This is today's headline in Times of India

"RAMPUR: More than 800 Valmikis, fighting civic authorities to save their houses from demolition in Rampur, "converted" to Islam on Tuesday. Coming good on a threat they had issued a week ago when they said they have no option but to change their faith, they chose Ambedkar's 124th birth anniversary to embrace Islam."

Why is some community inclined toward conversion of religion ? Does it changes personality or mindset after conversion ? Is it just shortcut to increase population ?

Humans are generally egoistic so they want everyone to like what they like.
and I guess it applies to religion too.
If there is only one religion, humans will divide it into various religious denominations etc but of the same order.
Personally I prefer various religions, so we can get the best from each. Also we have greater privacy and less people will bother us about attending prayers, temples, mosques or churches.

One thing I understand is each religion helps anyone to improve himself/herself in all the ways. That is true of all the religions. We know we had great saints in all the religions.

But then in this World, there is a lot of darkness (suffering, chaos, fear etc.) A lot of people don't love others or they don't get proper love. That is the way of this world because we know the value of light only when there is darkness. Everyone needs an opportunity to bring out the light within. Interestingly everyone has light within. But only a few people choose to bring out that light. Every religion helps us in this quest. But in every religion, the person who likes to shine the light within him/her has to do his/her homework. And the number of persons who guide us to bring out the light are very few.

Unfortunately majority of the other persons believe in a lot of lies. Even parents tell many lies to their children. And these people find, they have no way to alleviate the sufferings they face. Every human being tries one way or the other to remove the sufferings in his life. There are some people who prey on others' sufferings in this situation. Some religions take this opportunity to show better life to these people convert to their religion. Will they get better life, if they converted their religion. A big No! But then that is the way, things are in the life.

People convert their religion for money or benefits or to escape the laws. In India specially convent schools, teachers gets additional bonus and extra salary for changing their religion to Christianity. Student sees such thing happening everyday but no one will raise any voice for such acts. Other examples celebrity like Dharmedra and Mahesh Bhatt choose to convert so that they can keep 2 wives.

Currently, five Indian states " Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh " have anti-conversion laws in place to prevent forced conversions. The laws do not ban conversions so long as they are voluntary.

Then why doesn't govt clamp down on these foreign owned news channels. Many of them have been actively involved in sedition. Are we a sovereign country or what.

As far as my understanding is that they did not convert , they were protesting that they will convert themselves and protest has ended now with them still being Valmikis, even the cleric whom they themselves invited to convert them didn't turn up .
