A new day, A new beginning. That's what they say, right? Well, not in my case! For me, It was never a new day, a new beginning. Everyday was the same. Useless and Boring! Life is such a hectic, I swear! I mean, what kind of life is this? Work Work and Just Work!! If I tell this to someone, I know they will wonder how's that even possible. I'm the girl who has it all, right? The perfect job, well settled house and above all, a gorgeous face. Yeah, I know I'm gorgeous! Okay Forget that. I'm cute. Okay Okay, I am exaggerating. But only a little. Oh shit! I'm late. Sneha!! She must be waiting for me! I stepped out of my house and drove to the boutique. She was no where around. "She's at the back of the cafe!" I heard. "Okay, Thanks.." I said and immediately went to see her. I found her sitting at the table, huddled over tall cups of coffee and looking extremely serious. Well, she looked serious most of the time, anyway. But this was out-of-the-usual serious.
"So,hi!" I said, trying to act all cheerful while I peeled off my leather jacket.
"I wanted to talk to you about something. So, I chose to do it here in this cafe because it's a neutral ground. Not My place or yours, and I thought it might be less emotionally charged here than either of our apartments."
Whoa. My heard began to thump a little harder than usual. This sounded serious. Neutral Ground? less emotionally charged? like, what?
Wait.. is it about them? Shit, No!
"So umm, I don't know where to start from but.."
"Wait! What is it about? You're scaring the hell out me Sneha!" I said, in a serious way.
"See, Calm down first."
Wait, what? Calm down? Was she really asking me to Calm down? Grr, you gotta be kidding, man!
"Nandini?" She said. "Are you even listening to me? Pay Attention!" She continued.
"Yeah..Yes. Will you please break the suspense and speak up?"
"I know you will kill me after this but still.."
Now, She was really, like really scaring me.
"Speak up God Damnit!" I demanded.
"One-of-your-Friend-reached--me-and-asked-me-to-give-your-contact-details-and-I-Did." She said. She said this whole thing in one single breath.
What? My Friend? I knew who that might be because I literally had no friends except them. They were my ONLY Friends. I mean, they still are. But still.. In these two years, None of them tried to reach me then all of a sudden..What might have happened? After all, we mutually decided to call it off, right? And since then, none of us ever met. Forget meeting, we never even talked!
"Which Friend?" I asked.
"She didn't tell me her name."
She. Okay, fine. One thing was confirmed by now, that it was not him.
"Where did you meet her?" I asked.
"She came to the boutique yesterday in order to see you but you were not there."
Oh yeah. I was out of town.
"So?" I asked.
"So.. I told her that you're out of town. She insisted me to give your contact number. At first, I hesitated but she was really begging me to give your contact information, Nandini. I just couldn't say a no. I know, I have broken my promise but seriously, I tried alot."
That promise. Yeah.
Well, I came to Delhi 2 years back and started this boutique business with Sneha. She was the only person I knew in Delhi. Sneha was my class fellow in school. We were like, really close friends in school. She definitely proved that a friend in need, is a friend indeed!
"Nandini!!" Sneha screamed. Like, literally screamed.
"WHAT THE? I'm not a deaf Sneha!!"
"But you look like one. Dude, I'm talking to you!"
"Uhh. Okay. No problem, it's okay."
Sneha was stunned to hear this.
"No problem? It's okay? Have you lost it Nandini?"
Sneha is impossible. I mean, first she doesn't want me to get angry on her and now when I'm actually being calm, she is behaving like a total weirdo!
"Yeah. It's okay. I don't mind. You gave her my number..That's not a big deal!" I said calmly.
"You sure, right? I mean, I broke your promise."
"2 years have passed Sneha! It doesn't affect me anymore. And about that promise..Well, To be honest, Mujhe yaad bhi nahi tha. It's been 2 years Sneha, 2 years." I said.
"You Okay, right?"
"Uh-Uhh." I said, and Nodded.
Just when We were talking, My phone rang. "Oh. Excuse me."
"Sure" Said Sneha.
"Hello, Nandini Murthy Here. Who's this?"
"Nandu, it's me."
My eyes widened hearing the voice and my heart beat started to race. Thousands of flashback started flashing in my mind.
And..Psst! That's her!
There was a deadly silence for a while. I was shocked. I was happy to hear her voice after two long years though.
"Navya." I finally said, composing myself.
"Long time, han?"
"Too long! Two Years." I said.
"How are you?"
"Fine..You?"
"Same here.." She replied.
And again, there was a pin drop silence.
"So?" I said, breaking the silence.
"Nandini-I'm-Getting-Married!" She said in one go.
I was shocked hearing this. "WHAT?" I cried.
"Yes! I'm getting Married Next week!"
"Married? To whom? What does he do? Is he a good guy? Navya! You know You're such a fool at choosing the right person. You don't know anything about people, do you? And duh, You're telling me now? Just a week before your marriage? like seriously?"
Wait..what? What did I just say? Shit Shit Shit! Nooo!
"Don't feel embarrassed now. I knew that was coming! It's okay to speak your heart out, Nandini." She said.
"Anyways.. who is he?" I asked.
"That I'm not telling you! Come, See him yourself!"
"What? Come where? What are you talking about?"
"Nanduuu! You have to come to my wedding. Next week. Be there."
"Wait! No! I mean..I'm busy next week"
"I know you aren't. Stop Making excuses."
Uh! She knew me so well.
"You're coming Nandini and that's final!"
"Sab arahey hain?" I asked in a low voice. I was wishing that she says no. I didn't want to face them again. It would be so awkward for me. For all of us.
"Pata nahi.." She said.
"Pata Nahi?"
"Yeah..Mukti said she has got some fashion show to attend, Alya is busy with her photography club, Cabir has also not confirmed yet and Dhruv..He's busy with the dancing and all!"
"And?" I asked.
"And Who?" She asked.
What the hell Nandini? What are you doing? Not him, please!
"Naah! Nothing. Well, I'll see. I'll let you know, okay?" I said.
"Manik, right?"
And That was it. One name. Thousands of memories down the lane!
"He might not come. You know, He's a superstar now!"
Yeah, Right. Manik Malhotra the Superstar.
"Great! That's where he belong."
"So, you're in right?" She asked.
"I'll let you know."
"Okay then..Bye?"
No, Please! Talk to me. I so wanted to say that but I just couldn't.
"Yeah..Bye.." I said and Disconnected the call.
