Chapter 13
Restless Hearts
Next morning brought in hope for better day then previous one. Hope for having all things sorted and settled.
Raghav freshened up early in the morning preparing himself for the day to come. Sammy came in greeting him, as he gave him side hug and placed couple of filed on the bed. "Are you done with packing?" Sammy asked him. Raghav just nodded still lost, as he spoke, "Almost... We have planned shopping for the day as well right?" he confirmed. Sammy replied to him, "Yeah, we are but all the files and clothes needs to be packed, we better get hurrying up... or else like every time it will be chaos...!" Raghav agreeing to his words got up and started arranging all he can, yet his thoughts weren't in the direction. Things didn't seem right to him. He felt lost. Sammy also added, "Also please make list of things we need to buy... today, so that we are sure and do not waste much of time there..." Raghav also agreed to this, as once taking out his clothes and stuff out from closet he had placed next to his bags. "I will be back, but remember we need to take care of weight as well, don't overload the luggage," Sammy left giving the pieces of information, as Raghav sat on the bed, frowning. He took the note pad from the table and started thinking about what would be good as gift for everyone in new York. Mostly he never would have taken anything special for all, might have taken couple of things for their own house but this time, he had wish to take a lot more... for everyone special there...
Noting down couple of things, "What all do I want from India with me there?" thought Raghav while holding his pen in hand... as smiling face of Kalpana flashed by his thought. Images of their journey in train as they stood by the door right before reaching Vashi, Raghav smiled and then frowned... "I guess that's all the things I need ..." thinking he kept pen and notepad aside... "Phewww just one more day and I will leave this place and country and everything related to it..." He said to himself walking towards window and looking down.
Kalpana had reached the lobby of his hotel. Kalpana was now all normal and at peace seeing her mother being strong enough and overcoming the truth that Pakya will not be coming anytime soon though she continued praying for it. Reaching the reception she asked lady on the desk to inform Raghav about her arrival and she would be by the taxi.
Raghav on receiving the call just nodded. He still was unsure about her mood, "Yesterday seemed to be very bad mood day for her... and didn't even speak to me..." he thought ... "So now today would be my turn to just ignore her... like she did yesterday... good for her to taste her own medicine... For her behaviour yesterday, but by evening, we all will just have some round arounds in the city and celebrate for success as well ... bid farewell for ourselves" thought Raghav with smile.
Smiling and happily Raghav made his way downstairs to lobby... Sammy joined him confirming the time table in form of it's checklist, "So we head to final meeting in convention centre followed by lunch with khuranas, head for shopping and come back for packing atlast in night we head for dinner and tomorrow morning bid bye to the city as we head back to New York." Going back should have been something to make Raghav happy but it didn't... yet he carried the same rough attitude as he had planned till they reached taxi.
Kalpana greeted both of them good morning, while Raghav just settled down in the taxi without proper reply, and unaffected by his rude gesture Kalpana too headed for her front seat. Kalpana focused on driving her vehicle till the convention centre, without uttering single word during their journey. It was once when Sammy had a call from Prem to inform him, that he has reached the destination, and is waiting for him. Raghav simply nodded his head on receiving this information from Sammy. Raghav looked at Kalpana, "You need to make it quick Ms. Jadhav as I do not like being late for my meetings," expecting some taunt, which he had planned to ignore. But to his surprise, Kalpana simply changed the gears to speed up the taxi to maximum speed limit allowed and within 10 minutes they had reached meeting hall. Raghav and Sammy got down, and greeted Prem, who guided them to hall of meeting... Before going back, Raghav glanced back to look at Kalpana, who appeared serious and stern with no other expression reflecting her inner side. This strict appearance of Kalpana was not going well with Raghav, though he had planned to be the same for day to make her taste her own medicine. He was not feeling good about it, not just because his plan was failing, but yet today she is being very stubborn like other day, and not so normal self. "Sir," Prem called bringing him back on his track as they walked ahead.
Kalpana settled down in the taxi, her mind is yet completely blank, though she was over "being affected" by words of her brother on phone previous day, she was still not in her state... "You all Jadhavs are filled with the same cheap mentality, of disloyalty and ungratefulness," recalled Kalpana his bitter words, and tightened grip on the steering wheel in front of her, "I really have no clue what do these people think about their employees or people who work under them," pondered Kalpana as she related to what Raghav said to how Sahil had accused her father, "You people have no respect for your employers! When you have to come for taking money, you come anyhow in any condition, be it taking advance for any reason," were words from almost a week back, "cheap mentality, of disloyalty and ungratefulness," were few other words kept ringing in ears, as she closed her eyes gulping down all the anger she had collected all the while. "My actions will shine brighter than my words, Mr. Singhaniya! I had enough of your rudeness towards me," she determined as she placed her taxi in parking, and recalled her day when she was purposely guided to be hungry throughout the day and him misguiding the routes and creating blunders making them lose their way.
Meeting had been over by almost 11.40, as they headed towards the parking. Kalpana started her car when she heard announcement of her taxi.
Raghav tried smiling from the other side seeing her coming. Kalpana stopped the car in front of them to allow themselves to come in the car and settle, "What would be good place for eating around here?" enquired Raghav, trying to get Kalpana speaking up. However as she took the car out of parking space and still didn't answer, Prem took the lead "Sir, Hotel Oberoi, it's nearby and would be perfect." Raghav nodded still looking at Kalpana, trying to study her. Prem smiled and looked at Kalpi, "Kalpana drive there please..." Kalpi simply nodded her head with faint smile towards Prem and took the U-Turn to head towards the hotel. Kalpana halted the car right at the door of huge hotel, where Raghav, Sammy and Prem headed. Restlessness had already begun to creep in Raghav. While Sammy and Prem chattered and laughed a little, Raghav was lost in some other arena, which didn't go unnoticed by Prem and Sammy, as they tried talking to him in bits and pieces but couldn't keep up long intellectual conversation with him today.
Raghav excused himself under the pretext of phone call, while Sammy and Prem looked at him go, then they looked at food and thought of giving him his space. Raghav went outside, and tried spotting the car, he saw Kalpana engrossed in a magazine she held in her hand, and thought of speaking to her but... "what? What will I speak to her about...?" wondered Raghav when he received a call. It was Maya, Raghav smiled as he invited her over to the place and then head for some small shopping time. "Kalpana" he called out, Kalpana looked at him, with almost no change in her expression, "Maya wants to come here and she is at some place, called Trivia Hotel." Kalpana looked at him, "Take a right from Jarkhand road and one left from marine road, come straight, and this place is on right," completed Kalpana and went back to her reading. Raghav after directing Maya completed the call and looked back at Kalpana with smile, "Thanks," he expressed. "Welcome," came the instant response from Kalpana, who didn't even move her eyes away from the page. Raghav was bugged with her ignorance, as he had strong itch in his hand to take that magazine and put it away, and bring her attention only on him. "So which would be good shopping place we are visiting," asked Raghav trying to restart the conversation, Kalpana rolled her eyes, but before she can respond, Raghav got another call, as he walked off to little distance to attend the call. Kalpana got down from the bonnet on her feet and walked towards right side of front seat. She settled in the driver seat pushing it back and closing her eyes. Raghav completed his call and turned back towards taxi to find Kalpana sleeping on her seat. Raghav frowned, knowing this could be done purposely to avoid any further communication. Raghav started walking back and seeing the same Kalpana opened her eyes.
Raghav returned back inside the hotel disappointed, "Raghav, finally here?" teased Sammy. Raghav looked at him as if not interested, "Yeah, Maya will be reaching here in some time and then we head for shopping," confirmed Raghav.
Soon after Maya joined them and completed the lunch all of them came outside, and settled down in the taxi, Raghav looked at Kalpana through the mirror trying to see if something was indeed bothering her, as equally her silence and ignorance was pinching him. "So Kalpana," called Sammy cheerfully, "we need to head for some good shopping of specifically Indian things... where should it best?" completed the question. "Sir," Kalpana started with utter formality in her tone, "As you tell me, I will take you to any place you wish to shop from." Sammy was confused yet as Maya continued in her same casual tone, "Yeah, but you can guide us best... I mean, we all are guests of the city!" Kalpana politely gave a small visible smile, "I have done my best to guide throughout my city throughout the week," maya smiled listening to her, "But I guess best I can do is suggest Nakashtra Mall, as per your taste, however final decision of shopping and place would be by you, for you know your requirements the best. I cannot assure you that you may find each and everything you might have listed at any particular place." Sammy and Maya looked at each other, while Raghav begun to angrily glare at her, "Sure, take us there... I trust your judgements Kalpana," replied Sammy. Maya settled back, "Is everything alright with her?" whispered Maya. "I don't know," came reply from Sammy. Prem looked at Kalpana, knowing for sure something bothers her and decided to speak to her once they reach mall.
Soon after drive of 25 minutes they reached mall, and all the while Raghav had his eyes set on viewing Kalpana from back, he tried seeing her through mirror several times, but nothing could be figured out from her focused eyes. All of them, except Prem got down, while Prem just excused himself saying, "He has nothing in particular to buy." Raghav was not really happy hearing this, however with pull of Maya and Sammy he joined them in. He once again turned back to see Kalpana, as she got down from her taxi, and went to Prem, he couldn't hear the conversation, but Kalpana's ignorance towards him and attention on Prem was still not going well with Raghav, in-spite of having confirmed assumption from Prem about his and Kalpana's relation. As the reached top floor and Raghav can still see Kalpana walking very slowly towards Prem, he handed the list to Sammy and ordered him to take all he can find as he has some work. Sammy watched on confused, as Raghav headed back in the lift after getting in. "She will have to talk to me!" thought Raghav
Kalpana walked towards Prem, "Prem, I feel you should go in with them. They might need some help to spot certain things and shop!" suggested Kalpana. Prem turned to face her, "Had you been the same Kalpana, who was 2 days back, you would have joined them to guide, just like you had while travelling by train or bus and not just preferred to be aloof!" retort Prem with a tone demanding an explanation. Kalpana was left lost at his claim, she tried looked down here and there couple of time, "I... I am not well Prem..." Prem looked at her and gave small, "Ya right!" smile... "So what's up with you? Is your head paining?" sarcastically asked Prem and looked down, "or is your leg hur..." his words faded seeing a bandaid on both her feet. Kalpana looked down at them... Prem looked at her feeling embarrassed, "I am sorry Kalpana..." Raghav had reached in nick of time to speak to Kalpana, "Sorry Kalpana, what happened to your legs?" he asked with very much of concern. Raghav too then noticed white cloth on her feet. Kalpana assured Prem by placing her hand on his shoulder while he glanced from her leg to face, "I am fine Prem, this is because of too much of peddling with load for long time...!!" replied Kalpana calmly!
"What ?????" screamed Prem, "What were you doing?" asked in loud tone.
"Actually Prem, yesterday while going to Palghar, and suddenly car went out of fuel so..." Before she can complete the statement, they heard a voice from back, "Kalpana, can't you just take care!" asked Raghav almost panicking, as he came to Kalpana, who was taken aback seeing him there, and Prem watched on puzzled. Kalpana looked on as he started bending, "Did you visit the doctor? What's the use of being super woman for hurting yourself so much? Which victory did you achieve by doing any of such circus stunt?" were questions Raghav shot trying to have her leg and trying to examine them. Kalpana jerked her leg away before he can, "Sir, You need not worry, I am fine!" answered Kalpana, "and it doesn't look good when guests or employer touch feet in any ways of the employees!" answered Kalpana with glint of anger visible in her eyes! While Raghav stood there stunned at her reaction, "It's better that you go ahead and enjoy your shopping time rather than worrying about me...!!" she continued and a single drop of tear made it's way from her right eye... she continued shouting, as Raghav didn't budge from there, "JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! DON'T YOU GET IT!". Raghav could sense strong displeasure in her bitter tone towards him. She wiped it off, with her hand and turned to go and sit in the car... Prem came out of the trance after seeing the whole thing, "I guess she is tired, she will be fine after a break, let her relax." Prem suggested, as Raghav looked on hurt. "Wasn't she speaking to you calmly Mr. Kapoor?" Raghav asked blaming him somewhere, Prem just nodded, "Sir, I am her friend too since long she had joined my college as junior," explained Prem. Prem pulled him, "Come will show you several good shops in the mall! And Raghav went along the force of pull while he still kept staring the car parked.
Kalpana was in car tears beaming out finally she was feeling light after much needed outburst. She wiped her tears off and closed her eyes breathing heavily to vent out remaining frustration, while Raghav just robotically walked along with all in shopping mall, still trying to figure out Kalpana. His restlessness was now almost reaching it's peak, as couple of tears for the first time made it's way out from his eyes too. Her silence and ignorance was pinching him. He couldn't figure out why it affected so much, BUT fact is it DID! He excused himself as he headed towards washroom, to wash his face. "Just leave me alone!" her words were piercing his heart...!! He wanted to assure her and help her out, but was feeling lost...
Her heart was equally pinning as she still recalled his panicky state and her outburst as he tried to help her. "It's better to just maintain complete distance, than to be hurt over and over again!" thought Kalpana, as wiped off tear from her eyes, "Thankfully he leaves tomorrow and this torture ends!"
Precap: Raghav stomps inside to head to bar irritated as he pours the alcohol in the glass, "SHE IS STILL IGNORING ME!" he shouted!! Gulping down the alcohol he had just poured
