Throwing the baby with the bathwater

If every discussion thread is closed because some members are going astray, it is not fair to close the topic itself. It is like throwing the baby with the bathwater. The offending members can be banned for one month or 2 weeks. It is easy to close a thread just by making a very provocative response.
Some may just want to close everything. Sabotage. This maybe done even by Trojan horses who are planted.

Everytime I make a post I have a feeling that usual suspects will start playing and try to close the topic, thread.

This is like stifling genuine ones who are interested in making posts.

Can one have the option of not having comments at all because the mischief starts at the comments section. One thing leads to another thing.

I cannot even be more forthcoming due to fear of severe backlash.

Why cant one moderate one's own topic by removing provocative content so as to keep the thread clean?

Thread creators should not be given the ability to delete or edit posts on that thread because that can easily be abused.

However as far as I know, if the creator of a particular thread wants is closed, they can request a moderator to close it. For example at https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/nach-baliye-7/4367243/upen-karishma-escape-fatal-car-accident one of the moderators closed the thread and posted the following message:

Topic closed as per TM request.
