how much he means to her. But it isn't until the very end that Ranbir finally, fully, understands the value of that.
There's been plenty of buzz about how this is just Kuch Kuch Hota Hai redux. And I see that, I do, the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai message was very similar. But the characters were slightly different. Shahrukh and Kajol in Kuch Kuch had this kind of love, this sort of all encompassing, soulmate, closer than breathing kind of love. And Shahrukh and Rani just had the lovers-love, not anything more. Kajol feels her love is unrequited, and leaves, and tries to move on and forget, but never really can. But the big difference is, Kuch Kuch implies that Shahrukh feels the lovers-love for Kajol as well. He feels it more for Rani at that moment, but the possibility is still there for him and Kajol at some point in the future. Rani's character says it explicitly right at the end of the flashback, that she thinks she may have stumbled into the middle of someone else's love story.
The bigger message is the same, that there is lovers-love (like Anushka and Fawad in this movie, or Shahrukh and Rani in KKHH) and then there is the soulmate kind of love which is just much much deeper (like Shahrukh and Kajol in KKHH or Anushka and Ranbir in this). But in Kuch Kuch, it is a little harder to see the message, because eventually Shahrukh and Kajol do become lovers. I mean, Karan puts it right there in the tagline, "Pyar Dosti Hai". But people keep hearing it as "your friend will become your lover" instead of "friendship already is love." So this time, Karan made it as explicit as possible, Anushka says it over and over and over again, until finally at the end, Ranbir gets it, their relationship and her feelings aren't meaningless, just because they aren't what he wants.
It's not just Anushka saying it. Over the course of the film, we see many different kinds of love play out, so we can see the value of what Anushka and Ranbir have together. In the beginning, they are both in loveless relationships. Ranbir is with Lisa Haydon (who is HILARIOUS!!! Oh my gosh, I could have watched a whole movie of her playing the oblivious ditz) who clearly is just with him for his money. And Anushka is with Imran Abbas, another Pakistani actor who I guess the MNS didn't care about enough to protest. He's handsome. And Anushka is only with him because her family has arranged it and she hasn't care enough to end it yet. Starting with these two superficial relationships, it's easy to see how Anushka and Ranbir have a stronger bond just as friends than they do with their mutual significant others.
But then more relationships keep being added on. Fawad shows up, and Anushka turns into a sobbing mess, and leaves with him, abandoning Ranbir. It seems like she loves Fawad more, like he is more important to her. But when she calls Ranbir to come to her wedding, she begs him, because he is her only family, the only person she wants, the only person she can ask from her side. Doesn't that have a value to him? Shouldn't we see that? And at the actual wedding, they have a big confrontation, she is sobbing over his broken heart, but there is nothing she can do. She still marries the man she love-loves, but she has tears in her eyes as she does it because she is worried about her friend. Her love for him, and her broken heart for him, is stronger than her happiness in her romantic love for her husband.
With Aish, Ranbir has all the magical chemistry and sex and good times he could want. And she's a friend too! It's an alternative to his friendship with Anushka, friendship and benefits.
And yet, just texting to Anushka makes him happier than sleeping with Aish. His platonic relationship with Anushka, just talking, is more valuable to him than his friendship-plus relationship with Aish. Again, there is love there, love that comes out without sex, that is just there between them. And it is this kind of love which Aish can't compete with. She breaks up with him not because he is in love with Anushka, she knew that all along, but because her heart is breaking since she knows they will never have together what he has with Anushka. There is something there that she just can't give him, and he can't give her.
And then there's the end of Anushka's marriage. What's the point of that to the narrative? If she's still in love with Fawad and not interested in Ranbir even after the divorce, then why? Well, to prove the point of what Anushka said way back early in her relationship with Ranbir, that friendship can't end like marriage can, that love-love can just go away, but friendship won't. Anushka is still "in love" with Fawad, but she doesn't love him anymore, she can't live with him, she can't stand what he turned her into in her jealousy, and how he kept breaking her heart. She doesn't feel for him what she still feels for Ranbir, because that kind of love isn't transient, it will always be there, unlike romantic love, which can twist and turn poisonous.
And finally, why kill her off in the end? Why make us all depressed and miserable if the main point wasn't death, but friendship? Well, how else would you end this thing? Karan wanted to make it absolutely crystal clear that no matter what happened, Anushka was never ever going to love Ranbir in that way. And there is nothing more final than death! Either her death or Ranbir's that's the only way to show that their relationship would never happen, not even 20 years down the line after the whole movie is over, it's just not going to be a thing. The death also gives a reason for a lot of tearful declarations and big idea arguments and other messy things, but Karan could have come up with some other way to do those too, I don't know, Anushka goes blind or something. The death was really needed, because it had to be final.
Although, notice, we don't end with the death. Just like Geethanjali, we end when they are still alive, with their final decisions as to how they want to play out the end of her life, as partners, just the two of them. It's not about the death, just like Geethanjali wasn't, it's about how you choose to live. And what values you place on the things in your life.
Same person's review on the movie: http://dontcallitbollywood.com/2016/10/30/ae-dil-hai-mushkil-no-spoilers-review/
Without spoiling anything, I can tell you that this is a very very good movie. And a very fresh movie. In every way, from the performances to the dialogue to the filming style. Although the dialogue and film style is what really makes it soar, for me.
The dialogue is really fantastic. There are a ton of film references, for one thing, which I always like, but they don't feel forced or "cute". They feel natural, the way people really talk, throwing in quotes and allusions in the midst of a regular sentence. But it's also clever and detailed and written differently for each character. Ranbir and Anushka have a certain rhythm when they speak, natural and comfortable right off the bat, finishing each other's sentences. Ranbir and Aish never quite connect like that. She takes the lead in all their conversations, directing what he is allowed to say and do. And while she is all cool and poetic in how she talks, it kind of forces him onto his back foot, makes him hesitate to talk, and start and stop sentences, and more often just react to what she said rather than adding anything new. And Fawad is intense, speaks only a few words, but makes them count. And then there's Lisa Haydon's hilarious character, who has her own very specific dialogue, a mixture of English and weak Hindi, and a babble with no real content to it. I haven't heard this kind of confident dialogue since, I don't know, maybe even Dil Chahta Hai? Yeah, it's that good.
The performances are amazing too. Ranbir, sure, he's the centerpiece. But he isn't actually the strongest performance, or the hardest role to play. I am very impressed with him, don't get me wrong, especially the way he transitions through the years. And his willingness to appear young and foolish in the beginning. But Anushka has a much harder part. She doesn't get many big speeches or revealing moments. She has to tell us what is going on in the character's head through little expressions, tiny moments. And she has to make her character complicated and flawed, but still someone we can love just as much as Ranbir does. Fawad does a good job as well, but he just has to be shockingly attractive and bearded, which is well within his abilities.
Aish...is okay. It's a perfect role for her. Way way back when this film was first announced and it was rumored to be a remake of Doosra Aadmi, I said that if it is like the original, and Aish's character is a seemingly sophisticated woman who is above petty emotions, but is actually hiding some deep emotions, it could be great casting. And that's more or less what she is. A character who uses her surface relationships and clever dialogue to protect herself, to hide her feelings. And all of Aish's cosmopolitan manner and practiced performance techniques, all of that, ends up just supporting her character as someone who doesn't like to let people all the way in.
And then there's the filming. I'm guessing Karan changed cameras, like the actual physical object he was using, for this film versus his others. There is so much more motion and quickness to it. Little glimpses of life and moments that flash by before you can grab them. And then other moments that just last and last. There's one close-up of Ranbir I remember that felt like it went on forever, I kept waiting for the cut that never came, because I didn't want to be pulled that much into his pain. It also probably has to do with this cast, especially Ranbir. Ranbir is such an intense actor, so in the moment, so fresh. He shines with these close-ups, and with all the almost improvised character moments that happen earlier.
And yet that fresh camera style is combined with the classic Karan mastery of mise-en-scene. I've mentioned before that I think he in inherited more of his uncle Yash's technique with that, than Yash's own son did. The costumes, the set design, the color palette, they are all on point! For instance, notice how Ranbir's look changes from beginning to end of the film, while Anushka's stays more or less the same. Even to the point of wearing a similar outfit at one point towards the end to exactly what she was wearing in her first scene. Anushka's character knows herself and who she is all along, Ranbir's doesn't. The film is filled with little things like that, stuff you don't consciously notice as an audience member, but which registers on some level and tells you something you wouldn't really know otherwise.
So, yeah, see this movie! Really really well-made film. And with a fresh take on an old story.

Bollywood Review: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Author Maahin Date 29/10/2016Comments: Leave a commentStarring: Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Fawad Khan, Lisa Haydon, Imran AbbasDirected by: Karan JoharA new film directed by Karan Johar is the most excited I can possibly get for a film, not just a Bollywood film. His work has a special place in my film-loving heart, and yes they might be cheesy or flawed, but they're the films I grew up on, and they are what I love about Bollywood and the musical genre. I'm a little biased, and thought about not writing a review. But after 14 tweets, I still had plenty to say, and so here it is.Student of the Year seems like a bit of an anomaly in his filmography, even though I enjoyed it very much, as his latest, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, sees him continue to mature in the stories he tells on screen. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was the young love story, which he followed up with the family saga Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, then marriage and infidelity in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and then moving onto a protagonist with Asperger's in Post 9/11 USA in My Name Is Khan. After focusing on young love again with SOTY, Karan Johar returns to focusing on more complicated relationships than the naive ideas of love his films once portrayed. Ae Dil focuses on, 'ek tarfa pyaar' or unrequited love, as his hero Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor) falls madly in love with filmy, Bollywood-loving Alizeh (Anushka Sharma), who can't give Ayan the kind of love he wants in return. I won't explain the plot any further, as it's better to watch it play out, rather than read my attempt at explaining it.You would think a tale of unrequited love might be a little unsatisfying to watch, but Karan tells his story so beautifully, and so completely, you wouldn't want the film to be any other way. So many Bollywood films, including great ones, feature love stories that are more than a bit unbelievable, but we accept them as part of Bollywood and necessary for the plot and so we buy into them, but Ae Dil starts to hit on something more like real life, telling us it's not quite as simple as Bollywood would like us to believe, and the love of your life might not feel the same. And this is coming from the director who made us believe in his first film that it could be as simple as 'pyaar dosti hai'.Alizeh is in a way, the obstacle in Ae Dil being the complete and happy Bollywood love story you might be expecting from Karan Johar, but I'd be surprised if anyone doesn't fall in love with her, and Anushka's performance. Karan always has great, well-written female characters, and Alizeh is no exceptions, and he made a brilliant decision to entrust her to Anushka. She added a sense of like-ability to her, despite at times being quite harsh, but more importantly she adds a genuine sense of pain and makes that pain relatable. It is her most impressive performance yet, and between this and Sultan, she deserves all the awards coming her way.Ranbir is, of course, great as Ayan, as it's clearly a role written for him, but also one we've seen him do before. There are definitely some resemblances to his characters from Rockstar and Tamasha, but Karan executes his ideas better than those two films did. It is wonderful to see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan finally work with a director again who is good enough to get out of her the kind of performance she is capable of. The trailers didn't do her justice, as she's much better than they suggest, and in a short amount of screen time, she leaves a strong impact. I didn't see Jazbaa, but she should have come back with this. Fawad Khan is also pretty good in his short role, and it's a really shame if they did in fact edit his part down because of all the drama surrounding the release of the film, but to be honest his scenes work well as they are. From a narrative point of view, we don't need to see his character more than we already do.There are a couple of nice cameos, but I don't think they're surprises anymore. Alia Bhatt's is just a fun addition, and nice of Karan to feature one of his Student's in it. Shahrukh Khan has one short, but important scene, and I really hope Karan directs him again soon. Imran Abbas and Lisa Haydon make special appearances early on in the film, and actually make a great impression. Lisa Haydon had people in stitches in the screening I went to.Ae Dil is a musical after all, and Pritam's music, and Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics are brilliant. The film wouldn't be quite the same without them. Most of the songs took me a few listens to get into them, but I was in love with them before watching the film, and then seeing them on screen just made my admiration grow. Karan uses the songs really well, but Ranbir and the lyrics made 'Channa Mereya' one of my favourite Karan Johar moments of all time. My only complaint is that 'Cutiepie' comes in a moment where some relief from all the emotions is quite necessary, but makes it difficult to enjoy the song, which I love. When I listen to it, I chuckle at the lyrics, but in the film I was in the middle of wiping away tears. The film also features versions of older songs, like 'Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo' and 'Lag Ja Gale', which I really hope they release soon. One of my favourite things about Ae Dil is how many references there are to other Bollywood films. Ayan and Alizeh are filmy people, and so make constant references to bad 80s songs, and build their friendship on jokes from Karan Johar's own earlier films. It is fairly indulgent to reference your own works, but Karan has never pretended like he doesn't overindulge as a director. And as Bollywood film lovers, the characters are of the right generation to have grown up on those films, and so it would seem weird to pretend as if films like Kuch Kuch didn't exist.I fully admit to being a massive Karan Johar fan, and therefore I don't think there would be any version of his film that I wouldn't find things in to praise. But I hope skeptics give Ae Dil Hai Mushkil a chance, because it is a beautiful film, and can be appreciated regardless of your opinion of his earlier works. There are so many aspects of the film that I could pick out as the reason to go watch it, Ranbir or Aishwarya, the music, the story, its focus on friendship as well as love, but I think what I love most, after two viewings, is Anushka as Alizeh. You can't not be impressed by her, nor could you imagine anyone else be cast in her place.

KJo knows how to choose his cast and music of the film. SRK cameo is very imp one too. Its short but how i wished it was much more longer. SRK scene was very emotional and meaningfulFawad was such a cutpie.he's very good actor. He should do more moviesđł Loved him in cutiepie songâ¤ď¸I liked ranbir more in emotional scenesAnyways threater was full. After the movie i straight went to work. I heard from few indians there. They are planning to go to watch the film. So its great buzz for the film

Okay so i saw the movie last night. I can define the movie in one word...Senseless. It seems as if there was no need for the movie to begin with.
Anyways, the first half was really good i liked it. But like everyone said the 2nd half dragged too much and was full of cliches. There was no connect between Ayan and Alizeh and i had a hard time believing that Ayan loved her to this extent. He seemed like a selfish spoiled child who wants to get a toy. Nwither could i understand why Alizeh loved Ali so much. And i didn't see anyone cry at the melodrama as well, people were so bored out of their mind in the end that they started using their phones.Karan Johar has matured as a director but this screenplay and story suck. It shows that he came up with the story in a day. The music is awesome but i don't understand why it wasn't used much in the movie and i didn't understand the logic of using Cutie Pie and Channa Mereya back to back.As far as the performances were concerned:Ranbir was really good. He embodied the role of Ayan. He is in every scene of the movie.Anushka was also really good. I didn't find her OTT anywhere as people were complaining. She was the mature and sensible yang to Ranbir's immature Yang.Aishwarya looked hot as hell and surprisingly her acting was great too. I am saying surprisingly because in the promos her bits seemed bland but overall she portrayed her character pretty well. She was poised and subtle in a very energetic movie. Unfortunately Karan gave her the short end of the stick and her role was short and ill defined. I didnt see the bad poetess angle at all. Her role could've been a full fledged movie but i guess he might be saving that for another day.Fawad Khan was good in whatever ill defined role her got. I think people in India got a censored version as i saw all his scenes that people here said were cut off. Its a shame that he cant work in Bollywood anymore cuz he has all the trapping of becoming a superstar. And LMAO at the uncomfortable silence when he came on screen.Imran Abbas cant dance worth a damn but he was okayish. However the WINNING performance for me was LIsa Haydon who was HILARIOUS. I was laughing my ass off at her scenes. She is an amazing actress and i wonder why she hasn't been given more chances. The worst performance of the movie? The award certainly goes to Shahrukh Khan. He so OTT and cringeworthy and it was completely unnecessary. 5 minute kay andar he poori film ki (over)acting kar di SRK nay. Seriously his part was a ham-fest. Hamming ki bhi limit hoti hai.Anyways, in a gist this is so tanking on Tuesday. I don't think it'll sustain. Karan Johar might be maturing as a director but he is also getting worse. I think he should start taking stories from other people and come out of his rich people problems hangover. The common 2.5/5 score by critics is totally justified for this movie.
Ae Movie Dekhna Hai Mush-kill: My review of KJo's magnum opus!
Kind of knew it would be a cheezefest, but I was surprised at the amount of times I was left cringing. The first half of the film was replete with many Bollywood cliches that Anushka and Ranbir managed to ruin with overacting. Now I can see why SRKajol etc are praised for their acting in those scenes, 'cause they definitely made it watchable, while these guys just made me go
I thought both were excellent otherwise, especially in emotional scenes. AnuBir held their own and were emphatically convincing. However, what can you do when the movie is such a cringefest? Not much.
Though there was no antagonist in this film, I felt the villain of it was KJo and the storyline. I'm sorry, but W*F was he thinking? He had a great cast, an expectant audience and his reputation behind him, but he managed to bring it all crashing down.
The second half- So, when it began, I was like, "what is so bad about this?". Indeed, the first half of the second half đ was good. Ranbir meeting Aishwarya and how he comes to his realization, his confrontation with Anushka and his plea to her were very well-acted.
Then came the part where he sings the title track- Ae Dil Hai Mushil.
Ideally, this is where the movie should have ended. I am trying to forget the movie existed after this.
BUT this is KJo, so he had to ruin it with his unnecessary, cringe-worthy and melodramatic addendum.
They should have shaved the last 20-30 mins off. Those scenes did NOTHING for the film. I wanted to leave the theatre and sleep. Sorry, but AnuBir's earnest attempts could not save it hereafter. It gave me cancer, if you get what I mean.
The film died just because they wanted to force a happy ending- one which wasn't even truly happy.
I was watching it with my friend and she hated it. She gave it 1 star. Said it was a mishmash of KHNH, KKHH and more. She liked the first half but the second half put her off completely. Went to the extent of saying, "Diwali kharab kar di".
As I said before, 2/5 stars from me aka give it a miss.

I am probably the last person on the forum to see this movie but still posting my review! There were a number of scenes that have stayed with me:- Lisa Haydon's part was hilarious and defiantly one of the highlights- Anu/Rk's recreation of Filmy Bollywood- The first meeting of Fawad-Ranbir with Anushka there.- Channa Meriya-Middle Finger scene- Aishwarya-Ranbir Clubbing Scene (I got goosebumps)- The Dinner Table Scene with Anu-Ash-Ranbir- SRK's cameo, Fawad's parts.- The final sceneAnother good thing I liked is the age difference between Ranbir-Ash WASNT EVEN BROUGHT UP! Huge step for Bollywood very progressive!đ Also loved that Aishwayrya's name came before Ranbir's in the credits---trust me...thats another necessary thing! The story was good. Was it pathbreaking? Not really! But I do like it a lot better than Karan Johar's SOTY and even KANK! But I wouldnt consider it to be on the same level as KKHH or K3G.I do feel somewhere the film needed a little more intensity in some scenes. There was a slight drop in certain places, and an extra punch somewhere was needed.Dialogues, Locations, Songs - worked perfectly no complaints there!!!People may think I am crazy to say what I am going to say right now but...I honestly feel like the best performances were of Aishwarya's and SRK's.I dont like SRK - but in the 2-3 minutes he was there... he BROUGHT the intensity that I wanted from the film. He lived and breathed every single word he spoke and sorry Ranbir fans - but he brought out and pointed out everything that Ranbir doesnt have!...SRK's command over the Hindi/Urdu language, his dialogue delivery...his IMPACT...was unmatched...and this is coming from a non-SRK fan...when I saw him I got so happy?đ It was like "oh thats what I was waiting for"... I am so glad SRK said that Ek Tarfa dialogue...I dont think Ranbir couldve pulled it off!Aishwarya Aishwarya Aishwarya...Firstly - can we talk about screen presence? If there is ever a course on screen presence, Aishwarya should be a case study! This woman owned every frame she was in! She literally brought life into the movie. The way she looked, her acting, the aura, mystery...everything clicked!...Aishwarya has always shined whenever she has done these small roles - Mohabbatein, Khakhee etc...This is another winner! Her one scene with Anushka... highlighted what Anushka lacks as an actress/celebrity. Frankly, I was more interested in her story than Ranbir/Anushka's đKaran Johar should make a film thats about SRK-Ash's story, I was more interested in that đ..and omg that chemistry that SRK-Ash hadđ˛ Somebody needs to case them together very soon because they had a lot going on!Now dont get me wrong...Anushka and Ranbir were good...Very good in fact. But my only issue with them is that they've done these roles before...several times! Its kind of like Band Baja Baarat meets Rockstar that meets Kuch Kuch Hota Hai . They've had several opportunities to do these roles so naturally they would do well in them.I just felt that having SRK-Ash in the movie worked against Ranbir-Anu...Ranbir/Anu may have had more screen time in the film...but there is something that SRK-Ash have, that Ranbir-Anu dont. I am not even talking about star-power...its just...the command they have over the screen...not everyone has that!Ranbir's character did seem a little...off...mentally...I would've liked his character to be a bit more restraint and intense...instead of how he was...it was a bit goofy. They should've either made him completely crazy...or not...they went half-way. Nevertheless, I cant stand Ranbir but this is the first movie that I have liked him in (I havent seen BarfI).Anushka did well in her parts, she overacted at times but I guess it balances out with the ending! I didnt connect with her character...and I felt nothing for her, as harsh as that sounds.Overall, I do recommend to watch the film!

First half is PERFECTION. Love how Alizeh-Ayan relationship was panned out. Pure and well put up. Favourite part of the film!Everything about first half is love. Songs, sequences, dialogues, cinematography, writing, screenplay - Karan at its best
I also liked the theme and how Karan tried not to give a cliche conclusion towards the end. He stayed true to the subject and Alizeh.Second half is where it takes a slipFilm is filled with moments. And it feels good when you think of it but bringing everything together makes it bland. Second half in specific is so sloppy with every 20 minutes a different movie with different characterisation being played out with different conclusions - Its all over the place.Aishwarya is amazing in whatever she is given but her role was unnecessary. So was the role of all other characters besides Anu-RK! They didn't contribute anything to the movie on wholeThat twist in end is so forced. I understand what Karan was trying to do but it speaks lack of creativity and effort from his side in regards with that. Were Other ways to achieve that...Anushka Sharma is BRILLIANT as Alizeh. Her character is fully fleshed and Anushka takes full advantage of it hitting it out of park. I just couldn't take my eyes of her... đAyan is a not realised properly. Her love for Alizeh had a good buildup and Channa Mereya as whole sequence was very well executed (besides the YJHD vibes) but still an element of 'junoon' seemed to be missingRanbir had to push himself hard to come above a mediocre script - which he did - He is an amazing actor. His range was impeccable.Fawad Khan :(Lisa Hayden is GOLD. She is brilliant in her cameo... She and Alizeh are what I cherished after leaving the theatresBesides all flaws, film is ENTERTAINING LIKE HELL! Especially if you go with your friends...Perfect Diwali filmI went with bunch of friends and they all seemed to love it. Channa Mereya playing in our head on loop...3/5 from me

Kjo's worst film (yes I found it worse than that crapfest SOTY)...1st half is too wannabeish filled with cliche stuff...2nd half is overdramatic, slow & scattered. Basically the film is all over the place...the sub plots & supporting characters are half baked...Coming to performances I found Anushka very inconsistent...she is very OTT in enacting "coolness" & bubbly stuff...however she potrays frustration & vulnerability well & is good in emotional scenes.Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looks STUNNING...I liked her husky voice in this film. I wish she had more screentime, her & Srk's entry got the max cheers the guy sitting behind commented on her entry that "Yaar yeh bala ki khoobsurat hai"đFawad khan was forgettable, Lisa was hilarious in parts I liked the wine scene...Alia is so talented that she can manage to annoy me in a blink & miss appearance đAnd finally coming to Ranbir kapoor well his performance was top notch, he owns the film and saves it till certain extent. Channa merya sequence was my favourite. I hope this film works for his sake.Rating 2.5 stars* from my side...watch it for songs & RK's brilliant performance.By the way occupancy for the noon show at my place was approx 80%
Just watched the film. Let me take a deep breath. Phew!
Minus the first 20 mins and the whole last act, the film is AMAZING. It is a well told romantic drama musical. The last act is so terrible, it brings down the film and I don't even see the necessity of the whole thing, except that KJo shamelessly wanted to manipulate the audience. The first 20 mins cos it came across as too unreal for me, I couldn't buy Alizeh-Ayan as characters. But it changed later.
Now to the films high point: Which was without doubt Saba for me. I loved how Ayan-Saba bonded in their first meeting. The entire change in the film's tone was surreal. The poetry, the passion and intensity between them.. it was gorgeous. It is a shame how Karan refused to dig deep here like he did with Alizeh. It was surface level yet it worked better. Maybe cos Saba as a character was very mysterious and fascinating.
I was begging for more.
Performances:
Ranbir was terrific. The character had shades of his other characters in YJHD, WUS etc and was quite similar to Rockstar yet it had its identity of its own. He was superb in the emotional scenes.
Anushka did a good job, she had the best role in terms of graph. But I liked her in the serious moments more, she was a ott in the comic scenes. Also I couldn't help but notice how similar it is to her many of her other roles-bubbly, fun loving. She was the best choice for the role though.
Now coming to Aishwarya. When I read some reviews calling her the show stealer, I was a tad skeptical cos to her screentime. But man! Did she kill it!! AND MY GOD,She looked BREATHTAKINGLY UNBELIEVABLY gorgeous, like a flawless painting. Too beautiful to be real! And her performance is even more beautiful, what a beautiful nuanced, subtle, measured performance. It was perfect! Her urdu was mashallah. The way her eyes emoted left me speechless. I could feel Saba's heartbreak in the dinner scene and her last scene with Ayan is the only scene in the whole film that left me teary eyed. She was beyond brilliant. It is truly a feat how Ash managed to do that with limited screen time, she had the weakest written role among the 3 leads but she stole the show hands down!! I so wished there was more of her.
Also super special mention about the scene with tahir(if you have watched the film you will know who it it đ) I quite liked the dynamics between Saba-Ayan, it was so so intriguing. KJo needs to make a spin off with Saba and Tahir. That is one film I'd watch without a whiff!

Watched the movie ---- story was *alright* ---- acting was *superb* --- !!!
Many loved the first half --- but for me it was *bland* --- it didn't make me laugh as much --- only remembered laughing at two or three scenes ---- !!!!!
What i loved the most were the *dialogues* --- like the one by Aish *Kya wafadaar hain aap ke aansu --- aap ke ijaazat ke bina behte bhi nahin* ---- there were many more --- can't recall them all right now -- !!!!
Loved the *Lag jaa gale* segment with Ayan & Alizeh dancing ---- so *beautiful* --- !!!!!
Many disliked the Cancer twist --- i found it okay & felt justified -- it kept the story on *unrequited love* --- sure there were other realistic ways to end the story on unrequited love --- but this one is just as realistic --- why not i mean --- many go through it & it's the bitter truth of life for many --- so didn't mind the track --- !!!
My favorite parts of the movie were the *emotional* segments --- esp *Channa Mereya* song, it's execution, the emotions displayed by the actors --- Wow --- it touched my *soul* --- *magnificent*
Ayan & Alizeh --- their camaraderie, their friendship, one sided love, being friend-zoned, the ups/downs yet their undisturbed care & emotions for each other is the *plus* of the movie --- !!!
I absolutely loved Ayan's character --- it was *flawed* --- majorly flawed --- & that was the beauty of this character --- here we had a hero who threw *tantrums*, expressed his *inner turmoil*, vocalized his possessiveness, yet danced like a *happy teary boy* with *mehendi* on his hands ---- *immature guys* can be very difficult to handle --- & there came the beauty of Alizeh--- the way she understood him --- didn't judge him when he cuddled himself on side of the road on being dumped --- lol-- didn't expect any macho behavior --- she accepted him for who he is ---- it shows in the dialogue of Ayan where he says something about the right person coming along who'll understand him for what he is ---- that was the beauty of their bonding -- !!!!
All in all ----- loved the concept --- but was a bit disappointed with the execution & story --- there was a lot missing --- !!!!
Amazing songs to be enjoyed on the bigger screen --- !!!
Fawad -- didn't like much --- Aishwarya was okay too ---- looked great with great dialogues --- but her dialogue delivery failed on many occasions --- !!!
That's it for now --- will come back later after Diwali for detailed discussion --- lolll---- !!!!

Firstly and most importantly, the second half was HEAD AND SHOULDERS above the first one for me! That's when the movie finally started getting off into scenes where you were CONNECTING to what the characters were experiencing.
After reading some of the reactions/reviews, especially some by members, I was ready to be underwhelmed by Anushka but she BLEW everyone out of the water in the first half...so much so that even Ranbir looked pale in front of her. Her screen presence, the ease with which she performs is just tremendous and she literally LIT up the scenes. She definitely has never looked better in a movie and the role/situation here required her to give a somewhat complex performance, which she definitely rose up to. Best part of everything that I saw of her in the movie is that she was able to project inner substance, conflict and soul for the character. Alizeh did not come across as hollow, shallow or 2D at any single moment. She also absolutely NAILED the Urdu lehja which was so great to see. I'd rate Alizeh above Shruti Kakkar and on par with NH10's Meera.
Ranbir had a very, very difficult role, IMO. He basically had to play out KJo's complexes about himself on screen and sell that as the HERO which is an INCREDIBLY uphill task. To be a misfit, oddball with low confidence, privileged and supremely melodramatic guy and be charming at the same time is NOT easy at all and I give full marks to RK for nailing the humour of it in the movie. You could tell that it was out of his comfort zone, but it truly made for some laugh out loud moments. In the intense scenes of course, he was honest and moving, as I always find him to be. The last rendition of Channa Mereya unplugged had me teary...and I saw some flashes of Tamasha's Ved having his breakdowns' in the scenes where Ayan would lash out in anger and channel this whole possessive side to himself. Those parts made me wonder how the movie would have gone if KJo had decided to put a totally creepy twist on unrequited love đ Anyways, in the 2nd half, the scenes provided scope for RK and Anushka to go toe-to-toe and the result was electric.
The story is definitely not strong enough for the calibre of the performing actors. There are many, many flaws...so much that most of it could probably be written better and differently with only the major theme remaining intact. But one thing I am really glad about is that it was a happy ending, or otherwise people would have truly come out W*F from it. Since I knew that the cancer twist would happen and it was a happy ending, I could enjoy ADHM as a fluffy movie about the complicated relationship between love and friendship and enjoy the conflict/interaction between the two characters. However, had I not known this or was judging the movie on its originality, it would definitely and justifiably have a major effect on how I viewed it and eclipsed what the heart of it basically was. I don't blame the people who didn't like it, I can understand exactly why.
That said, the movie still has a soul and one of the best things about it, IMO and that I haven't seen in many other movies or in fact any other movie that I can recall, is the way they again and again inserted comic elements in extremely tense scenes (pressure cooker!) which made for such a contrast in the instinctive emotions you suddenly experienced. It could take many people out of the scene, but at one particular moment, it had me laughing and teary eyed at the same time which is an interesting paradox that makes you appreciate the success of writing and acting in that moment.
I found Aishwarya great in all the scenes she did. Didn't find her falling short of others anywhere, except perhaps only one scene where she was sandwiched between SRK & Ranbir and that was more due to the awkward writing for Saba in that moment. Aaj Jaane Ki Zidd Na Karo remix was really nice, hope they release it! I actually found myself thinking that it would have been much more evolved and terrific had they shown her as a MENTOR for RK's character rather than a romantic interest, but then again, the relationship Ayan and herself shared contributed to delivering that feeling of how complicated and difficult one-sided relationships can be. Shaved SRK didn't look good in his cameo AT ALL, but just the few lines he delivered were really well done and infused meaning into the story. I didn't like the first half, so Imran & Lisa were just okay-okay for me. Fawad and Anushka looked fantastic together in the Cutie Pie sequence, but unfortunately the writing for Ali was 2D or we were never meant to see anything from his side...so he didn't have much scope to perform. I don't know why KJo cast him citing that he needed someone with dignity' to do the role because anyone else could have done this.
Rating: 3/5. Writing is as old-wine-in-new-bottle as it can get, but the incredible acting and music make it a satisfying romantic/friendship fluff.
Spoilers aheadOkay guys watched the movie last night. It was the first show for ADHM in the cinema I went to and it was packed. đłI wouldn't say it's a bad film, I genuinely laughed at a lot of the jokes. But just like LostMyMusic has said, I just didn't feel anything for Ayaan or Alizeh - okay at times I did connect, and felt for them but where I should have felt the most for them I truly didn't. I was discussing the film with my sister and we were like yeah that part was good oh that part was good and it was a good watch but just something was missing and it was the Feels. I didn't feel or fall in love with Ayaan or Alizeh. Yeah sure I liked many scenes. The light-hearted scenes were good, setting up the friendship was good, I liked how clear Alizeh was in her thought process. That vase scene about heart breaking was freaking hilarious and when it's used again that was good. But somewhere, maybe things as a whole didn't fit together. It's like when Saba comes into the pictures, Alizeh disappears.I also didn't mind that they were rich kids, who pretty have so much money that they all they do is random things and holiday and what not, that was believable because I have seen it.*Spoiler When we find out she has cancer Spoiler* I don't know if it's just me but I felt nothing at all, like ahh okay, typical plot device.I couldn't help but compare to YJHD, Bunny despite being so flawed I absolutely adored, I loved Naina, Aditi and Avi - I felt for every character. Comparisons between many KJo films and other old films were made which were obviously going to happen thanks to the nostalgia fest going on in the film. đ I legit laughed out loud when she is in that sari on ice and Ayan is so cold and she goes are you mad I'm the one in the sari and you're cold. 𤣠I mean, what do they expect when they played the Kal Ho Na Ho tune for the slow dance scene for Alizeh and Ayan when we know she has cancer. I didn't feel upset, compare that to Shah/Preity/Saif and my eyes still get teary when watching KHNH. đłđShah in his few minutes cameo made such a mark, and the audience got so excited seeing him. Most people didn't know and were like OMG WOW. đ People cheered. Even in the end credits where it said we love you Shahrukh Khan, girls screamed we love you too shahrukh. đLisa was freaking epic, everyone loved her. We were even talking about her when the film ended. One of my fav characters from the film. đ Her "VAATAVARAN" was awesome. If you know, you know. đ The dinner scene with Ayan, Dr Faisal, Alizeh and Lisa was hilarious. The Red Wine part LMAO. All of it was really good. The first half was definitely much better than the second.Fawad was good but sadly there wasn't much of him. Though he seemed so confident in his role. đłNow onto Aish, omg the woman is just freaking gorgeous!!!!đł Just unbelievably wow. Current lot of actresses are nothing in front of her. That scene of Ash and Anu, makes Anu look bad lol, even though when the film opened, I felt Anu looked her best. Ash was really good, she did well, her whole vibe was good. She did her part really well. One of her best performances I'd say.đAnu was good in her role, though at times she went over but that was most likely the character. But her character was very sorted, and well-written. Looked her best in this film after a long time but have to admit the minute she shared screen space with Ash, she looked nothing in comparison. đđłRanbir was good but he overdid it at times. Maybe it's the character but I don't know what went wrong. Yes I laughed when he would cry at stuff, it was funny but I didn't feel for him at all. I mean, there were parts in the film and I was like yeah Ranbir is back and the guy deserves to here but the writing failed him, the character failed him and somewhere he didn't do his best. I have said this many times that Ranbir has been over-hyped from the get go but he also is quite good (I guess with mostly mediocracy around, someone who has actual talent even if it's not that much will be hyped, pretty much like Alia isđ). This overhype is killing Ranbir, people expect way too much and this is what has caused his downfall. Keep low expectations and that's when people go crazy. I'm not saying he was horrible but at times it just didn't work. Though he deserves to do well, I'd pick Ranbir over Arjun any day, so much more talented. People gave him the title of being a superstar and super talented way too early, problem was that he came at a time when most newbies previously were horrible and at that time people were ready to watch fresh faces, and he had much more potential than any Zayed or Fardeen and so worked. But he was put on such a high pedestal, and it's becoming tough for him to maintain it.The cancer track ruined it, and the awful confrontation scene when he is asking a fourth stage cancer patient to love him. đI went in wanting to love the film and it was getting there at times but they missed the plot, sadly. The friendship angle was good, I loved how Alizeh was clear that she wasn't in love with him in a romantic way it was purely friendship. Is that not possible, KJo did a fab job by not having Alizeh bend and somehow magically falling in love with Ayan. I liked that, but Ranbir's character was ruined despite having learnt so much over time - which proved he never learnt anything. Not saying that isn't possible but somewhere it didn't translate well on screen. Fair enough if KJo didn't want Ranbir to evolve completely and understand Alizeh won't love him, I get that but he just didn't do it right and that's why I felt nothing for his love not being reciprocated. See the scene by the fire after they do the Chandni recreation(which by the way was hilarious - though at times just like in ADHM, I have noticed many Indian movies try so hard with these kinds of jokes and even though you laugh you know how "try hard" it is and not at all effortless!) where he goes I'm attracted, are you not attracted, I felt that was done really well and I loved it. Somehow they didn't carry the mood and style throughout the film.Again the dinner scene with Ash, Ranbir and Anu, was brilliant, the pain Ranbir had and the need to make Alizeh jealous was done well, just like they started the film with saying how their respective partners are so hotđ, they visited that again but with a serious take and it was good.Definitely not a bad film, but the last 30/40 mins killed it. Sorry for the super long review. đł

Aishwarya...OMG that beautyâď¸..I was speechless...she played her part very subtlety and never went OTT...all those winks and smiles were naughty and yet classy...even her voice didn't sound screechy..good modulationđđźAnushka as expected was really really good and was actually looking gorgeous after a long time.Fawad was there for may be 10-15 mins...He is such an amazing actor and a good looker...its unfortunate that his role was cut short...but whatever time he was ..he left his print.Cameos: Alia , Imran, and Lisa were good..Shahrukhâ¤ď¸...he lights up the whole screen...he had just one scene...and it was powerful with some very good dialogues...The songs were good, the comic scenes were too good...locales were superb. The only thing was the ending was a bit messed up...KJo could have looked up for an alternate ending but what I liked is that he didn't make it very heavy...the movie maintained its comical front till the last scene...so when u come out u don't feel emotionally drained..The songs look awesome on big screen..I would give it 4 stars...would have given it 4.5 stars if the ending was a little different...Thinking of watching it one more time..

First time doing a review. I like all the actors in the movie to same extent and never been anyone's fan so my view is unbiased. Until interval there was absolutely nothing to complain apart from the bollywood dance on ice hills which I didn't think added much. Their friendship and Ayan's attachment to Alizeh very much conveyed to me.
Now after finishing the movie the only thing that left me dissatisfied is the last few minutes from where Alizeh meets ayan again with cancer this time. Is it only because KJo couldn't get a closure to the story or any other reason the cancer track, ayans rant about his love to Alizeh and very last scene with bollywood references were below par. With all these the last few minutes left a little bad taste but overall the movie is great. May be I watched it after reading each and every negative feedback and even the spoilers that's why I was not at all disappointed. I have seen all of Kjo movies apart from MNIK and I think this is one of his best work. Ranbir Anushka and Aishwarya liked all of them. Ayan Alizeh Saba all three stood on their own and never ever felt unrealistic like a typical KJo. I felt Kjo bought SRK for the sake of it and I felt nothing much about his role. And I think had they didn't cut some scenes the film would have been even more beautiful. Would give 3/5. I did cry every time Ayan cried he was so so endearing

Review (Hopefully without MAJOR spoilers, but read at your own risk) đOkay so, * takes a deep breath *. I know understand why the reviews are SO polarising. It's not a bad movie, but you can swing both ways by the end of it, love it or hate it. Let me start by saying, what a fantastic, fantastic performer Ranbir is. I feel like repeating the whole 'bloody good actor' sentence throughout my review, because God, he is such a subtlety king. If you're an RK fan beforehand. Go watch, if for nothing else, go for him. This is no Rockstar, it's not YJHD. In fact, I got vibes of neither. It's a whole new child-like avatar totally in tune with his feminine filmy side and emotional outbursts, which in fact, very appropriately, for those who know Karan, makes you think of him immediately. RK is so good, that before the rolling credits, I shed a tear not with him, but for him. Him and Anushka are the saving grace of this movie. Let me state it out loud and clear. This movie would have fallen so flat on its face had KJo have anyone else do these roles, especially that of Ayan. Because it is Ranbir Kapoor, you feel for him, you root for his selfish emotions and you get his nagging pain.
Coming to the movie - This will probably come as a surprise, but it looks like I'm the singular person who utterly disliked the first half. At least the first 25-30 minutes. I felt nothing, no connect, no smiles. The friendly vibe is cool and Ayan-Alizeh have this easy friendship. It's just I don't feel it. They share nothing in common except BW, which frankly, at times, feels forced. Though, if it is Karan that Ayan is emulating, I can see why. The whole Lisa-Imraan cameo was SO utterly unnecessary. It looks contrived. For me, the movie started when Ayan danced on Baby Doll. Thereafter, consider me sold.
I absolutely ADORED the second half. The WHOLE of it. Even with the infamous * forced * twist in the storyline. Actually, more so because of it. I didn't think it was a big deal. Maybe 'cause I understood Alizeh better than ever. The whole point of the movie was, it wasn't that she couldn't fall for Ayan that way. Perhaps she would have even, had Ali not been in her life. It was that she didn't want to. He was the singular safe entity in her life. Friendship is unbreakable, at least more than love is, and she needed him that way, and it wrenches your heart when she says that she loves him too much, so much more than a lover to allow him to become one. To get that sentence, you must be in Alizeh's shoes at least once in your life. I'm not saying you won't appreciate her character otherwise, but knowing what that sentence means, brings so much depth to her character. Anushka lives up to it and how. Two instances that stun you are when she realizes the depth of Ayan's love before her marriage, and towards the end of the movie when she shares a slow dance with him. Watch out for the expression play on her face. Brilliance!
Aishwariya as Saba was beautifully poetic. She made Ranbir grow, and I don't really think her storyline was pointless. Also, I don't understand why people find her bland. I don't. At least not in this movie. She brings meaning to sentences and there is a certain realism. Her acting is real. People in real life don't act like all these pathbreaking roles women have done in Hindi cinema. People in real life act like Saba. She's real, grounded and keeps Ayan on his toes. SRK as Tahir is wasted. His cameo is bearable, up until he says the famous "Ek Tarfa..." sentence. I didn't like it. And I didn't buy it even more because this is SRK we're talking about. Romance isn't so forced down our throats when he is on screen. This is the SRK that in KHNH when answered Saif's "Tum Meri Jaga Hote Toh Kya Karte..." gave one of the singular best heart wrenching dialogue deliveries of his career for me. This SRK feels like a rehashed version of MNIK's character. RK in the trailer said that same dialogue in a far, far better way.Alia is being cute as always. Unnecessary though. We get it KJo, she's your favorite. Fawad is gorgeous. Not only does he look gorgeous, he acts his part spot on too. He was my favorite extended cameo, by miles perhaps. Just too bad that the attention got deviated until the movie released and his role got chopped off. I felt as if this movie needed more of him. Fawad is one of the best from the new generation on screen, he makes you believe in him, however shaded the character is. One thing is sure, in all these tantrums and political affairs, BW just lost the one actor it would have been blessed to have. India is rightfully placed in its stance, but it just makes me sad that we won't get to see people who're not to be blamed and who deserve to be there instead of all these star kids who have zero acting skills.
Conclusion: I feel like strangling Karan Johar. This is a movie with SO much soul, and such bad, bad editing and general concept. He could have made a master piece if he cut the first 20 mins and improved the last 30 minutes of his movie, and removed the ode to Bollywood in between. Instead, it falls way below what it should have simply because of him. The movie is beautifully shot, and has immense love and soul, but is so badly made. He's getting better and better at direction, and worse at storytelling. This is the man that gave the world K3G, KHNH, KANK. I miss that Karan, and I want to see him again. He's lucky he had ace performers on his side and was clashing against a movie probably less well made than his. Consider this a lucky escape. If it was anyone else than RK doing his Ayan, it would have failed terribly to make a mark.If you love RK/Anu/Aish, watch it. If you think you've been in either of their shoes, watch it. If you've been through unrequited love watch it. Some scenes in the movie are totally worth it. I promise you'll shed a tear or two thinking about that person you lost, or somehow, never told you loved them anyway. I'll give it 2.5+0.5/5. The 0.5 merely for how RK makes me believe in, and for Ayan. For the first time, I'm thankful he's a star kid, at least it ensures good movies his way. I want to see more of him and I'm far, far, far from done yet.
