I just returned from the movie and here is my review.
The movie is strictly OK. It is not as bad as it is being made out to be. The biggest problem is the story and screenplay. The way Maddy's and Payal's characters are introduced through flashbacks and present, you don't get to connect with their love story. The build up is slow and the movie takes a long time to gain steam as it only shows the story from Maddy's perspective. It finally gains momentum in the penultimate 30 mins where the reason behind Payal's disappearance is known and the next scenes give the story its conclusion. By this time, as a viewer you are not empathetic with the characters because you never get to connect with them in the first place.
One of those classic cases of the concept looked well on paper but again not translated well onto screen. From technical standpoint, the movie is well shot, songs well placed and has nice production values.
Imran does a fair job in the lead role and is the protagonist of the story. He suits his character and you can believe his hopeless romanticism. All the supporting characters lend adequate support.
Finally, Kangana. She really doesn't have enough cumulative screen time compared to Imran. She appears primarily in flashbacks but does well in all her scenes: The craziness, free spirit and comedy (Devdas) . She looked gorgeous in her different clothes and hairstyles. I love her smile - and it was highlighted many times, a la KJO movie style. In the last 30 mins, you see her emotional side which she does very well. But then, I so wish the narrative was from her perspective/or the movie showed both of them equally.
