There are certain codes of conduct & behaviour that he expects from everyone & expects them to act accordingly.He is fair,he is just & he is reasonable & that's why every single person in the family either respects him or is scared of him

Remember the time Survi made it look like Bindu was harrassing her,the first words out of Kartik's mouth were for Tai " Tai,Bindu di Survi ke saath aise behave kar rahi hein aur aap yahaan khadi sab chup chap dekh rahi hein " And that's excatly why Tai is so scared of Kartik.Kartik ka pyaar apni jagah hota hai & being fair & just that precedes everything else.That's what is paramount for him.

And there are many more instances like the time he saw Tai's kids torturing Survi before leap & he reprimanded them & showed Tai how despicable their behaviour has been or recently even he got mad at Survi because she misbehaved with Shrikant

Also Tai behaves as the matriarch but Kartik has always been shown as the ultimate supreme authority in the Barve family,a few levels higher than Tai.Like the time Tai wanted to kick out Kishore because he didnt want to be a Ghar Jamaai,Aniket comes to her & tells her " Aap kuchh bhi keh lo par end mein is ghar mein wohi hoga jo Bhai ka faisla hoga."

He brought Survi home against Tai's wishes,he made Kishore stay & wanted Bindu to work on their relationship against Tai's wishes.So yeah All of Tai's show of power gets severely diluted before Kartik,the man who has the final say in the family.

Kartik has always been shown to be childlike & less mature than Survi but boy he behaves way more sensibly than most,is pragmatic,is honourable
