I think it is the prevalent mentality .
Even those so called modern girls and guys, who wear shorts and dresses on their own, with friends, will tend to impress or the guy will force the girl to impress their parents wearing those all covered dresses
While there is nothing wrong in wearing saree and salwar , the whole idea of suppressing who you are I find stifling.
Because people tend to expect wrong thing.
Nowadays , everyone have become realistic enough to understand those who work, go out with friends, travel alone will have a mind of their own and might wear something they feel comfortable in.
Any relationship which starts by hiding or trying to change someone's nature does not work out really.
There is only so much you can suppress while resenting your partner for making you do so.
That maybe the reason divorce rates have gone up so high in India.
