I think there are certain issues, close to people's hearts, where people tend to overreact.

For example - The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was due yo a rumor of usage of cow and pig fat in cartridges... the people who spread that rumor knew it very well that people will overreact because this issue is close to their hearts...

similarly, the Kanhaiya controversy... people overreact because most people DO love their nation.

and Tanmay must also be aware of the impact his video could have on the audience..still he went ahead with it.

The problem is some mischief mongers, like Tanmay and Kanhaiya, take unfair advantage of freedom of expression by exploiting people's emotion for their own rotten publicity!

My point is can we simply allow some people to abuse FOE for their own cheap publicity OR there has to be a limit where FOE should cease to exist?

Can we allow speeches in favor of rapes, pedophilia, religious intolerance in the favor of FOE?

Can you get away with a 'funny' video about wishing bomb threat in America in the name of FOE?

If not then why can't we set some boundaries where FOE is not misused by some mischievous elements for their own selfish benefits?

FOE ITS LIKE A TOY FOR SOME PEOPLE NOWDAYS 😡

Sometimes I wonder, how come citizens in western democracies who are enjoying FoE much before Indians, do not come out with such antics? As citizens, are Indians matured enough to take burden (responsibility) that comes with FoE?
Also our (Eastern) sensibilities are different. A guy from US does not see anything wrong if national flag is printed on his boxers or flip flops. If such a thing happens in India, all hell breaks loose. In our (Eastern) culture, we don't stop at just liking something. We end up worshipping. Stones, trees, books, humans. Obviously we feel touchy, when someone insults what we worship.

Either we have to change our culture to suit western sensibilities. If not, FoE needs to be tweaked to incorporate cultural sensitivity.

I don't there is need to change culture ...every country have its own culture ...but in other countries people not always seem to criticise thier culture n country as in India people do ...most often

Yes, they do. Everyone feels the need to put in their 2 cents, result is useless topics of discussion in the news for days and silly hashtags trending. Even people who were oblivious to some xyz's attention seeking efforts become aware of it. Some of them have caught on to this, ex: Kohli when asked about Salman as Olympics ambassador. Folks like him realize that the media will bait anyone of any recognition level to give some bytes but that their opinion on any random issue isn't really required or needed. On the other hand, there's the fresh example of Sonam, who without any visible ill-intention, tweeted about Tanmay. Can she in a free world? Yeah, of course. She didn't need to, but nor did her opinion make much of a difference to anything so it's like wasting your breath and adding to the circlejerk.

That's the thing about freedom of speech, which is being debated and dissected from every angle. Just because you can say something doesn't mean you have to say it. Exercising your brain or discretion never goes amiss. Lots of celebs or even random internet people who jump into things they have no knowledge about (Salman's court case and the kind of tweets some celebs were making coming to mind 😆) only end up making fools out of themselves and creating more of a mess.
