Chapter 7

'Anni why did you do that?' Maan asked Anni one fine day, it has only been a day with Geet gone but left like a century for some. Both Anni and Maan were living in agony, Anni because her love was away and soon to marry her friend Geet, Maan well he didn't know himself but the thought of Geet with Dev riled him up.

'His marrying someone else' she spoke in a whisper, Maan was about to ask who forgetting entirely about Anni and her love interest.

'Dev, Dev Singhania' she repeated without paying much attention to her brother who realised that it was the same boy that Anni went into depression for and even tried suicide, did that boy still hold so much power over his baby sister? He was annoyed that she tried the same thing again for him, whoever he was will pay for it big time for making him and his sister suffer.

'They're getting married bhai, and I can't do nothing about it' she cried hugging him tight, Maan was about to ask who but right then he realised Dev was Geet's fiance, was she in love with that Dev? This only infuriated him more, both his women were after the same man.

'bhai if he marries Geet then what should I do, main mar jaunga uski bina bhai' she admitted not knowing the effect her words were having on her brother.

'And what if I get him for you?' he stated in determination making Anni look his way, was it possible? Could the man she spent dreaming about for so many years finally be hers, was it even possible?

'They love each other bhai, it's not possible' her rational side got the better of her although her heart desperately wanted Geet and Dev to separate

'I love her' she heard him say, once the words exited his mouth he realised that he did fall for her and deeply at that. But she was too bothered about how Dev loved Geet and it isn't possible to break them apart.

'Can't you hear, I love Geet and no one, absolutely no one can take her away from me' he said in anger getting irritated with Anni joining his Geet's name with that Dev.

'Finally your brother has fallen in love aur tum. You should be happy Anni' Anni immediately congratulated him for his new found feelings and both the brother and sister struck a plan to separate the other two so that Maan can have Geet and Anni can be happy with Dev. Neither bothered what the other two wanted nor did they care. The Khurrana's got what they liked be it clothes, cars or their love.

'Geet I missed you so much' Maan said hugging Geet shocking both Geet and Dev in the process.

'Oh sorry I wasn't meant to do that in front of him was I' he said innocently before walking off, Dev too walked out the mansion in annoyance. Geet couldn't understand what Maan was up to, her innocent mind was thinking that maybe he was relieved to see her for Pari's sake and she explained the same to Dev on the exact night. But Dev just put down the demand for her to stay away from Maan, she was only away for two days and Pari had survived all these years without Geet then what's the difference now, Dev argued. Poor Geet felt stretched between the two but said nothing, she decided to listen to her fiance and stay aware from Maan but Maan never let that happen. For next few days Maan held her hand or waist at every given opportunity, he even shifted Pari to his bedroom so she had to see him first in the morning while dressing Pari and last thing at night when reading her a bedtime story. It was not like Geet didn't oppose, of course she did but Maan warned to tell Brij about how Geet was failing in her duty because of her new love Dev. Geet knew Brij left Pari in her care and honestly she didn't want to disappoint him, after ages she was close to her brother and she didn't want to lose that so she agreed although her mind screamed a no. She even told Dev about it, who didn't like it one bit.

On the other hand Anni increased her advancements towards Dev, they went dinners together and once even the cinema, he had actually come for Geet but since Geet was with Maan he decided to take Anni instead as he was unaware that Geet had gone to pick up Pari from school and Maan accompanied her but Anni twisted reality hoping soon both would go their own way leaving the path open for the brother-sister duo. Life seemed to get completed for Geet, Dev and her ended up arguing frequently due to Maan and Geet also accused him for being narrow minded when he himself was spending more time with Anni then her. In all this Maan was having gala of a time, he had open access to Geet and he took every advantage of it. He knew Geet thought nothing of it since she was too innocent.

'Geet I don't like his closeness to you one bit. I don't like anyone touching anything that belongs to me especially you since your my fiance' Dev stressed the last bit hoping to make her understand, he knew Geet was innocent and didn't understand the mentality of a man especially someone like Maan. He spent the next hour explaining to her how he feels when he sees Maan near her particularly holding onto her. So Geet promised to stop all this. Now when she thought about it, it couldn't be an accident because it was way too frequent.

'Pari beta we're going back to your bedroom tonight' Geet said without looking at Maan who was seething in anger and frustration, everyone listened to his instructions and she was included in that everyone.

'Geet what are you doing?' he asked once Pari walked out towards her room

'I'm sorry but I can't do this'

'Do what?' he shouted

'This' she said pointing her fingers towards his bed, his furniture, his room

'What do you think I'm stupid, I know what you're up to? Maan ji this isn't right' she was now shouting at him which shocked Maan, no one ever raised their voices at him but he did nothing and let her finish

'and one more thing stop touching me. I'm another man's women and soon to be wife' she stated but before she could step out he hurled her to the wall and placed his hands on each side. When she continued to move, he blocked her movements by placing his body on top of her's. Geet was now scared and intimidated. She was shocked at his audacity and fear gripped her once again.

'Listen to me Geet, I'm giving you a chance to leave Dev for me or you'll live to regret it' he threated, Geet claiming herself to be someone else's broke the last dam and anger got the better of him. Then again when didn't he act on impulse or anger?

'I will never leave him Mr Maan Singh Khurrana, he is my fiance' she shouted pushing him off her and ran out his bedroom, without turning back to see how she pushed Maan into the table and hurt his hand in the provess but most of all how she hurt his heart.

'Dev it's not what it looks like' she shouted seeing Dev walk out in anger. Only two days back Geet had warned Maan but he was at it again but this time it was too much to handle. Geet was sleeping on her bed due to a bad headache, in her pain she never realised when Maan lay beside her and that's how Dev saw them, on the same bed, under the same duvet. She ran after him hoping to catch him and make him understand.

'Papa said I will never regret this' he said pointing at himself and her

'But I do, my father was wrong to think you are perfect for me. You are just' he left it uncompleted, too choked to complete his sentence but Geet saw it in his eyes. She saw the disgusted look he threw her way and then he dropped the ring on the floor too ashamed to even touch her. It was all over and Dev never gave her a chance to clear her image, he thought she was unfaithful and gave his verdict without her justification. She fell to the ground feeling immense pain for her broken engagement, for the accusation lunged at her character and for her failed attempt to make her father's dream a reality. Dev left her, left leaving her broken. He was the first man in her life, the first person to make a place for himself in her heart, the first man she fell in love with but Maan stole all that from her. Everything was ruined, her life, her engagement and her father's oath. Maan stood there at the top of the stairs watching her cry, fall and curl into a ball. Anni also witnessed the breakdown of the girl who they just ruined for their own selfish needs. The girl who she called a friend for her one sided love. Was this love? If love was about only achieving then Anni and Maan were definitely in love, but wasn't love about caring and giving then how can it be love with both their interest hurt beyond repair. Anni immediately ran after Dev, wanting to be the shoulder he cries on. Wanting to enter the gates of his heart before he closes it. Maan however walked to his room, feeling happy that he managed to break Dev away from Geet. His sister's happiness depended on it and come what may, he would get everything his sister wished for even if it belonged to someone else. He felt no remorse over his actions, he just assassinated a girl's character and her hope but did he care, no. The same girl he claimed to love, but his love didn't fit the definition of love. Now did it, if he claimed to hate her then it would make sense but love, that was such a strong lovely emotion to be used to describe his love. Had he loved her, then he would let her live happily even if it's away from him, had it been love he would have protected her dignity with his life and had it been love he would have been with her now, at this moment of need.

Note: ok that was my shot at poetry, not so great right; I thought so lol. But seriously hope you liked this part since it took me ages, crying and plotting not my style. I'm more of a mummy's pet and daddy's angel type of girl lol. Sorry for the long long wait, but this update is longer 2000 words guys. Hope it makes up for it!
