Shah Rukh Khan to come and live in Pakistan has not gone down well with Muslims in Agra. Saeed's remarks followed the furore over an interview that King Khan gave to India Today, in which he said there is extreme intolerance in present-day India.

Hindustani Biradari secretary Ziauddin told India Today, "The word 'intolerance' does not appear to do justice to the situation that is developing in India, but the way Shah Rukh Khan is portraying it is wrong. This is encouraging the country's enemies to speak ill of us."

"Shah Rukh Khan's family in itself is an example of the religious tolerance in India," added Ziauddin. "If Shah Rukh Khan is so pained by the supposedly growing intolerance in India, why hasn't he returned his Padma award yet?"

As

Ashfaq Saifi of the BJP questioned Hafiz Saeed's knowledge of Islam. "Hafiz Saeed is not even a true Muslim as Islam never taught a Muslim to hurt or torture people of other religions. If he has forgotten this important lesson, then he should first reread the Quran instead of commenting on the supposed 'intolerance' in India," he said.

Social activist Deep Sharma said, "India is a country with one of the most diverse demographics in the world and it was an epitome of secularism. Even Shah Rukh Khan is aware of the weight India carries, yet he ridiculed his own countrymen in the name of intolerance, which is highly condemnable."
