Sarkar Signs Bachchan, Dhawan

(August 13, 2016)

Pradeep Sarkar, whose last release was Mardaani, has finished writing his next script. The director, who was also busy with ad films, has given the final touches to his next film, reportedly starring Amitabh Bachchan and likely Varun Dhawan as the lead. We all know the film is calledDabba Gul and we hear that shooting starts early next year.

A source close to the film reveals, "Initially, Dada was writing a script on the lines of Mardaanibut it was not shaping up well. That's when the idea of Dabba Gul struck him. He narrated the story to Aditya Chopra, who loved it, after which he narrated the script to Amitabh Bachchan, who gave his nod. Talks are also on with Varun Dhawan, with whom he is working on dates."

We spoke to Sarkar, who is currently in Georgia shooting for a T-Series' single, which features Ayushmann Khurrana and Amy Jackson. He said, "I can't confirm anything as I am busy shooting my single here in Georgia. I can reveal everything only after everything is signed." Watch this space!

Not Thug' Any More

(August 13, 2016)

There were rumours that Amitabh Bachchan wouldn't be a part of Vijay Krishna Acharya's next film but that was just idle talk. A source close to Yash Raj Films tells us that he will definitely be part of this project. And guess what? Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan will be coming together on the big screen for the first time!

Well, the script hasn't changed; the only difference is that, earlier, Hrithik Roshan was to lead the cast but now Aamir Khan will. Also, the title of the film will change. The film was to start rolling by the end of this year but that's been postponed. Khan is a perfectionist and has asked for some changes in the script.

PS: Years ago, Indra Kumar had announced a film titled Rishta featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit. A huge mahurat of the film was also held in Mumbai but the film
was shelved.

(August 13, 2016)

Box Office India was the first to tell you that Sooraj Pancholi had signed his third film, which will be directed by debutant Pierre Timmins and produced by Excel Entertainment. The film requires Pancholi to play a football player and the actor has started prepping. By the way, Timmins' film is not a biopic.

Titled Fire Ball, the makers are looking for a new girl to be cast opposite Pancholi.

(August 13, 2016)

Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma is multi-talented and made his debut as a solo lead in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. We now hear that the actor is ready to take the next step and, no, he is not turning director.

The actor is all set to start his next film, titled Period, and it will feature new actresses. The film will be produced by his banner K9 Production and starts rolling early next year. Watch this space for more!

Kaif To Romance Fawad Khan

(August 13, 2016)

Katrina Kaif will soon get busy promoting Baar Baar Dekho while also finishing shooting Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos. Why, the actress has also signed her next film opposite Fawad Khan, a film that will be produced by Dharma Productions. The film will see Aditya Dhar making his debut as director. Earlier, Dhar had assisted Vishal Bhardwaj and Priyadarshan.

A source close to the director says, "The film starts rolling in November and will be shot in various parts of India and a few schedules will take place abroad. It's a love story with a twist. The film will be wrapped in 60 days and will probably hit cinemas in the middle of next year."

Praise For Pink

(August 13, 2016)

It's been just four days but social media is buzzing with comments on Amitabh Bachchan's next film Pink. Producer Shoojit Sircar says he hasn't stopped taking calls and messages since Tuesday, when the trailer went online. "I have always received an overwhelming response but the Pink trailer is giving me respect. The best responses are coming from girls, according who say they can relate to the film. It gives me a high when reel meets real, and that's what the trailer is being praised for."

Sircar says the film is inspired by real incidents and that's why it has clicked so perfectly. "In fact, I used to feel emotionally drained at the end of every day, after I used to return from the sets. So far, we have received 5 million hits on YouTube, which is huge," he shares.

The film also features Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and Angad Bedi, and is set to release on September 16.

September - Acid Test

(August 13, 2016)

Just like every other month, September too will host a vast variety of releases of different genres. But one thing's different about the ninth month of 2016 - it's Redemption Month. The clutch of releases next month will give the tepid careers of many actresses a chance to hot up after they slipped away from the spotlight.

First off the blocks is Sonakshi Sinha. Sinha was dubbed Golden Girl' after debuting alongside Salman Khan back in 2010 but she hasn't seen any success in the last two years. Now with Akira releasing on September 2, box-office numbers will tell us whether or not Sinha will break her jinx.

Katrina Kaif was in the same boat as Sinha, with her last three releases - Bang Bang!, Phantom and Fitoor - but she will get a chance to redeem herself on September 9, with Baar Baar Dekho.

September 9 will also see the release of Amy Jackson's Freaky Ali. Jackson, who made her debut in Ekk Deewana Tha, which bombed at the box office, was expected to bounce back with the much-anticipated film I (dub), which too didn't work. Even her last Hindi release, Singh Is Bliing, tanked. Let's see if she gets lucky with Freaky Ali.

Come September 16 and Taapsee Pannu's Pink releases. The actress made her debut in David Dhawan's Chashme Baddoor, after which she was seen in Baby but her career hasn't really taken off. Pannu, who has a successful career down South, is yet to experience success in Hindi films. Hence Pink will decide her fate. Well, September 16 will also see Kriti Kharbanda making her debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in Raaz Reeboot.

Nargis Fakhri made her big debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar but nothing really exciting has happened to her career since. And after a string of cameos in films and having featured in multi-starrers, she is yet to have a solo film that can be considered a hit. She gets that chance on September 23, when Banjo releases.

Finally, on September 30, M.S.Dhoni: The Untold Story releases, and will see Kiara Advani romancing Sushant Singh Rajput. The actress made her debut in Fugly and kind of faded away after that. Disha Patani, who is making waves for personal not professional reasons, will make her debut in M.S.Dhoni: The Untold Story.

Will the month of September change the fate of these actresses? Let's wait and watch.

Guess Who?

(August 13, 2016)

Now we all know that film production is a tough and complex job and perhaps the most difficult aspect of this critical business is knowing when to rein in the creative demands of the directorial team and when to give in... for the betterment of the film.

This producer, who is one half of a producer-duo and looks after the execution of their many projects, is acquiring something of a reputation as someone who takes cost-cutting a bit too far. Case in point, a recent release from this production house that toplined a huge star.

Confident that the star's presence had made the project saleable, the producer abandoned what the trade calls padding' the product. So when it came to the supporting cast, or props, or sets, the mantra seemed to be to minimise costs rather than ensuring that they were of a certain quality that did justice to a film featuring a star of such stature.

Obviously, the net result of all this cutting corners has impacted the final product, and if the grapevine is to be believed, the big star is not too pleased. Well, as the cliche in the industry goes, films don't fail, budgets do. But budgeting, it must be remembered, is the art of getting the best result in the most efficient way, not the cheapest way!
