Sony's new daily soap for the 9 pm prime slot, Kuchh Is Tara, may herald a massive change in Indian soap factories. While many serials have tried to experiment with new stories in the past, almost all of them petered out into melodramatic kitchen showdowns or soppy sibling rivalries.

Or have lacked that critical emotional hook to sustain interest levels with the younger audiences, with the probable exception of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, which was a remake of Ugly Betty. Kuchh Is Tara is essentially about romance between a middle-class Mumbai girl Kanya and the Dilli ka loaded munda, Ayan.

The producers have hit upon a cool idea with a cotemporary young India setting, and the treatment so far has been just right: lots of energy, zip, irreverence and fun. Loved the first episode which took a dig at saas-bahu shows (producer Balaji's own turf) and at the sister shows that are ruling the roost right now.

Also, the always-welcome Delhi/Mumbai culture clashes should be an enjoyable watch. What the producers need to keep a sharp eye on is this: hitting on a good idea is just the beginning as far as daily soaps go.

The difficult part is to remain faithful, day after day, week after week, to the main plot and not deviate into side stories, which is always tempting. For example, things like rich kid Ayan's folks ridiculing Kanya's simple-living parents must be avoided at all costs, even if that seems like a natural extension as the story evolves. Ekta Kapoor can learn a few lessons from her own mistakes on her Kayamath on Star Plus, which started out with great promise and has quickly degenerated into a silly step sisters rivalry.

If Kuchh Is Tara can pull it off, and there's no reason it shouldn't, it will set a new standard in television programming in India. And help Balaji Telefilms find a brand new genre of soaps.

hey! this drama is indeed good! till now.Hope it countinues this way😳
