Then why doesn't govt clamp down on these foreign owned news channels. Many of them have been actively involved in sedition. Are we a sovereign country or what.

I think all the news channel are in hurry of showing controversial news first for the sake of trp and profits. There is nothing wrong with foreign owned news channel but it should present unbiased views rather then please some masses.

Yes , if media stops sensationalising the stuff then the majority of the controversial issues will not remain so controversial . Being an indian by birth and by heart , for my whole life , i have never felt or faced any problems in my day to day life be it religion wise, community wise or integration wise but then its the media which keeps putting these things in your mind and forces you to think otherwise by reporting nonsense stuff all the time.

These Valmikis had collectively built their houses on govt land. And they themselves wanted to convert to Islam so that their encroachments would not be demolished. I suppose UP sarkar is famous for appeasing a section of the population.
I don't know why govt always allows people to occupy the land and build pucca properties before they suddenly wake up from their slumber. Let these stupid Valmikis convert. I never heard of such morons.

To be honest, religion has often been a matter of utility.

I refuse to believe that religion can be separated from vested interests.

If some find that another religion is better, grants better status or ensures protection, begets benefits etc then they will convert.

On other hand many promote religion just for sake of leadership, becoming self styled protector, representative or expert on religion and getting followers.

I don't see anything wrong with conversion. Constitution gives freedom to practise, propagate any faith. Only forced conversions are wrong. Voluntary ones, I don't mind.

However I wonder when will people rise above identity politics in India? I hate everything reduced to religion, region, caste or gender.

Religion ought to be strictly personal. It shouldn't heavily influence public discourse.

Had it not been a big deal, nobody would have done juvenile things such as threatening to convert!
