He started his career as a background dancer 😊
and made his debut in 2003 as a hero with Ishq Vishq.😃

He then worked in some trivial films like Dil Maange More, 36 China Town etc and was popular mostly because of his chocolate boy looks rather than his acting skills ...

Vivah came in 2006 was successful but it didn't make much impact on the audience and his career as well..

Then Jab We Met happened to him in 2007 and people started taking him a bit seriously.

Then it was Kaminey in 2009 which transformed him into something else.😉

After that, his flms were mostly average.

Be it Mausam, Teri Meri Kahani or Phata poster nikla hero?
R... rajkumar
was successful at the BO but it was an hell of a mediocre film.🤢

But Haider in 2014 again lifted him up.😃 It was a good film from him after a long time👏
It marked his third breakthrough and now he is again back in the game.

He was once in the the leagues of Hrithik-Abhishek and was then placed in the leagues of Vivek, John etc...

then he was in the leggues of Ranbir-Imraan for sometime and now he is giving takkar to the younger lot Sid, Varun, Ranveer etc.

So basically what is it that works for him everytime?

Is it his hardworking attitude?
Is it because he is a good dancer?
Is it because he reinvents himself from time to time ?
Is it because he is really a good actor?
Is it because girls are mad at him?
or is he overrated?
or did he just get LUCKY?

By the way I like him 😉 but sometimes I hate his films.🥱

Is it because he is a good dancer? That gives him plus points. He is mostly known for his dancing skills.
Is it because he reinvents himself from time to time? Well, you have to give it to him ... even if his movies doesn't work in BO ... he sure does that. He is never been in a comfort zone. That's why the negative BO results.
Is it because he is really a good actor? If nothing else, Haider proved it.
Is it because girls are mad at him? 😳
or is he overrated? We are not talking about Ranbir here.
or did he just get LUCKY? His work speaks for itself.

@red

Well... yeah that definitely something praiseworthy about him. 😊😊

As for as his female fan following is concerned... it is increasing exponentially with his age.😆

Shahid Kapoor is anything but overrated. He doesn't have the crazed following the superstars do so people love him for his work. Despite his underwhelming BO record, directors approach him for his talent. He is decent looking, a very versatile actor, and as a dancer he is in a league of his own. Every actor male or female who is known for their dancing skills have a particular style they excel in but he is the most diverse that way.

I think it definitely helps that he debuted as a standalone. Everyone else is either a senior or junior. He isn't as isolated as HR because Ranbir, Imran, Ranveer are close to him age-wise but since they're his juniors in the industry so he has more body of work. Even in his flops, his performances have always been noticed. He is also the last actor to have come at a time when a bad streak at the BO wasn't a dealbreaker. So yes, in that regard it's luck as well. He was allowed to make (and learn from) more mistakes than his juniors.

I know, his situation's kinda of bizarre. Because he started his career at a very young age he gets allotted with every kind of group.

Agree with you.
He gets films based on his talent and potential, not because of just mass appeal or hype.

He is definitely standalone as he never had a proper rival.

Plus there is something about him that makes him different from others.

I think he's a very talented actor but sometimes he sells himself short. I think he's taken some roles just for the sake of having that box office success and R Rajkumar was the only one that sort of paid off.

He's mostly known as a great dancer so for the longest time that was his main thing. Intentionally or unintentionally. But I think post Haider he's being looked at as a great actor. He's sort of made it into the big league with this one. Time will tell if he can maintain this momentum long enough to put himself in the big league permanently.

Well of course. Even I didn't like him bacl then. He was young with a pretty face, a good dancer ... nothing much to talk about. So the dancing bit was his highlight. With time he has really picked himself up.

Shahid doesn't have any 'contemporaries' so to speak. I really don't think he is considered in the same league as Ranbir, etc at least not by the industry. Just because people consider him for the same roles and he works with the same heroines doesn't mean he is pitted with them. 2010-2012 were the three exceedingly bad years he had and it didn't pull him down like it would've done to others.

When he started, he was the only hero in his 20s which worked to his advantage and was already established by the time others his age began their career. He was basking in newfound success of Vivah and JWM when Ranbir and Imran debuted. Then came Kaminey, Mausam didn't do well but kept his performance kept him relevant, and then of course we have RR and Haider as commercial and critical+commercial successes respectively.

There is logic to why he is as established as he is, it is not something beyond understanding, but I don't think his case will be repeated.
