Let's take a look at the last few All time Highest grossers in recent years;

PK - Christmas

Dhoom3 - Christmas

Chennai Express - Eid

3 idiots - Christmas

Ghajini - 3 idiots

Rab ne banadi Jodi - Diwali

Dhoom 2 - no idea?

Let's take a look at the highest grosser of the year in recent times;

2015 - Bajrangi Bhaijaan - Eid

2014 - PK - Christmas

2013 - Dhoom 3 - Christmas

2012 - Ek Tha Tiger - Eid

2011 - Bodyguard - Eid

2010 - Dabangg - Eid

2009 - 3 idiots - Christmas

2008 - Ghajini - Christmas

2007 - Om Shanti Om - Diwali

2006 - Dhoom 2 - no idea?

With everyone going for Holiday releases, it's got me thinking, can a film release on a non-Eid/Diwali/Christmas period and go on to become the highest grosser of the year? Let alone The all time highest grossing film in history?

The last film that didn't release on the big 3 that went close to becoming both the highest grosser of the year and the all time highest grosser was Yeh Jawani hai Dewani in 2012, nearly beating Ek Tha Tiger/3 Idiots

I'm going to go with no, on a Holiday the film benefits around 100cr alone in the first week (maybe even 150) see HNY and PRDP.

Its odd. So my theory is during the festive seasons, movies should gross the lowest. Typically, Christmas, Diwali-- don't people like spending it with their family? I mean why would I leave my family to go watch a movie in the theatre?

How does this work? Someone care to explain

Spending time like having dinner with the entire family, then going to the movies.

My family does that sometimes, so do my friends.

I cant speak for others but on Eid, we tend to go out for a meal as a family and then go watch a movie
