Well, BW certainly has a penchant for fair skin and they even lighten the few actresses who are not 'gori chitti'.

I don't think there is a problem with having songs about light skin. I think the problem is that there are few songs lauding dark skin or showing dark skin as desirable.

I think the audience is more to blame than the industry for this. I don't think the industry has an inherent bias against dark skin, but rather that they are not ready to challenge societal norms and want to profit off of existing beauty standards.

When was the last time we saw someone who looked like this on screen?

Ain't a big deal and it's not racist. Just like in the West they prefer a slightly tanned/olive complexion too. Since darker skin tones in India are more common the lighter ones are considered more desirable.

It happens alot in real life too. There are some areas where i dont cover my self properly but there are some areas where i have to (because of bachelor environment) . Surprisingly , men cant even see my face or my body in those area's but they would be going gaga that wow you have fair skin , such fair hands , . 😔 It pisses me of SO MUCH. During vacations i turned a bit tan and during exams ..my tan faded away and my relatives said ' Aray Wah! Tum to wapas se gori hogai ho ! Khush hojao! ' DAFUQ DUDE. My sister is a lot more whiter then me , and people actually say " Bari Bhen bhi gori hai par choti zada gori hai isliye mujhe to choti zada pasand hai ,keeping in mind that my sister is just 13 years old and our faces are completely same, every night i explain it to her that dont ever judge anyone on basis of skin color, i hate it that in such a small age she is being exposed to such stupid comments just because she is white. I am actually afraid that all these stupid comments will actually get into her head ..and wo guroor karey.

what I think is Bollywood often shows its industry beliefs and practices through its films and most often than not, a bling copy of everything Washington Dc or London...

escapism is what we search through movies and entertainment right? that is what u r telling. we wanna see aspiration stuff and it further corroborates with what i said.. fairer skin is an aspiration for specifically South Asians (rightly or wrongly).. and thus the so called dream girls aka the BW starlets r majority belonging to the same type..
there r few dusky girls compared to the light skin toned, light eyed ones..

West at least now is not as obsessive about fair skin in the entertainment industry as much as Asians are!! BW makes movies primarily for an Asian market and this is what sells here...

I am not telling it's right or wrong. Just stating a fact..
