1) he is reacting like a father. he knows Naag-Naagins and humans can co-exist but matrimonial bond may be not.

2) the book also plays a role. SS probably does know the contents of the book Sesha gave Shivanya and what the last four pages were. (Though I doubt if the Cvs remember that such a book was also introduced in the story)

The makers has selective amnesia or short term memory loss with makers remembering or forgetting the book n yogiraj from time to time at the most inopportune time 😆
