I want the movie to be as realistic as possible and SRK as ruthless as the actual criminal was, I love SRK in closer to life roles over larger than life roles!
If it turns out good I will watch his movie in theatre after almost 9 years 😲

pallavi, aren't movies on criminals whitewashed?? be it hw and bw, criminals have been humanised
whitewashed, shown to have moral conflicts and regretting their actions and yet continued on killing
... maybe it is a personal thing but I really do not get why criminals have to be potrayed as
chief protagonists...

Then why no problem with these following movies???

Deewar - starring Amitabh Bachchan- based on the life of Bombay's first underworld don Haji Mastan Mirza

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai- based on lives of Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara- based on Dawood Ibrahim and his affair with BW actress

Most of these movies were hits or average and public didnt protest inspite of them being based on India's worst enemy Dawood who had planned 1993 attacks on Mumbai and got so many people killed, plus had extortion, blackmail cases against his gang.

yes you are absolutely right, and this is exactly what I am saying, films have been made in the past
about convictd criminals, at a time when there is proof that underworld gangsters have funded their films through black money. Just because it was never questioned in the past does not mean it will never be questioned in the future if someone finds something wrong with it. and I have problems with each of the those films that you have mentioned.they are equally guily of the same psychological manipulation

These mafia movies are based on real life mafia dons, that doesnt mean they are glorifying them, they are just telling the story of how real life villains are made. come on, films glorify characters, positive and negative, that is Bollywood.

By that logic, so many HW Mafia movies like Godfather, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Departed, Scarface, etc these would be bashed/ trashed as glorifying real life Mafia dons of New York and NJ that they are based on.
Instead these movies are HW classics.

they have had the same accusations and blame against them . However they are still considered master pieces due to their story telling, acting, direction, not because of the persons they played!

Its so immature to target one single movie for portraying a mafia don's life and death when dozens of such movies have been made in HW and BW before this, when people were more mature and unbiased to understand they were just presenting it as interesting stories to be told.

I am not targeting one single film, Raees is not even up for release, this topic concerned me thus I spoke about it, as you will see that in the beginning of my post I have talked about 90s Bollywood and the court cases and the news headlines that shocked the nation at that time. That is my concern, that what if now , when the country is battling terrorism, terrorist money is again being laundered through Bollywood, like it was in the 90s.
I respect your opinion nevertheless and have simply put forward my mid night musings !

by the way, Pallavi, shubho Panchami, Lovely Dp !😊

Hello!

Maybe it was my fault as I wrote the post in a bit of hurry, but I did not mean that the film has glorified the criminal. What I wanted to say was the film is whitewashing his criminal acts, and this bit is not a figment of my imagination but rather the plot summary that is available in mainstream media that He will play a negative character but with a sense of responsibility towards society. but for me who can be
accused of being a party to the Mumbai blasts and have 100+ cases against him, have a sense of responsibility to unfortunates is whitewashing. specially when he was a known associate of Dawood Ibrahim, and dawood Ibrahim is known to launder his black money through films.

yes @yamyam srk is playing the role of a criminal, but I said that this film might whitewash over the real person's deeds as t he plot summary that is available in mainstream media that He will play a negative character but with a sense of responsibility towards society. but for me who can be

If I am not wrong, the makers have already denied that the movie is based on the guy

It's a movie! It's a piece of art! If one doesn't care for it they are free to reject it but this notion that no movies can be made on characters that are criminals or dark or grey in shades is amusing on pretty much every level! Movies a lot of the times reflect what's happening in the society! One should be more concerned with reality as opposed to fiction. Crime exists! Criminals exist! And showing that in a movie doesn't mean the intend is to glorify that. The movie ain't even out yet we have decided it's going to glorify crime! Watch it first and see if it does. And if it indeed does then like I said one is free to reject it. But this notion that creative people should stay away from making movies on these lines is preposterous.

yes @yamyam but that is because his son filed a case against the makers saying that his father was "just a businessman with deep roots to society", but in the same interview he has himself said that when they approached him to research about his father's life and he gave them details and all, he was unaware that his father will be show in a poor light. so this statement proves that his life will be potrayed on screen, albeit with a disclaimer like M.S.DHONI:An untold story, claiming it to have no relation to any real person, and what ever appears to be related will be purely incidental and a coincidence, like ALL films which are based on characters in real life

Raees is one of my most awaited movies and so did not read the contents as I do not want to lose the suspense,
But going by title I do not think they will glorify anybody.
OUATIM where Ajay was shown good but Dawood was shown as bad and there was nothing positive about his character.
I am sure the same even Abdul Latif won't be shown as good.
