I haven't watched the last one. So out of the rest, direction wise I would say HDDCS was his best. Khamoshi is my personal favorite.

Khamoshi is his first and best movie so far! Those were the days when manisha koirala and nana patekar were magical on screen! Many people haven't probably seen the movie, it's a must watch and great!
