Have you guys seen the Baar Baar Dekho Film Companion episode where Anupama Chopra interviewed Sid & Katrina? Not sure if this has already been discussed in the forum.
So Anupama asks something like how did he feel when all the attention of the kala chasma song went to Katrina Kaif... was there a moment of insecurity?

Sid said that he's seen Katrina's videos and knows she's very good and he was only concentrating on himself and his performance. BUT THEN he goes onto adds something like -

"I have not reached that level of insecurity that I will compete with an actress"

Of course Anupama catches him & he goes on to explain that everyone has their own space and you can't compare male & female energy..

He says "I can't compete with female energy because I am not here to give that, the latkas and jhatkaas"...

So I sort of understand what he meant but I don't agree with him. Do actors find it degrading to sort of be compared to an actress? And talent no knows gender!

As a larger topic of discussion... In general men and Women have never competed against each other for even acting awards. There's no unisex actors awards, performances are always gendered. Why? Because if it was unisex no actress would ever win an award?

Sid should seriously stick to talking abt the film.
He cant compete with actors of his generation first of all.

And yes competing with actress is nt a bad thing. That was a wrong thing to say. He implies tht actresses r there as show pieces.

Very interesting topic.

I have to watch the interview to gauge the tone of what was being said, but I agree that Sid makes it sound like actresses are beneath actors and there is simply no competition between them. The 'latkas and jhatkas' comment seems like a taunt.

You raised a very relevant point that till date, male and female actors do not compete against each other when it comes to performances, simply because most roles in BW or HW for that matter portray entrenched gender roles.

The man is the 'hero' of the film and the woman is usually there as eye candy or to raise his status. When more films are made that treat both as humans first and portray them as individuals, then we might have a barometer of comparison that pits female and male actors against each other.

ironically he sounds insecure despite claiming he is not... deep down he is well aware that he is just a side piece in baar baar dekho... katrina has stolen the show in every song... the movie is going to open well because of katrina... if he were secure enough he would not pass such silly remarks and he would be content with his role... instead he is reducing her key role to latkas and jhatkas...

Ya, I really like him too from the current crop of actors and it could be we're reading too much into his remark. But can't deny that what he said was quite sexist... Why does one need to be insecure to compete, whether with a male or a female? Why can't there be healthy competition? And his second comment - I'm not here to give latkas jhatkas... my point is do actors still think that about actresses? I think varun dhawan gives amazing latkas & jhatkas - does that make him any less of an 'actor'? I don't get it.

I did watch this IV in the morning and knew Sid is going to get into trouble for saying whatever he did!😆
At first, it did sound ridiculous to me. I was like W*F are you saying Sid. But he made up for it by saying a hero and heroine bring their own thing into a film so there shouldn't be any comparisons. N Kat very well supported him!😆 But honestly, he did sound a bit sexist ki hero toh hero hai. Dint expect him to have such a mindset but then its BW, sab ek hi khet ke mooli hai!

In BBD, Kat is hero and the movie business will reflect Kat's star power. Sid is replaceable. Hope he understands that he is riding on Kat's back for the success of this movie

Actually, I just started watching this IV and there is a point where Anupama asks Kat if this is the first time she has done acting workshops for a film and Kat says yes. Then Sid asks her twice, "You mean you've never done this before?/You haven't sat down with an actor and done this?" and it didn't sound nice. I don't know what his intention was and I agree that Kat is not really an 'actor', so to speak, but he shouldn't have let it on.
