I think I am slightly team Kangna. Knowing the power and prestige Hrithik comes with he can surely pay to make anyone look delusional.
Kangna isn't saint either but I refuse to believe she was sooo smitten by this mr. greek god. They had an affair that HR wanted to hide and Kangna was done hiding.

Kangana Ranaut's Life is the Story of a Rebel's Desperation

For years we've adored Shah Rukh Khan as an idol who came from nowhere and took Bollywood by storm, sweeping away all awards without a Godfather. But when a woman marches ahead achieving almost the same, we start digging deep. Our efforts to pull down a talent with two national awards, owing to her not so socially or politically correct past, is commendable. The truth is, it is difficult to accept that a woman has emerged as a threatening game-changer for the ever patriarchal Bollywood.

On this hypocritical note, let's discuss Kangana Ranaut.

Kangana Ranaut in a scene from Tanu Weds Manu Returns

The recent Kangana - Hrithik war has raised many eye-balls. If you look closely, there are multiple issues creating a wall of difference not only between the stars but also in audience perceptions, as it redefines some basic concepts on the conventional gender equations of this country. This article is not meant to be a feminist ballad for Kangana Ranaut. Rather, this is an attempt to understand the experiments of a modern Indian woman with herself.

What amazes about Kangana Ranaut is her unapologetic acceptance of what she is. India is still the land where women get objectified, controlled and suppressed. What gave this small town girl the confidence and strength to represent herself so fearlessly?

Very few can stand on the fragile platform of Bollywood, claiming that the presence of the Khans doesn't decide her choice of films, the script does. Howsoever arrogant this might sound, a survey through the past trends would confirm that Kangana is a professional manglik! Every time she teamed up with high profile heroes, the films have tanked. So it makes sense for her to choose the script and not the brand she is working with.

Who is Kangna as a brand? A fantastic actor, self-made and successful. Period. But do we really fantasize her? How many men would call her the woman of their dreams? How many women want to be like her? India can handle a successful woman, but the country still hiccups when it comes to a bold woman. It was the year 2000 when Sushmita Sen shocked the country by adopting a girl child with no guarantee of having a husband in her near future. We celebrated her courage. But secretly, we were intimidated by her. It's been sixteen years since. Nothing has changed.

Kangna Ranaut's confidence is not limited to her career goals. Her relationships, that are reported and gossiped about, have mainly hovered around married men.

Does ambition make us commitment phobic? When a woman falls for a married man, she signs an unspoken treaty that her security is not dependent on her partner. Such relationships are convenienced with companionship and desire, devoid of attachment.

Are women today looking for short term pleasure that comes without responsibilities? This brings us to another fundamental question. Are we increasingly losing faith in that exclusivity of love, which brought stability and settlement? How forbidden is that confident, powerful woman who has a mysterious past with a man?

Kangana Ranaut in a scene from Queen

The star has gone on record to say that she did have a troubled childhood. When pushed to the corner, probably a woman turns into a rebel! Even Mallika Sherawat emerged from the same psychological restraint. Whatever path these ladies adopted is commonly called an act of desperation. So, is desperation the new language of women who wish to break boundaries? How cool' is India with these new breed of desperate women who wouldn't stop because others want them to?

The Hrithik-Kangana war is not the act of a small town girl. It is the desperation of a rebel. Her emotions have been misused, and they are being recklessly manhandled.

Today, some love notes that Kangana Ranaut had written to her supposed lover, are mercilessly going public. It can get unnerving for many, when their weak moments become a talk of the masses, and hard earned success is evaluated with respect to one's personal mess. But instead of giving up, till date the actor has chosen to give it back, knowing pretty well that more mud-slinging might follow. Whether she is actually the one wronged or she is the miscreant, it is clear that she has a heart of steel that won't melt under pressure. She has her eyes fixed on her agenda. You just can't touch her and not get affected.

Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan in a scene from Krrish 3

In the history of Bollywood, we have heard much about clashes between actors. It is interesting to note though, that battles between male actors are usually the macho brawl', while the issues between ladies get reported as cat-fights'. The Indian media and its audience today are fairly confused about the word they should use while reporting the Hrithik-Kangana case. Fight' or spat', as are terms commonly used, didn't occur before so openly. Earlier, the ladies stayed within their limits because the men who called shots in the industry could destroy careers.

But this time, the more they scare and threaten, the more a rebel will rise.

How easy is it for a woman to misuse power today? To what lengths can a civilised man go to tame this blazing woman? Kangana Ranaut's conduct under this case till date talks loads about the changing woman of modern India, who has built herself with a kind of ruthlessness. This new woman is desperate to make a point and say it loud. Is that desperation' a dirty word? Your call!

Is Hrithik Roshan Guilty Of s**t-Shaming' Kangana Ranaut?

SK Jha

That's because that's the way we want it to be. Two top stars locked in a sex scandal is a dream opportunity for headlines. Most of Hrithik's supporters feel Hrithik did it to defend his honour and reputation. On the other hand the Kangana supporters feel he just went into a denial about their relationship at the cost of her reputation.

Until recently Hrithik was the gentleman who could do no wrong, even if he had an extra-marital affair he informed his wife of it.Apparently when Hrithik had a relationship with Babara Mori he went and told his then-wife about it and felt he had done the "right thing". But when it came to Kangana it never got down to an actual affair.

Says a prominent entertainment media editor, "Hrithik invited entertainment editors to his home and showed them all the email that Kangana had sent him. There were dozens and dozens of them. There was not a shred of evidence that they actually had an affair. But it would have happened if Hrithik was not going through a divorce at that time.He pulled back for the sake of his sons and his reputation as a responsible parent."

(Incidentally on the eve of his marriage to the wonderful Sussanne , Hrithik was involved with a leading actress . He later told me in an unguarded moment that the actress had "screwed up his brain").

But now Hrithik has gone steps ahead. He apparently begun to show pictures that were allegedly sent.

Says a senior editor, "So far he had our attention and sympathy. But now his desperation to prove his innocence has become ungallant. Kangana is not wrong in describing Hrithik's attempts to discredit her as s**t shaming' It is a prevalent kiss-and-tell mentality in the industry. Kangana has gone through it before when Aditya Pancholigave the press lurid details of his association with her. She fought back then. She will fight back now. She is not afraid of being tarnished."

Sources supporting Kangana say she won't back off.

A filmmaker who has worked with her describes her tenacity as exceptional. "Once she sets her mind on something she doesn't assess the damage . She just goes for the kill. She has pissed off several big heroes.I believe a lot of the A-listers don't want to work with her.She doesn't care. She is not intimidated by power or daunted by being deprived of it."

Curiously no one prominent from the film industry agreed to speak about her or Hrithik.

"It is their battle.Let them sort it out," said a director who has in the past shared a relationship with her.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR KANGANA

Shobhaa De

India is no country for women - old or young. Fact. Bollywood is no place for women, either.

Spunky women. Women who speak up. Talk back. Take on the mighty men who control the billion dollar industry. Expose harsh realities. Talk turkey. There is simply no space for them in this business.

Just look at the reactions to the Kangana Ranaut- Hrithik Roshan imbroglio. Bollywood has promptly closed ranks and all but officially declared Kangana an outcast. A persona non grata. Her crime? She went public with a private matter. How public? Well... it was a cheeky tweet that didn't name anybody. Is that all? Perhaps not. But what a ferocious backlash she has had to face for her audacity!

The big boys have ganged up against her - as men generally do. Some are running for cover, wondering what sort of revelations she may unleash in future which involve them! Others are taking the moral high ground by expressing disgust that a woman could go to 'this extent'. Excuse me! What was she supposed to do? According to the Bollywood manual, Kangana should have kept her mouth shut, wallowed in self-pity, taken to booze/drugs, found another lover (or several), retreated into a quiet space, and shut the hell up. That's what generations of heroines have done in the past. It suits everybody. In particular, it suits the men in the movie business who are accustomed to 'own' any female they fancy. They see it as a perk... a privilege... that goes with their exalted position.

Then, along comes Kangana. And the entire edifice built on hypocrisy, deceit and double standards goes for a toss. Here's the thing: Kangana could be the biggest liar in the world. She could have made the whole thing up. Why can't the same be said about Hrithik Roshan? It can't. And it won't. Because that would pry open a huge can of worms. And nobody wants that. It's so much simpler to call Kangana names. To label her. To go to the extent of saying she suffers from a mental/emotional condition that makes her 'imagine' things! Really? Prove it, Mr Roshan.

Kangana is being punished for breaking the golden rule that keeps Bollywood afloat. Women in the film industry are meant to keep their lips sealed, and play ball. If an affair doesn't work out, a female star is supposed to slink away, stay mum, act martyred, and swallow everything (pun intentional). Kangana is being stigmatised, ostracised, black listed and worse. Lists of heroes who henceforth won't work with her are being gleefully publicised. There are all sorts of rumours doing the rounds - that she is unstable, unreliable, unsavoury. Nobody is calling Hrithik Roshan a megalomaniac. How come?

This is how Bollywood functions. Blame the woman. And dump her once done. Especially a woman like Kangana who doesn't really have a godfather in showbiz. It has happened to several other female stars in the past, and broken so many of them. Without an influential starfather, or a powerful hero to offer 'protection', women who are seen as 'outsiders' don't stand a chance in hell of surviving in Bollywood. But Kangana is made of other stuff. She poses a challenge and a threat to the status quo. It's so much simpler to gang up against her, declare her a 'mental case', ruin her career... and chase her out.

Well, the past is the past. Today's Bollywood girls have more 'dum'. Some of them, at any rate. Kangana has always been a non-conformist. What did Hrithik think once he'd sent her a lawyer's notice? That she'd get cowed down, sit tight and wait for the skies to fall? No chance. Not this girl. Perhaps she's playing it all wrong and causing serious damage to her career, reputation, and image. Perhaps, she will be the one bearing the brunt of this mess once the dust settles. But the important thing is, she chose to speak up. At enormous risk to her professional position. Nobody here cares how many national awards an actress has won. Nor how talented she is. All that matters is her 'co-operation'.

Kangana is the Lone Ranger. She will discover how isolated she is when all the so-called friends she once courted and who gushed over her, vanish overnight. She will be left high and dry, while the Big Boys party on...

Should Kangana have been shrewd and sensible and kept quiet after all she went though (if her version is to be believed)? Should she have placed her career/money ahead of all else... her heart and feelings included? Most other actresses do just that... and the heroes love them for it! Kangana may just have committed professional hara-kiri. Bollywood biggies will kiss her goodbye, and make sure she stays out of the charmed circle. She'll be dubbed a 'trouble-maker'. There will be a well-orchestrated campaign to make sure big banners banish her.

But you know what? At least Kangana Ranaut, has had the guts to take on a far more powerful adversary. Respect.

Not taking either sides because it is ridiculous to draw conclusions based on partial evidence like most members here are doing on the forum. And off late, ever since HR has been using his mouthpiece DNA on a regular basis with doses of articles against her, the tide has swifted in his favour, so it is nice to have another perspective of this tamasha through this thread.
