When a good character changes suddenly and start doing everything bad - it is indeed butchering of character - and when this character start doing everything that will hurt only her own cause and strengthen the claim of the lead - then it is indeed butchering to make the lead look good. It happened with Gauri and it is happening in case of Mangala. With Gauri - people accepted because Anandi was not in a position to counter her - she was left under educated by DS - it was not her fault - she was not empowered. And we did not see the good side of Gauri much (not clear though because I missed initial J- Gauri phase as well as Anandi-J relationship after leap - found it like regular show just after the leap - with teenage love story type). But I think Gauri was not shown like helping others and saving someone etc. So, that track was accepted by viewers.

Well it's convenient to say that the character of Mangala is butchered and hence there are people hating her because the character of Anandi isn't butchered at all, on the contrary she's an angel but still there are people averse to her.

But yes every show needs an evil personality so right now Akhiraj is in jail and Mangala has taken his place.

Mangala may be good at sometime but what she is doing now is not at all acceptable. Just because a person is good for a part of their life doesn't make it okay if they do such evil things later. No one is born negative, its their choice to turn negative, and Mangala chose that road. Now she is negative. Her negative side outweighed her positive character.

She may have different set of values as compared to Akheraj and Harki.
