@DD Gayatri Mantra is said to have been revealed first time to a human in Viswamitra after his tapasya.

Ok, so interesting to read about the mantras, but I was born in an arya samaj family and grew up with that belief, and it makes sense to me.
In fact it is the most chanted mantra of arya samajis- this and the shanti path.

As I child, twice a day we said it, taught by my mother and father, - there was no barrier of women can't chant it, or a technique of chanting it - we did it, in whatever way we could, sitting down, standing, my mom often did it while doing her evening chores, being a working woman, time was critical for her,

Many a times my dad chanted his on the go, we as kids fidgeted through it, but till date it is the mantra that comes naturally to me when I do want to sit down and pray, and the gayatri mantra and the shanti mantras are what I relate to most!

I feel honestly, that all these are but ways to self control, to meditate, to manage our minds and emotions and that's the true power of these mantras!

Chant them whenever, however, chant them to clean your heart, to control your thoughts, and to gain peace! Everything else - is secondary ...

I am a teacher and in my school every student and staff member chant this mantra. Here nobody is aware of this notion that women can't chant this mantra.

@ms.dhingra nice to know that everyone in your school chant this mantra. Maybe this notion of girls should not chant is prevalent only in certain communities.
