Which one is more powerful?

It's pretty safe to say that they are the biggest production houses of bollywood today as stars still would give anything to be in their projects.

Both are known for making similar films- big budget with superstars. They both like to flex their muscle on distributors and other small producers- hijack big festival dates for the release of their films. They both are comfortable working with limited number of actors who are known to belong to their camps.

There was a time when YRF used to rule btown, but post 2007 it crashed badly only to rise again with ETT and D3, since then they are delivering interesting films every year with moderate box office success most of the time.

On the other hand, Dharma production has been a constant rise in popularity, churning out hit films almost every year. Hat's off to Kjo for single handedly making Dharma into such a powerful PH. They also score brownie points for giving so many new directors a chance to make it big in the industry.

Both Kjo and Aditya Chopra are known for backing their Protgs- Anushka, Sushant, Parineeti, Ranveer for Yashraj- Siddhartha, Varun, Alia for Dharma. I think Dharma score better in this department too. Yashraj signs three film contact with new faces they launch. Does Kjo do the same??? Alia's and Varun's second and Siddhartha's third films are with different production house right??

Yashraj- Fan starring SRK.

Dharma- Kapoor and Sons, Brothers remake, ADHM, Shuddhi, Shandar.

Yashraj gave me DDLJ and VeerZaara .. Dharma is also fine they gave me KKHH ..But nothing beats DDLJ and VZ for me 😊

There was a time yrf was great banner but now it all drain. Dharma lately taken.

I'm not sure if YRF really backs up their protgs. Certainly not in the way that Dharma does. Though a lot of that has to do with KJo being a very public person and promoting his stars himself. Aditya Chopra is recluse. And if we believe the rumors that he asked Parineeti Chopra to take a break then he's a horrible mentor.

Adi Chopra might be a good businessman, but he seems to not connect with his stars, not in the way that Karan does. I can only imagine what the one on one conversation was like if later on the likes of Anushka and Arjun came out and said Adi told them they were not good looking. And then there was his demand a few years ago that all his heroines become size zeros.

Financially I think YRF is still more powerful because don't they also distribute movies? Or am I totally wrong in this aspect of their business.

Yashraj has always made better films-more successful commercially and also critically. But their marketing is really bad. Dharma scores in the marketing department. YRF proteges like Anushka, Ranveer and SSR have been able to find good work outside YRF. The same cannot be said of Dharma proteges-though its not clear if this is because KJo wants to control the careers of his proteges or because they dont get work.

Dharma is good for any star though. They promote their stars well. YRF has now become a career killing machine for new stars.
