Be it Salman Khan's dream woman to his dislike of candlelight dinners or Sonam Kapoor's favourite comfort food, Harper's Bazaar Bride dishes the dough on the it reel life couple.

Nupur Mehta Puri /Harper's Bazaar Bride | New Delhi, October 6, 2015

The superstar who would rule the hearts of the dreamy 90s kids and today's Instageneration alike, was born in Maine Pyar Kiya when his movie made waves across Indian cinema. Enters the epitome of a romantic hero after Rajesh KhannaHe, Salman Khan, was my first crush ever. And now as I find myself chatting with him between shots on this late autumn evening at Karjat, Mumbai, I realise that behind the on-screen persona is a man who is truly humane. One who is also peppered with enough fascinating facets-the kinds that justify my fixation with him or I am sure, of millions of girls. Family has been central to all his silver screen projects, and this holds true for his upcoming movie, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, as well. Coming together with an iconic moviemaker after more than a decade, and paired against our very first covergirl Sonam Kapoor, Mr Khan breaks it down for us-point by point, as he reveals shades of the man deep inside to Harper's Bazaar Bride. Sonam of course, is a delight to talk to and look at, as she has slowly evolved to be every young girl's go-to icon for all things that are style-curated and sensibility-loaded, and continues to make strong sartorial choices. At the moment, Ms Kapoor defines chic power in films and fashion. Here, she shares a checklist on men, must-haves, and more.

Salman speaks

Tell us about your upcoming movie.

It's been 14 years since I have worked with Sooraj (Barjatya), who always comes to me first whenever he has a script in mind. He wanted to create something that would surpass the benchmark set by Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Saath Saath Hain, and I was game for that. I can say that we have the right subject now, and I absolutely love it.

Having worked with Anil Kapoor before, what was it like working with his daughter?
Not many would recall that I did a 15-20 minute cameo with Sonam in Saawariya. She's a good person, hardworking, and a delight to work with. The best part you may ask? She doesn't take much time in between costume changes!

You have done a number of family films till date. Do you choose these on purpose?
A film would not be complete without a family-a father figure, or even a mother. When you do action movies back to back, there are no emotions involved-it's just another fight-scene laden spectacle. But my film Wanted was heavy on action, yet it had that father's angle. So did Veer and Bajrangi Bhaijaan; these were films with enough action and emotions to tug at heartstrings...

Well, when was the first time Salman Khan fell in love? Was it a school-time crush or a film-star infatuation?
Such a long time ago, I don't even remember I guess, I've liked many people and for me, like' as a word is hundred times more powerful than love. Love is old; it's just another word for need. It's just like saying you want something. It is really important to like the person, to know the person.

Now the big question, who is Salman's dream woman?
I don't have any dream woman, I don't think like that. There's one thing though that I think of, and that's my family and friends, and Being Human. So everything in my life revolves around these. Even if I'm out in the night, partying, and in the midst of the usual guy talk (cars, bikes, money, fights and things like that), suddenly my thoughts go back to Being Human. And, then I become the most boring guy at the party!

What is your idea of a soulmate? Do you believe in a perfect soulmate, or are there many soulmates?
Sometimes you meet a person, and you instantly know you would not connect. Then there are times, when you meet somebody and you feel like you've known that person for the longest time. The lucky ones just connect with each other, and the rest of us just keep waiting for that one soulmate, or may be not just one. Some people are unlucky in this regard, but I ask, what's wrong with that? There's an expiry date to human beings, so I'm sure there's an expiry date to love as well!

Is there a girlfriend whom you bond with?
No.

So, only male friends as BFFs?
Yes, haven't you heard that ladka ladki kabhi dost nahi ho sakte (a famous line from Maine Pyar Kiya)? And with my life right now, if I make a call to anyone after 11 pm, they get stressed!

Are you afraid of any woman?
I am afraid that they have so much faith in me and I'm afraid to let them down, of the respect they have for me. I'm afraid of failing them.

Are you romantic by nature?
I don't know. Perhaps, I am the most difficult person to be with, I think it's a proven fact now. Those things like pulling chairs, opening doors, walking together hand-in-hand, candle light dinners, chocolates, and flowers, oh, is that the idea of romance today? My idea is not trying to be somebody else. Right from the beginning of your relationship, you should try to be what you are going to be four years down the line. I can't have that candle light dinner, I can't even see the food, and it's boring!

Would you ever like to get married?
I would definitely like to have a child, but with that comes the woman as well, and that is difficult. I am 50 now and knowing my past life, if I go for it, I need to be 100 per centsure of the person I'm going to be with. Marry only when you think you are going to be responsible for someone's happiness.

But nowadays people have happy lives together with children, and even have open relationships...
No, I must have born 100 years back and then once again, and even before that, who knows! But definitely with the mentality of a 100-year old...I am still a very primitive man, I'm not traditional, but primitive!

And now a very personal question, what's your favourite perfume?
I wear Very Sexy by Victoria's Secrets (it's for men). I wear Issey Miyake as well.

Being Human is huge, how did that happen?
It comes from my parents, and it comes from their parents. Our money goes into education and healthcare, and through an institutionalised channel. I remember, I had got a very innocent hand-writing for that logo. I made all my nieces and nephews write it, and made a font in Alizeh's (his niece, Alizeh Agnihotri) hand-writing.

Best bedroom line you've ever used?
My life starts from my living room; there is nothing that I would say in front of four-five friends that I would not have the courage to say outside.

And now, Salman Khan, will soon be back in our living rooms with a bang, as Big Boss Season 9, premiers on October 11.
