Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice. I called myself a Lata-Asha fan and then switched my loyalties towards Suman-Asha, when I came to know that the Lata songs that I loved were actually sung by Suman Kalyanpur

Om shanti! Underrated singer but such a sweet voice. People compared her to Lata saying she benefitted from the Rafi-Lata feud when she was given duets with the former but that’s a disservice to her and her talent. Her voice was distinctive if you took care to listen closely. Like many, I too was surprised to know so many of the songs I thought were sung by Lata were actually Suman songs. But as I grew and became a keener music aficionado, I could easily make out the differences in the nuances in Lata and Suman’s singing.

Listen to these songs - such fantastic singing. In no way was she lesser than any of the female singers of that time!

PS: I had to go hunting in the Bollywood forum to find this thread, wasn’t GAed nor is there an article on IF on her. Real shame we forget the artists of yesteryears! We can lose some of the gossip and give these stalwarts the limelight at least on their passing away
