Loved how you have gone into the alleys of Shravan's mind...a little confusing, as it is for Suman and the viewers who see it from her perspective...

What goes on in his mind? Does he himself know? 😉

Thank you Chick, especially since it is coming from you who is an amazing writer herself. Interesting that you pointed out the possibility of Shravan not knowing what he's doing.. maybe we are thinking too much & he's just going with the flow rather than with a conscious thought of freeing her.. maybe that's why the CVs haven't given us much Shravan monologues? I wonder why the CVs have constantly kept Shravan's thought process a mystery, right from when he came back for her, or after his visit to Sumo's old house, & even Pushkar's advice to him to listen to his heart..

what say... more like once bitten twice shy
something on these grounds ... do comment your views...

Definitely I think no one can disagree with you.. ShraMan have indeed matured with time & the biggest proof of that is how they've moved on & forgiven each other for the happenings of the past without apologizing or getting even.
Once bitten twice shy is definitely the right phrase for Shravan. He got so worked up in Friday's episode when Suman questioned their friendship. He's still the geek with low self-esteem from the past..

Couldn't have said it any better !
I don't know if it was just me, but when he said that they are 'Just Friends', the disappointment in Sumo's face was quite apparent ! It was quite evident when she had that smile on her face when she was handed the photos Khosla clicked !

This is just phase one, when you like someone either you sum up the courage and go tell them, or you drop subtle hints ! or obvious ones ! 😆

Shravan is still in denial, YES he is still in denial. hence the 'We are just friends' business.

I love the pace, nothing is rushed and I hope they maintain this pace ! I can't wait for phase two, which is obviously, the realization ! 😆

Uhhh! Yeah ! just my POV :)

Hey Sammy.. U have summed it up very well :)
I dont feel he is playing mind games or anything.. And he still loves her it's just that he has already gone thru rejection that's y he is scared of getting hurt once again.
It's just so beautiful that without apologizing to each other they have again become friends.. it's just superb :)
And there is a saying : '' If u love someone, let them free if ur love is true then it will come back to u".
Shravan has done the same thing.
This track seems interesting... 😊

1. Why did he 'friendzone' her? Does he not love her anymore?

Agree, with your point here. However, its all much ado about nothing really, in my point of view. They were nothing more than best friends when they parted. And it is very natural for Shravan to want to share that closeness and intimacy (mental and not physical) with his friend again. What he possibly missed the most is his friend Sumo and not the girl who kindled romance in his heart. For him to have asked anything else of her would have been a glitch in the storytelling and out of character for Shravan.

However, I find it odd that Suman suddenly finds his physical closeness ...well...stimulating (for lack of a better phrase!). Ok. So she finds him physically attractive. I can deal with that. But when did she suddenly start to get attracted to him, or in her words start to 'like him' romantically. For her to expect anything more than friendship from him is not justified. Because, both Shravan and Suman were on the same page when they parted. If anything it was Shravan, who had an added dimension to his feelings and expectations from Suman. I find it meddlesome that Preetha plants ideas in Suman's head. Because, I am unclear if thats the only reason why Suman begins to think of a romantic angle. She has never really indicated anything more than a friendly sort of love, possessiveness and attachment for Shravan.

Shravan's motives and characterisation are clear and consistent where as Suman is a bit more murky and needs to be developed better.

Qn 2 : Why is he flirting with her then?

To be honest, in my opinion, it has nothing to do with either character. It is a way for the storytellers to build a sort of dramatic climax to end the track. Quite a large proportion of the audience for this show is young and wants romance and the creatives are trying to cater to everyone. I doubt it has anything to do with the characterisation of either Suman or Shravan and neither does it have anything to do with the story.

Where Urvashi was concerned, Shravan clearly wanted to use her to his advantage and so his flirtation was very clearly premeditated. I do not think he is predisposed to flirting with women. He is shown as being manipulative with them to achieve what he sets out to do. But, Sumo is completely different. Because she is his bumchum first and a woman second. The comradeship he shares with her will not allow him to flirt unless it is clearly established to both of them that they share anything more than a platonic friendship.

Qn3: Did Shravan not notice Suman's behaviour?

No, I don't think he made anything of it. I don't think he came with romantic intentions so I do not think he linked her reactions to anything romantic. He came there as a friend, to seek friendship and his mind was shut to other possibilities. Suman to me looked more unsure and confused than romantic. I don't think she knew what to feel.

In conclusion, I would say Sumans character, for me, is a bit messed up. When did she start having romantic feelings for Shravan? Shravan has always felt the love, and I agree he put it on the back burner, gave it less precedence than his friendship with Suman. What about Suman? So I think the question is not Why did Shravan do what he did, but rather, Why did Suman react the way she did.

Just to add to my previous post, I'd like to say that from when the serial commenced, it has been very obvious from the story telling and the actor's expressions that Shravan was in love with Sumo and as an adult, still harbours those romantic feelings of his younger years. Either the actor is spot on, and has portrayed Shravan correctly, beautifully or his expressions have been misleading. Or the story line has changed. Sumo's physical proximity affected him deeply- he is still in love with her and desires her.
However, Suman has never had those reactions. She treated him with more maturity than her younger self BUT she treated him like the dear friend she saw him as. So for her to suddenly heave her chest in anticipation now is a bit odd and confusing. Shravan's reasons for putting his romantic feelings aside is clear. Sudan's reasons for putting those platonic feelings aside is very very unclear!

@Beagleboy
Sorry for the late reply! Very interesting take.

1. Yes, he did miss his friend more than the girl he loved. However, those two are not mutually exclusive. For him, she can never just be the best friend.
Regarding Suman's romantic feelings for Shravan - now that I look at it, they were always there but majorly underplayed. Note her excitement when he returned, to the way she looked at him through her car mirror as he walked away to the way she bore her heart to him during the dance by saying words like never leave me again or I don't want to dance with anyone to the way she weeped when Shravan got engaged to Urvashi. All those were clear indications that he's not just a friend for her. She does see him as a man, & I think somewhere that was heightened by the fact that he returned as a really good looking, hot guy. IMO, she started developing romantic feelings for him when he was no longer in her life.. she started missing him to realising the value he had in her life when he was around, to fixating/awaiting his return to subconsciously developing a crush for him.

2. Initially I though the same way as you. Maybe I am giving more credit to the CVs here than deserved, but nothing in this show so far has been kuch bhi ainvayi. There's been clear reasoning behind why things have happened & why characters behave in a certain way.
So I feel this flirting (which is clearly just Shravan being naughty with his best friend & Suman overthinking things) was needed to make Suman realise her feelings. Why this way? Because if not for Preeta's intervention, Suman would have never realised that she loves Shravan. They would just go on with the status quo because that is a comfortable zone for both of them. The kiss drama to emphasise the fact that nothing's changed between them (even though now she loves him) but rather there is an added sense of awareness of his physical proximity - something that indicates more than friendship. It couldn't have been done any other way because if you look at the intimacy they share, it is no different than what a boyfriend/girlfriend or a married couple would have, minus the physical proximity.
I have to admit though this whole physical proximity angle could have been brought out more organically, rather than through Preeta filling ideas in Suman's head that Shravan is going to kiss her - why would he do that? He never did anything more to let her know that he loves her.

Shravan is a charmer. Add to that the harmless flirting he does around women. I don't think he's flirting with Suman at the moment, but he clearly did when he was trying to lure her into the party & he became very well aware then that the charm he uses on women, works on her too. And that I feel in a subconscious way pushes him to corner her etc because afterall she is the woman he loves.

3. Yes, agree with you there. He didn't make much out of her gestures.
I don't think Suman is messed up, rather I feel the story is constantly being told from Shravan's POV. They've always focused much more on Shravan Malhotra - the man, & Shravan Malhotra - the lover, so much so that I feel the focus on Suman too has been to allow Shravan to act, & feel. Its high time IMO that they start focusing on Suman. Why she did what she did back then, why she never contacted him & most importantly, when is it that she developed romantic feelings for Shravan.. With this upcoming track, I do hope the focus shifts more to Suman's charcter.
