you are right, this is a recycled version of starbharat. and i really don't see the concept of showing the mahabharata from karn's prospective. and if they are they should stay true to it, karn was no reformer. he was driven by ambition and his rivalry with Arjun. he chose to side with duryodhana even though the knew he was evil. if karn did ever interact with lord krishna, he would have never been able to choose duryodhan, he would understand immediately the it was lord krishna who was the one who would bring about change and reform.
what they are showing currently, that karn is conned into siding with duryodhan and pledging undying devotion to him, because he things duryodhan will help him bring about change, is only making karn look even more stupid.
i not saying karn was a bad or evil person, but he did make the wrong choices, he chose the wrong people to make friends with. he harps about standing against injustice, but it was because of his support that duryodhana was able to perpetrate injustice after injustice on the pandavas.
evil becomes powerful when good men do nothing. and that was karn's sin.
they should have stayed true to the mahabharata, by showing that karn chose to align himself with duryodhana because duryodhan honored him with the crown of Ange. that he stood by duryodhana in all his misdeeds, because karn was benefiting from it by getting recognition as a warrior, which fueled his rivalry with arjun, and his ambition to be known as the foremost warrior. he was not driven by any reformation ideas or social change. karn as a sooth only wanted the right to carry a weapon and challenge other kshatriyas.
