He has that bad boy with golden heart image. IF is filled with people who know much about BW gossip, so the hate/dislike/disgust toward Salman is high and it seems like he is not supported much. But in real world, people don't give much empashis to what a star is doing in his real life.
People watch the movie to enjoy and escape the cruel reality. And Salman is someone who knows to make simple things look like something special, whether his silly towel dance or any of those goggles in the back etc etc. His movies have many "taalis, whistles and screaming whoa" moments. He capitalizes on those moments which makes him popular among masses.
Social media fans are different, 80% social media fans watch movies online/download from internet. So it seems ironic, despite the criticism Khans receive in social media, why they still carry such mass hysteria.
