He played Messi in the wings for the balance of the team...it was a familiar role for him as he had played there for Barca...

as far as Pele is concerned,Messi is an Arg and a Brazilian won't praise an Arg 😆...don't belittle Pele's achievements...those days there were career threatening tackles and there were good teams the Dutch,Germans...

agree many times they r harsh on Messi...

<div>@Love_Katty:ya that's true 😆...Pelle brings 3 WC and Maradona says that Pele never played in Europe and never singlehandedly helped a small team win the toughest league like he did with Napoli...

Just a little corrections during the time of Pele, Germany or Dutch were not the force they would become, as Germany's 54 win was always seen aa a fluke. It was post his retirement they become a force. Although agree about the difficulties of Pele. And ofcourse his legacy is awesome, dude played in an era of Garrincha, Eusebio, Beckenbauer, Bobby Charlton, Gorgie Best and world had already seen De Stefano and Puskas and he was still considered the greatest ever.

I love Pele vs Maradona, they are comedy gold, it is like Rishi Kapoor vs KRK on steroid 😆

I am talking abt the Germans and Dutch of the 70's...guess Hungary/Czchecoslovakia/Uruguay were a formidable side in the 50's...

In 2010WC there was huge criticism for Maradonna that he had Messi and he didn't make messi play as a striker, yes messi was young and inexperienced but that's how you bring changes, he was the best in the team and Maradonna wanted to balance the team by putting the best man as a winger ? Which coach would do that? The team was not as bad as it's made out to be, the management and coaching was bad, the same messi was breaking records in under20 WC and In laliga whereas he wasn't utilized. But as it validates that WC is a team work, everyone was at fault including Maradonna which he himself forgets when he puts the blame solely on Messi after 2014WC loss, dude they played the finals and he won the golden ball and this guy was busy spreading hate and negativity instead of appreciating the young guns and futur if his national team.

Yeah Maradonna praised messi then, he had to, he was the coach. but the recent criticism has put a bad taste about him, as I said if fans and media compares messi with Maradonna only bevUse just like Maradonna even rest of the argentines dream for that WC victory which was so close just because of Messi .. However Ever since record charts had started being flooded with Messi's name the insecurity has become visible. The same Maradonna just before the final match told messi that if you don't win then don't come back and now the same Maradonna is pleading for him to come back. I don't know what to like or dislike, all I know is messi himself never calls himself the GOAT, it's fans and media and he can't stop that and both Pele and Diego Maradonna needs to understand that.

If legends keep harping and crying about them being greatest then what's the god damn use ? Let fans speak, argue, fight and kill each other and decide , after all that's what matters at the end.

I never deny Pele and Maradonna's legacy, they are football gods and they define the football which messi carries now but as I said I grew up watching Lionel Messi doing some magic with his left foot, he's always special, and he's the only one who's compared to PeleDonna, makes me glad.

Argentine NT is very disorganized and even though they have good players , none if them are experienced enough to play without depending on Messi. I mean Di Maria always stays injured, Higuan is a curse , Aguero and Mashchereno doesn't know what to do, everything comes back to square one and Messi is either blamed it crucified, but never appreciated for leading the team to three back to back finals.

just an overrated league player 😆

Germana and Dutch were definitely the best teams of 1970s but were not direct Pele's competition. Tbh Brazil during that era was ridiculously talented, I mean that team was stacked they had five players(Pele, Didi, Garrincha, Nilton Santos and Djalma Santos) who arguably are the greatest of all time in thier specific positions. In 1966 they lost to thier own internal problem than opponents being stronger.
Portugal tried to murder Pele😆

Pele vs Maradona is fun. We talk about SRk vs Salman fans, Messi vs CR7 fans, Sachin vs Lara fans, nothing comes close to Pele vs Maradona debates 😆

Maradona had called Messi his heir right form 2006...someone who is going to succeed him and bring the WC back to Arg...
Arg team was loaded with world class stikers in 2010...to play Messi at his best position which would mean to play either Aguerro or Tevez out of position?for the balance of the team they had to play him in the wings...they have many players playing at the same position...

at Barca things r diff...he had Xavi and Iniesta two of the best central mid of that time who would win the ball and create chances for him but in Arg team they didn't have that sort of midfielders...their central mid is not that good...

@bold: agree...Ronaldo Brazilian one could have come close to that had he not suffered some worst injuries...

It was great of maradonna to see the future of his legacy in a 19 year old Messi, i mean how many players are blessed with such astounding trust and responsibility ? And i know how Maradonna must have messed up but ofcourse he would never want Argentina to lose. In 2010WC, not in all the matches, but i just feel for once he could have exchanged Messi and Aguero's positions when the team was not performing well.

at Barceona also, Messi scoring with suarez and neymar, the same way he did with Xavi and iniesta, and even with Villa and Ronaldinho, even now Messi is playing in the deep and still scoring just because the players coordinate well, whereas in Argentina even though good players are present, they all look up to Messi for some magic when they cannot pass the ball for once, and it happened 4 times now.

My main argument was that Maradonna criticizing Messi for the loss but not understanding how tough it is to go to the finals and lose , its not easy for the team, and then Messi takes the blame all the time, and he is crucified for something which even he is dreaming for since 11 years. Argentina wining the WC was everybody's dream and they could not, but ohh well Messi won the golden ball and boom Maradonna starts his with his verbal bullets.

Brazil vs ARG fans are more entertaining. i swear they can kill each other for some god damn reasons. Messi is unique, he is liked by most fans except Real Madrid 😆

@bold- I love you for this line, Ronaldo at his peak was just superb, he used to play without any inhibition. His timing with the ball was so frigging fabulous.

@Love_Katty

Zidane as i said is unmatchable, his energy and his aggression used to scare players, the french team with Thiery henry and even with Zidane was gold, i also like the current one, Griezman is another talent, he is fierce 😳

Ohh i love Romario, forgot to mention him, even Casillas is such a beauty on field.

Pele vs Maradonna vs Messi debates are still so interesting, but Messi vs CR7 is pure FCB vs RM which has no head or tale, the other day in facebook a CR7 fan refuted me by saying " Messi is a scary cat, midget and Ronaldo is fearless "😕 , for once i was like okay so its about who is braver and taller, LMAO.. CR7 is a great player too, but as i said it is only Lionel Messi who is compared to PeleDonna, so rest does not matter. I do not even brag about Messi's Ballon d'ors as even without these trophies he would be what he is, the magical Messi as Ray hudson says 😳
