why this whitewashing of criminals..???

it is a known fact that dawood Ibrahim funded Bollywood in the 90s and by funded we mean provide money, collect the so called protection money, and then blackmail and extort money... tseries owner was shot dead when he refused

attempt was also made on rakesh roshan's life. even Salman was recorded threatening Ash taking dawood Ibrahim's name when she broke up with him...

Preity zinta turned witness in court when all the khans backed out and the case was almost lost and she was hailed as the real Man (human?) in Bollywood by Indian Media.

have they again started pouring money here, ????... is this the reason why ruthless criminals have films being made on them , where they are shown to be crusaders against the law...???

1st Article--http://www.indiatimes.com/entertainment/bollywood/srk-s-raees-is-heavily-inspired-from-the-real-story-of-gujrat-s-crime-lord-abdul-latif-251405.html

Here are 8 facts about Gujrat's most Ruthless Maafiya, who was shot dead in November 1997 by the police in Ahmedabad while trying to escape.

1. Abdul belonged to a humble middle-class background and his childhood was spent in waiting on the tables in gambling dens & later his teenage was spent in serving liquor.

2. He became a small-time bootlegger and later became popular for monopolising the illegal liquor business in Gujarat.

3. In 1985, he joined hands with Alamzeb, a member of Mumbai's 'Pathan Gang', to counter his rival, Pappu Khan. Taking Dawood Ibrahim's help, he killed Alamzeblater and this helped him establish himself as the kingpin of the Gujarat underworld.

4. Latif had more than 97 pending court cases against him. 10 of them involving murder and a number of them relating to bootlegging.

5. In 1986, Latif was elected from five municipal wards in Ahmedabad, even though he was in jail at the time of the polls.

6. He was a pro at liquidating rivals in the underworld. To establish a firm foot and stay on the top, he resorted to some of the cruelest ways possible. For example, the famous Radhika Gymkhana multiple murders of August 1992.

7. He was one of the prime suspects in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

8. Raees is not the first film which has drawn inspiration from Abdul Latif's real life. 14 years after the don was killed in an encounter, Director Sharique Minhaj announced a film called Encounter Latif in 2011. The film was released on 1st August, 2014.

Raees

After minor protests and attacks in Gujrat against the film, the film has landed into troubled waters once again. Just because the film has drawn inspiration from Abdul Latif's character and life, his son Mustak Ahmed Abdul Latif Shaikh has sent a legal notice to the team because he's not sure how his father would be portrayed on the big screen.

Sources claim that, nine crew members of the team that includes Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director Rahul Dholakia have landed in legal trouble because of this. The legal notice advises the team "from screening, promoting, releasing, publicising, advertising and exploiting the Hindi film titled Raees."

The notice also claimed that Latif was "a famous businessman with deep roots in society."

Latif also indulged in kidnapping, gambling, extorting money from builders and businessmen and accepted contracts for murders. His operations extended across Gujarat, Daman, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Extortion,Murders,Arms Smuggling, Involvement in 93 Blasts, Over 100 Murders. Latif was involved in the murder of former Rajya Sabha member Rauf Valiullah four years ago. In 1985 Latif Contested on 5 seats simultaneously in Ahmedabad and won every seat with record margin. He was in Jail at that time.

So making a movie on an underworld Don means whitewashing him? 😕

Then why no problem with these following movies???

Deewar - starring Amitabh Bachchan- based on the life of Bombay's first underworld don Haji Mastan Mirza

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai- based on lives of Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara- based on Dawood Ibrahim and his affair with BW actress

Most of these movies were hits or average and public didnt protest inspite of them being based on India's worst enemy Dawood who had planned 1993 attacks on Mumbai and got so many people killed, plus had extortion, blackmail cases against his gang.

These mafia movies are based on real life mafia dons, that doesnt mean they are glorifying them, they are just telling the story of how real life villains are made.

By that logic, so many HW Mafia movies like Godfather, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Departed, Scarface, etc these would be bashed/ trashed as glorifying real life Mafia dons of New York and NJ that they are based on.
Instead these movies are HW classics.

Its so immature to target one single movie for portraying a mafia don's life and death when dozens of such movies have been made in HW and BW before this, when people were more mature and unbiased to understand they were just presenting it as interesting stories to be told.

Personally, I am looking forward to Raees. I hope they have handled it well. I find these Godfather/Scarface kinda movies very interesting.

The trailer was very nice.
It will be good to see SRK in a strong negative role after all the candyfloss lover boy types.

Unless they show the guy as a undercover social worker i dont think there will be any whitewashing.
