Choosing right script is battle half won for stars. But everyone (including perfectionists) commit mistakes. But we can choose from statistics.
Amongst males, I think Amir, Salman, Ranbir have got good script sense. Salman although acts in nonsense movies, he can exactly read whether it strikes a chord with "his target audience" or not. He can turn down Gowariker's script, if he thinks it does not match his audience taste. Ranbir chose young directors and fresh scripts in his beginning. Off late, his judgements have gone wrong. When his mind is not tied (free), he makes better choices.
Sharukh and Akshay go by tried and tested directors (not scripts) and repeat them. It can be hit or miss. Shahid takes so long to sign a project and ends up doing Shaandar. Even Hritik goes by director or budget. These people often have to lift the movie by their star power alone due to their poor script choices.
Amongst females, Sridevi, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone, PC have good script choices. (Interestingly Deepika is not fond of reading. Even Sridevi, probably).
Madhuri, Kareena lacks it. They have to compensate for it only by their acting.
