Chapter 20
Maan proclaiming his trust in her kicked Geet's memory cells, overruling the pain his given her. She never thought of divorce before when he gave her pain and now when somewhere deep down she accepted him, the concept of divorce was unthinkable. She out right refused Brij and then both the brother and sister had a talk. A heart to heart talk, where her brother told her how Maan's changed and that she needed to take the first initiative since Maan was absorbed in guilt to make any move. However in the opposite end of the town, Maan was overflowing himself in alcohol to eliminate the pain he felt. Later that night he entered the Mansion with the help of his bodyguards, too drunk to take two steps. The thought of Geet going away from him ripped his already shredded heart. Was it possible for him to feel pain when he caused severe pain to an innocent? But then again why not, because now his a human, a living; breathing human. Who felt pain like never before and finally hearing the sentence to his crime; he knew there was no turning back. How true is it that 'one pays for their sins on this earth'? Because now he felt the pain Geet did when he accused her; when he forced her; when he broke her but the pain was magnified by a 1000 since he was a changed Maan. A Maan who truly, soulfully loved his Geet.
The loud knock broke her slumber, working her way through the dark she opened the door only for Maan to stagger in.
'Ma'am sorry woh saab is a little drunk' the bodyguards tried to pull him back
'Leave me' he shouted holding onto Geet's hand
'It's ok, you guys go' she spoke seeing how Maan refused to budge while his staff withered in tension. Closing the door, she pulled Maan to the bed; she took off his shoes and asked him to sleep before moving towards the sofa.
'Will you leave me?' he questioned but the ache in his voice reached her ear making her stop
'Please don't leave, I don't think I'll survive' he slumped back up trying hard to reach her
'I'm I that bad that you won't give me a second chance, I tried my best to change Geet, for you just for you' he stated standing in front of her
'I know I was wrong but I just didn't know what else to do' he pulled her to the bed, both sat facing the window. Outside it was pouring, drenching the plants with pure pristine water. Maybe it was time for Geet to be a witness of Maan's thirst, his quest for pure love.
'I loved you the minute I saw you, the coffee day' he smiled remembering how even in fear she was looking stunning making him bend his ways
'Everything was perfect, even if we never spoke, your aura was enough to settle my heart. Something about you just made everything bad in my life turn all good. Then Dev came and everything just changed. I hated him, I hated you but most of all I hated myself for falling for you. I didn't want to fall for someone's women, you were his fianc. But this crazy heart wanted you for itself, mein majboor tha' he rubbed his hand over his heart while Geet heard his side for the first time. Yes she was shocked to know he felt the way he did when at that time she only scared of him.
'I didn't know it was love or even like until Anni said she loved Dev. At that time it seemed like the perfect excuse to separate you from Dev, I've always been possessive about my things and here my heart belonged to you. Mujse bata bhi nahi chala when and how I fell in love but deeply. I swear I loved you before Dev was in the picture but he just made me realise it' he pinched his throat looking so cute that forced a smile on Geet's face
'I believe you' she giggled in tears removing his hands. She sat beside him trying to understand his point of view, yes it was a shocker to think that Maan loved her but somewhere she believed him well her heart did, that was falling for him minute by minute.
'Then I did all that bad stuff' he scrunched his nose as if to say it was repulsive
'But what can I do, I was not thinking straight and then Anni crying made me mental. They were so young when papa died and that women left us for a man. It was up to me to bring Naina and Anni up, that's why Naina is so peculiar about her things, she's really mean to you I know but she's lost so much, she's become a little heartless. Me and Anni were much the same, whatever they ever wanted was offered apart from Dev. I felt like a failure, first you being away and then Anni' Maan cried covering his face while she sat there listening to his story. Geet didn't know Maan's mother left them, she assumed she died like his father and maybe that's why the Khurrana's are so rough because they never received a mother love. But she's also motherless, her mind tried to argue but then a picture of Mohinder, Nakul and her popped in her brain, reminding her of her cherished but protected life unlike Maan's and his sisters.
'I was wrong, so very wrong and you can punish me with whatever you want put please don't leave me' he cried against her stomach by placing his head on her lap.
'Please don't leave me, I'm sorry so very sorry, I'm sorry I promise never to hurt you, don't leave please, sorry' he kept mumbling until he dozed off. Geet saw a new Maan in him, not one that thought he was invincible, not a guilty Maan but a soulful Maan. Who regretted yet demanded for her companionship. But was she ready to fully move on was the question that was raised, but seeing a Maan laden in tears weakened her defence and pushed that little heart of hers. Everyone that tries to make amend deserves a second chance so did her marriage. Geet very slowly placed his head on the pillow and covered with a duvet. She stared down at the man who lay in her bedroom, seeing him in anguish she flowed her hands through his hair and carefully placed a peck on his forehead making his mutterings go away. It's needless to say this was a different couple altogether because this Maan and Geet were changed version of themselves. Geet very quietly pulled the other pillow and an extra duvet and walked to the sofa. Who would have thought she would share a bedroom with her husband? She laughed looking his way, the moon was shining bright, and the rain had also stopped. Much like the tension and fear in their relationship. Was it finally coming together? Could Maan and Geet live normal? Somewhere in her heart she knew the answer and tomorrow she herself would proclaim it in front of her husband and her family.
The morning sun broke his sleep, the man who deprived himself of light was being showered by the sun and to say he felt frustrated was an understatement. His head left heavy, his throat was clogged but a serene peace overcame his heart and a fruity smell enveloped his being. Opening just one eye, he scanned the room for the familiar smell but was shocked to notice the change causing him to jump.
'Ouch' he muffled feeling the heartache come on and that's well Geet entered her bedroom from the bathroom. Her hair was wet, her face was shiny and she was clad in a yellow kameez. She obviously looked beautiful since Maan sat there in bed gaping at her making her all the more nervous, which showed clearly due to the red blush. Natural blush is always better than a blusher, it highlights the cheeks and defines your emotion to the opposite person, in this case Maan. He stared at her hypnotic eyes that look for good in others, her beautiful lips that spoke only words of kindness and her small face that directs the falling demons to safety. So was his Geet and so shall she remain.
'Eee I'm sorry' he whispered collecting himself, still confused how he got here but all the more serious about where Geet slept since he knew Geet and him sharing a bed was next to impossible. Unfortunately for him, after Geet woke up she tidied after herself. 'Did he force her?' poor Maan had other thoughts
'Woh Geet did we, I mean did I, woh main' he stammered looking everywhere but her
'Did I do something to hurt you again' he cleared his throat when she asked him to state what he wanted
'No nothing happened that you should regret' she smiled a little trying to make him comfortable
'I'm sorry to have bothered you' he said running out the room but he heard her laughter echo in the hall. Stilling his movement, he stood a feet away from her door and focused his ears on her musical rhythm. Unknown to Maan he was also smiling ear to ear.
'Sir woh divorce papers are drafted as you instructed' Adi fearfully said, Maan who was happy until now turned around, forgetting his tie he clutched the paper and remembered what Brij wanted. He thought maybe Geet wanted the same, of course she would want this. Who in their right mind would want to be connected to an individual like him? With his resolve strengthened he walked the hallway again that lead to Geet's room but the only difference is yesterday he was drunk and trying to fix it and today he was sombre and normal but finishing their relationship.
Knock, Knock
'Maan' he heard her say, she looked like an fairy but this wasn't a time to be flowed with emotion, it was time to free his caged bird so she can fly, even if that's with Dev then he'd gladly take a back seat and watch the love of his life go away into the distance.
'Come in' she welcomed Maan with a shy smile, thinking that maybe he would ask for a second chance and also forgiveness. Although she has forgiven him, but it wouldn't kill if he apologised in his sombre state so that her doubtful mind and broken heart can rest.
'Here these are for you, sign them then you'll be free' she heard him say getting confused she unfolded the document only for the word 'DIVORCE' to pop out stilling her heart, her mind and her life
