Apart from the superhit movies of that time, which I believe would anyways work even today, below are the under-rated movies which cud have done well today :

1942 Love Story
Hum hai rahi pyar ke
Andaz Apna Apna
Pardes (An amazingly made movie)👏
Dushman
Judai
Laadla

That's it so far..⭐️

Zakhm and Maachis were one the best movie in the 90s era and it would worked in todays era. I don't agree with Judaai because it doubt if would connect to the audience in the todays era. Sridevi sold her husband Anil Kapoor in the movie and if they audience saw that they would be like W*F.

😉 I love Zakhm.. Not sure about Maachis though..

And my bad, I meant Judwa 😕 Judwa could be a great BO success today ⭐️

Border
Baazigar
Rangeela
Gupt
Karan Arjun
Mohra
Phool aur Kaante.
On a sidenote I just looked at the highest grossers in 90s each year. God, SRK was killing it. Some great movies which gave him critics praise as an actor and damn good at box office too.

I've already said that Border and Phool Aur Kaante (Same storyline) would not work in today times. The fact is that Border was a War movie between India and Pakiistan. If had it released then it would been it would been criticised and Pakistanis would have been offended. At one point people thought Phantom and Baby were Anti Pak movies until both films released. Anti-Pak movies no longer works in Bollywood even it there was one then Bollywood would get a bad reputation.
Phool Aur Kaante worked in the 90s era because those times were different. Like I said earlier on this thread movies in the 80s and 90s era often had the same storylines e.g. Phool Aur Kaante. Not all movies from the 90s will work in todays times especially Border.
I agree with all the other movies you mentioned but Phool Aur Kaante and Border would have not worked based on what I said.

Border was not Anti-Pakistan (although i might be mistaken cuz i never saw it). It was just an account of the war from India's point of view and it was banned in Pakistan. Border worked because it was a good movie not because of its Pakistan angle. If that were the case than LOC would've been a hit as well, it flopped miserably. Similarly Gaddar worked because of the love story at a time when a offensively anti-Pakistan movie Maa Tujhe Salam crashed and burned at the boxoffice. The recent debacle of Phantom also proves that people are not into propaganda but the content of the movie.

I have not seen many 90s films but one film that comes to my mind is HDDCS. It doesn't look/feel aged even today. Most SLB's films have that actually. Maybe cos of the great production values, his films are technically brilliant no matter what.

Also Dil Se, Iruvar( way way ahead of its times)

Earlier films were bigger success coz ppl only had FILMS as Entertainment source, now thx to techno revolution, that craze has faded away, forget 90's, even films made in today's time find it hard to get a clean hit tag.
