@Poppinss, an absolutely on point post and beautifully written

Have lost all the inclination to analyse this ever since the culmination of this track and the manner it has been developed. Tell myself is reel, a show after all. But at the same what they have portrayed this week in the form of Shravans actions & words and Adityas behaviour & words & thoughts is not something one would have expected from a show of EDKVs calibre.

Everyones set out their views so perfectly.

Just would like to add a thought i have on Shravan, how is he ever going to be able to redeem himself after all the avalanche and a near catastrophe of his own making his words spoken without thought and with an intent to avenge Nirmala and Aditya have caused. Add this to all what he has said to Suman or his behaviour with her since ramanths machinations began, you have a glacier sized redemption he has to overcome.

Nonetheless it is still a show and the CVS will have their convenient and perhaps unbelievable ways of showing forgiveness and the rest of it.

A possible marriage track maybe in the shadow of a burden of guilt shravan will bear after today realising the consequences (and even more disastrous, though timely averted consequence) his thoughtlessly uttered words have resulted in.

But an unintentional murder/accident causing death is still a murder under law and is termed manslaughter. And so the perpetrator gets a reduced sentence but he is still punished for the crime.

So, if a person does something without intending to and the outcome of an act, moral or criminal, is bad, does the responsibility, or some of it, not lie with that person? If a child in school is mercilessly ragged and he commits suicide, aren't the students who ragged the child responsible, though it was not their intention to drive this child to suicide? There was a case in the US where an Indian American ragged a homosexual roommate on social media. He, cruelly with malicious intent because he was homophobic, even tried to video tape this boy and revealed his homosexuality on social media, made fun of him etc. Though his intent was to cause the boy emotional hurt, and in his immaturity and narrow-mindedness I don't think he thought beyond his dislike of homosexuals, he did not intend to drive his roommate to take this extreme step. But yet, he is responsible, is he not? Though the intention is not there, his viciousness led to his roommates death. Perhaps I am not comparing apples with apples here, but my question is how important is intent - a crime is a crime anyway you look at it.

Again, just playing devil's advocate and in no way am I endorsing sexual abuse or finding excuses for such preposterous, deplorable and pervasive behaviour. I see these as two independent issues - Aditya committed a crime; Shravan committed a crime. What Aditya did rests on his shoulders. What Shravan did also rests upon his shoulders and is no less. The issue I am debating here is intent - and its role in a crime. Many thanks

THANK YOU to everyone who appreciates my posts:)))))

@Beagle: COMPLETELY AGREE with you here...
Intent does play a role, but an unintended crime is still a crime. Not referring to the show in particular, but when you hurt someone - intentionally or unintentionally - you should have to answer for your actions. I believe one MUST take responsibility for their actions. Which is what I've been hollering about all through this Shravan-Adi debate. You will find absolutely no sympathy for Shravan in my heart for what he did. And as much as people talk of his redemption, I don't think he can ever do anything that can make this hurt go away. What's done is done, no matter how much he grovels, he cannot undo the harm (intended or unintended) he has done.
But I won't/cant let Aditya (and people like him) use what Shravan said as a smokescreen for their actions. I think in societies the world over, people have been using excuses like these (she made me do this, she shouldn't have worn such clothes, he made me drink so I would lose control, and the list goes on), and I'm done with these fig leaves.

Bottomline for me: Aditya had a choice, and he chose to walk an unacceptable route.

The impact of sexual assault (attempted assaults included) is far-reaching and devastating. Some years back, as a rape crisis advocate, I knew someone who had been a survivor of attempted sexual assault by her then boyfriend at a Halloween party. With all the alcohol that was involved, the judge let the guy off very very easy. And everyone around her kept telling her to move on, since "nothing had really happened" 😡. Every Halloween since, that woman used to park her car in front of his house, and wait with a gun. Thankfully, she never got around to using it, and instead sought help at the local rape crisis center, where we could connect her to resources.

As a society, don't we have the responsibility to shatter all the pretexts that criminals like Aditya try to use? We cry foul when a rapist goes free, but forget that the judges and lawyers come from the same society that we belong to, the same society where people still want to find out what led to the rape or assault before they decide where to fix the blame.

Once again back to the show, yes Shravan is wrong. But I cannot allow Aditya to use that ruse to get past the consequence of his actions.

Uuufff, that was long by my standards! 😆 Don't know how you guys (@Poppinss, Beagle, and the rest) manage to write such long posts and carry a thought coherently through it)! Kudos...
