Today the CVs showed one of the most powerful mantras of Santhana Dharma which is actually given to the boy during the thread ceremony in Brahmin communities. It is said that only when he receives this knowledge he becomes a Brahmin. So actually Brahmin by birth is something that has been created later.
Whoever eligible to receive the gyaan of Gayatri Mantra can be a Brahmin, just like Maharishi Vishwamitra to whom Gayatri Mantra was first revealed. Though Kshatriya by birth with his tapasya he becomes Brahmarishi.

So this is Gayatri Mantra
om bhr bhuva sva
tt savitr vre(i)ya
bhrgo devsya dhmahi
dhyo y na prachodyt

Transalation by Swami Vivekananda- We meditate on the glory of that Being who has produced this universe; may He enlighten our minds

It is expected that the chanting of this mantra facing the sun early morning is highly beneficial to the health and increases focus and concentration. I have seen this phenomenon in my batchmate who ha regularly chanted this mantra. His eyes had a kind of power and serenity about them

What I feel about this mantra is that when we chant this mantra we are bowing to the supreme being who created us, in a way bowing to nature. So it is a way of making purush bow to prakriti and a man who understands the importance of prakriti in his life, worship nature daily becomes real powerful as he understands without prakriti he is not there and will always have reverence towards prakriti and will not destroy it.

And this can also be the reason this mantra was asked to be chanted by men and not by women. Because women herself is prakriti.
But patririchial society again made it something as only given to men as they are superior ( This is just my POV and I used to fight always why a woman cant chant Gayatri Mantra.)

Shruti I chant gayatri mantra every morning as well since I was 10 years old. It gives me immense peace within.
I had no clue that it was only to be chanted by men.

Hi...I did not know that Gayatri mantra cannot be chanted by women. When i was a student, we all chanted gayatri mantra in assembly prayers. I have never come across this notion of Gayatri Mantra not being chanted by women.

My mother taught me Gayatri mantra, she said that it is not chanted by girls only because we ourselves were the source of energy{same as you said that a woman was herself prakriti, Shruthi}.But I love chanting it as both a reminder to value our core and as a prayer for my well being. I have taught it to my kids too and since it is short😉it is one of the shlokas that they love doing so.
Enlightenment and self realization are universal concepts and beyond any gender bias...so why limit our self !

Shruti

Not to pinpoint but there are many typos in the mantra whichever way one reads it. Its better to give links from various websites that are more informative. Mantras are like missiles and right pronunciation is important. Unlike other shlokas and stotras. And any mantra is taken from a Guru(mother, father or some guru)

Just a friendly advice.

The entire school including students and staff chant the mantra everyday. Irrespective of religion.
The mantra is very powerful.
It will most effective when seated in meditation position. The pointing [index] finger pressed against the thumb,(gyan mudra) back straight, eyes closed, each time starting and ending with OM.
Please note the meditation position can be standing or even lying down. (For those who cannot sit)

Those who don't know the mantra. I request that you hear the chanting rather than trying to read .
Mantras are normally written in sankrit and when translated into English some of the words
Cannot be properly translated.
And if pronounced wrong can do more harm than good.

The power of 108

Traditionally, the Gayatri mantra is recited or chanted 108 times on three occasions daily - at sunrise, at midday and at dusk, when the sun is setting.

It can be repeated in totals of 108, 1,008, 10,008, etc.

When we repeat the Gayatri mantra three times over the day, we are basically affirming the concept of the trinity of life - birth, growth, death.

A japa mala (prayer beads), having 108 beads, is often used during the chanting of the mantra.

For centuries, the number 108 has had relevance in Hinduism, Buddhism and in yoga and dharma related spiritual practices. Countless explanations have been given to provide significance to the number 108. Here are a few:

The ancient Indians were excellent mathematicians and 108 may be the product of a precise mathematical operation (e.g. 1 power 1 x 2 power 2 x 3 power 3 = 108) which was thought to have special numerological significance.

There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine and feminine, Shiva and Shakti. 54 times 2 is 108.

On the Sri Yantra, there are marmas (intersections) where three lines intersect, and there are 54 such intersections. Each intersections has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti qualities. 54 x 2 equals 108. Thus, there are 108 points that define the Sri Yantra as well as the human body.

9 times 12 is 108. Both of these numbers have been said to have spiritual significance in many ancient traditions.

The chakras, our energy centers, are the intersections of energy lines, and there are said to be a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them, Sushumna, leads to the crown chakra, and is said to be the path to Self-realization.

In vedic astrology there are 12 constellations, and 9 arc segments called namshas or chandrakalas. 9 times 12 equals 108. Chandra is moon, and kalas are the divisions within a whole.

In 108, 1 stands for God or higher Truth, 0 stands for emptiness or completeness in spiritual practice, and 8 stands for infinity or eternity.

It is said that Atman, the human soul or center goes through 108 stages on its journey.

Another interesting thing you would be surprised to know that the Sun-Earth distance is roughly 108 Sun diameters and the diameter of the Sun itself is 108 times that of Earth.
