Can Guddu Rangeela bail out Fox Star?

For Star Studios, a lot hinges on the fate of its latest release, Guddu Rangeela, at the box office. Film after film, produced by the studio, has floundered at the box office, and industry insiders tell us that there is more than just plain bad luck that is at play.
Fox Star's unlucky run began with 2013's Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola (Vishal Bhardwaj) and Bullett Raja (Tigmanshu Dhulia) " both of which tanked. Then in 2014 they had an even bigger disaster with Humshakals " although Bang Bang did make up for it somewhat.
In 2015, however, there has been no saving grace: Khamoshiyan, Hamari Adhuri Kahani and Bombay Velvet, have all flopped. Now, the studio's hopes are pinned on the business of Guddu Rangeela (directed by Subhash Kapoor) and later, Karan Johar's Brothers.
An industry source tells us, "Fox Star has been green-lighting one disastrous projects after another. But a small project like Guddu Rangeela, with its subsidised production costs and no stars to pay hefty fees to, could be the one that turns the tide for the studio."
