Chapter 7 - The Play Of Destiny

Recap - Mainawati has decided to meet up with Suryabhan's parent to talk about Jodha and his rishta. Meanwhile Jodha is having a tough time figuring out what Tahni is to Jalal. As for Jalal, he finally decided to give Jodha and him a chance with the idiom 'take it or leave it' in mind. Jalal broke this news to his best friend Tahni, who was happy for him and half way through the conversation Jodha came in asking for his signature on a document. As she was about to exit, he stopped her saying ... ...

"Miss Sharma, I think I'm in love with you." Followed by a gasp from Jodha and a thud from the file that she dropped.

What just happened?!

Jodha was having a hard time deciding whether her boss really did confess to her or was she dreaming about it? Jodha, you have really lost it!!! How can you not know if you are dreaming or not?! Brain jammed. What?! I'm having a brain jam right now that's why I can't think. Seriously, you expect me to believe that?! Fine, why don't you pinch yourself to check whether you are dreaming or not. Great idea!

Jodha pinched herself but she could not feel a thing. I don't feel anything!!! What does that mean? Is it bad?! No, that's good. That means that you dreamt about it. Oh and Jodha please do consider going to a psychiatrist to check on yourself. Jodha was a little upset as this was all a dream but she was brought back when...

"Miss Sharma, are you okay?" Jalal asked concerned of Jodha's behavior.

"Ye... yes sir I am fine. I just... I am sorry I should... Excuse me." Jodha stammered and quickly bend down, picked up the file she dropped earlier and hurried to the door when he stopped her again.

"Miss Sharma, can I get a cup of coffee?"

"Yes of course sir."

"Make it..."

"Black - with two cubes of sugar. I know sir." She said with a smile before he could finish his sentence. He smiled back which made her feel butterflies in her tummy.

After Jodha left his office Jalal let out the breath he was holding all this while. Never had he known that he could hold his breath for so long and his heart would be beating so frantically at the same time. To say that he was shocked would be an understatement as he does not know how he feels. Yes he was shocked that he actually blurred out that he likes Jodha just like that. No warning, nothing!

He had just realize how he really felt for her last night and he was planning to take some time, after all he know her for only four or five days? And to be in love in just this little time seems crazy. He had pictured himself in a restaurant with Jodha where he would hand her a bouquet of flowers and confess his feelings to her.

Damn it Jalal! Seriously you had to choose this exact moment to confess when she came to get your signature on a document?! But I couldn't help it she looked so mesmerizing in that pastel purple Anarkali suit with her silky mane left down just like the first time I met her. So you went ahead and confessed?! I didn't realize what I was doing until it was too late. Of course you didn't! Now I know how a face palm situation feels like because I could really give myself one right now. He had thought to himself when Jodha was having her own battle within herself.

But why didn't Jodha say anything? Wouldn't the normal reaction be a slap on one of my cheeks? Could she have not heard me? He had wondered when she excused herself after picking up the file. He called out to her and asked for a cup of coffee hoping to somehow know what is going on in her mind. When she interrupted him and said how he liked his coffee with a smile he couldn't help smiling back as he felt that maybe, just maybe things will be fine.

A while later Jodha came in with Jalal's coffee. She set the cup on his working desk and was about to excuse herself when Jalal said.

"I am sorry for what I said earlier Miss Sharma, I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable."

"About what sir?" She asked slightly confused.

"I said that I was... I mean I am in love with you." He repeated cautiously.

That was not a dream?! Her eyes grew wide and replied. "I... I... I don't know what to say sir."

"Oh no, no Miss Sharma, I am not asking you to give me your answer right now. You can take as much time as you need, there's no pressure. I just thought I should tell you how I feel that's all."

"Bu... But sir, ho... how can that be? What I am trying to say is that... Me and you sir? How can...?" She stammered.

"Why Miss Sharma? Can I not fall in love with you?! Am I not worthy of you?"

"No, no sir, I didn't mean it that way!"

"Look Miss Sharma, I know I am a man with many flaws, I am not saying that I am perfect. I also know that I have a very colourful' past. Of course you could be wondering whether I have a hidden motive behind saying all this but I assure you Miss Sharma that this is no facade. I am attracted to you Miss Sharma and honestly if you ask me how can I be so sure that this is love, then I can only say that I never felt like this for anyone else, you are the first one Miss Sharma."

"You misunderstood sir, what I meant was that you are from the upper class and I am from a simple middle class family. Even if I do reciprocate your feelings sir, how can it work between the two of us?"

"If you do feel the same way as me Miss Sharma, then we will work it out. It doesn't matter which class you are from as long as you are there by my side, everything will be fine Miss Sharma. The two of us will work it out no matter what. That is if you feel the same way."

"B... But..."

"Miss Sharma, I give you my word if we are to have a relationship, it will be solely to know one and other. It will not be as the ones I had in the past. If you want I will not initiate any physical contact too." (By physical contact Jalal meant holding hands, hugs and such so don't confuse it with physical relationship)

"I need some time sir. Excuse me." She said.

"Sure." He replied as his eyes followed her until she exited his office..

Jodha's house

"What am I going to do?! Am I in love with Mr. Muhammad? Should I say yes to him?" She asked her reflection in the mirror.

"Say something Jodha." She urged her reflection.

"What am I suppose to say." Her reflection asked.

"I don't know. Just say something, anything!

"Uhm, do you like Mr. Muhammad?"

"I... Yes I like him very much."

"In a romantic way?"

Jodha remembered the dream she had on the day she first met Jalal and blushed. (For those of you who can't remember which or what dream I am talking about kindly refer to chapter 2.) "Yes." She said with her eyes cast down for she felt shy.

"You should look at me." Jodha's reflection said. Jodha looked into the mirror and saw that her cheeks were rosy pink due to her blushing. Is this how I look like when I think of him? She thought and found herself blushing even more and a sweet smile crept on her lips as she realize that she might be feeling the same way as him.

"Did you get your answer?" Her reflection asked.

"I think so. But is he telling the truth? Could he be lying to me?"

"Don't you already know that he is not the type of guy who would lie about such a thing?"

"It's just that I don't know, maybe I am just nervous or something. I can't seem to believe that he loves me. "

"Jodha, you and I both know that he is a good guy. If he is not then he wouldn't have saved you the other day from that creep. I am not saying that you should let down your guard, I am just asking you to consider the fact that he could be really in love with you. You have to trust him a bit Jodha, so far he has not done anything to betray your trust and let's hope it remains like that, at least for now."

"So I should say yes' to dating him?"

"Yes you should."

"And what do I do if he betrays my trust?"

"What would do if he doesn't betray your trust?"

She chuckled and said "I should have faith in him. Shouldn't I?"

"Jodha if you are scared then don't agree, but remember he did say that there will not be any physical contact if the two of you date each other. At least he won't be the one initiating it. Why don't you just go ahead with it Jodha? See how far it takes you two, tell him you are not sure of your feelings and you would like to know if what you feel for him is indeed love or just mere infatuation. See what he says."

"Why am I so afraid that he might break my heart?"

"He won't Jodha."

"How can you be so confident?"

"You know the answer to it. It is just that you are blocking it and not seeing it. The time will come one day Jodha where you will realize that he is not going to betray you."

Jodha knows that Jalal is a good man despite his past affairs but there is just something deep down in her that gives her the fear that he may betray her someday. There is no valid reason behind that fear, maybe she is just thinking too much into it or maybe it is due to their differences that scares her. The only thing she knew for sure was that she loves him and she will trust him. Only time would tell how she will react to his betrayal if such a day should ever come.

The day of Sukanya's engagement

Sukanya's engagement was a grand affair with relatives and friend being part of it. Seeing her niece of 22 years getting engage brought tears to Mainawati's eyes as she thought of Sukanya as her own daughter. She couldn't help comparing her two daughters together, Sukanya and Jodha.

After getting her degree, Sukanya had told her parents that she wants to settle down just like any other Indian girls but her Jodha was different. Mainawati was making preparation to search for a ladka for Jodha even before Jodha finished her studies. By the time Jodha got her degree, Mainawati had chosen 3 ladkas for Jodha to choose from when Jodha broke the news that she would like to further her studies and do her masters.

Mainawati had initially objected and demanded that Jodha get settled down but Bharmal had somehow convinced Mainawati to let Jodha further her studies. After her masters, Jodha had landed herself with a job as a secretary in a company called JM Corp. and said that she wants to work for a few years before settling down. Mainawati tried every possible way to convince Jodha that she could still work after marriage but Jodha was adamant that she will not get married.

Thinking back now, Mainawati felt glad that Jodha had been stubborn and did not settle down as the ladka she is about to meet later is better than all the ones she had chosen for Jodha in the past. Maybe he is the one destined to be Jodha's better half that is why Jodha always avoided from Mainawati whenever she broached about her marriage.

A while later

Leela brought Suryabhan and his family over to where Mainawati and Bharmal was and introduced them.

"Namaste, Mainawati Ji, Bharmal Ji." Rekha and Suraj greeted.

"Namaste, Rekha Ji, Suraj Ji." Mainawati and Bharmal greeted back.

The elders greeted themselves whereas Suryabhan took Mainawati's and Bharmal's blessings. They sat down at a table and started to discuss about Suryabhan and Jodha's rishtha.

"Ji, we really like your daughter, Jodha for our son Surya."

"Ji, we too like your son, Surya for our Jodha."

"So, since it is a yes from both sides, can we consider that this rishtha is pakaa?"

"Yes of course."

"When can we have the engagement then?" Rekha asked.

"Ji, anytime you want." Mainawati replied.

"If it is possible I would like to take my soon-to-be bahu with me this instant but is it okay if we have the engagement after two months? Surya has to go on a business trip this weekend and he will come back after a month only and I would like it if both Jodha and Surya can meet up after he comes back?"

"Yes, yes of course."

"Then we will meet after a month then?"

"Yes Rekha Ji."

Before leaving Suryabhan took their blessings again and they asked him to take care of himself while on the business trip.

Next day, JM Corp.

Jodha went in Jalal's office and decided to tell him that she will go out with him as she likes him too though she doesn't tell him she loves him.

"Sir." She called out.

"Yes, Miss Sharma?" He asked.

"I... I would like to go out with you." She said, her cheeks growing hot.

"What?! I mean really?!" He asked. His eyes shone with excitement.

"Yes sir." She blushed.

"Miss Sharma, I don't think it is wise for you to call me sir is we are to be a couple." He teased.

"I could say the same for you too sir." She teased back and blushed even more when she realized what she said.

"Well then Miss Sharma, may I call you Jodha instead of Miss Sharma? Oh and you should call me Jalal instead of sir."

"No can do sir, you can call me Jodha however I will continue to call you sir or Mr. Muhammad. At least I will call you these if it is work related and I will call you by your name when we... When we go on our dates."

"That means you can call me by my name now can't you? We are alone and I would really like to hear you call out my name Jodha."

Hearing him call out her name in his deep husky voice sent chills down her spine. "I... I can't do that." She said.

"Why not?" He asked.

Knock Knock...

"Sir, please let me go. There is someone knocking on the door." Jalal held Jodha's hand stopping her for walking towards the door.

"No, first say my name then I will let you go."

"Sir please... J... Jalal please let me open the door." She pleaded.

"Okay." He let her go.

Jodha opened the door and found Nisha standing there.

"Nisha? Is there something you need?"

"Yes, there is something I need to talk to Mr. Muhammad about."

"Okay let me ask him if he is free to..."

"There's no need to do that." Nisha said and just walked in leaving Jodha baffled.

"Hello Mr. Muhammad, how are you?" Nisha greeted.

"Oh, Miss..."

"Nisha."

"Yes, Miss Nisha. What brings you here?"

"I... I came here to ask if Jodha is doing a good job."

"Yes she is."

"Are you sure sir, if you want I could take..." She tried to tell Jalal that she will take over Jodha as his secretary when he interrupted.

"Jodha is doing a good job as my secretary Miss Nisha. If that is all then I would like to get back to my work please."

"Oh yes of course sir. Excuse me." Nisha left.

"Nisha seems to be close to you."

"What?! Jodha, are you jealous?" He asked amused.

"No, I'm not!" She said and left him smiling at her reaction.

Evening

"Hey Jodha, are you done yet?"

"Oh Moti, sorry just give me a minute, I am almost done here."

Just then Jalal came out of the office and said "Oh Miss Sharma, good you are still here. I need you to draw up an agreement letter for the meeting with Mr. Kumar."

"Right now sir? Isn't the meeting the day after tomorrow?"

"It's an emergency. He won't be able to make it on that day so he will be here tomorrow."

"Okay sir, I will get to it right now." She replied and said to Moti "Sorry Moti, you go ahead I will take the bus home."

"It's okay Jodha, I can wait for you."

"No Moti, I will manage you go home."

"Don't worry Miss Moti, I will drop Miss Sharma off after work. You should go home now, it is not safe for a lady to go home late."

"Sir you?" Moti asked shocked.

"Why can't I drop Miss Sharma home?"

"No, no sir, of course you can. Uhm Jodha?" Moti looked at Jodha as though asking her if she will go home with Jalal.

"I will be fine Moti, don't worry."

Moti looked back and forth at Jalal and Jodha let out a sigh and went home saying. "Okay, bye."

"Bye."

*****************************************

"You do know that what you did back at the office was cheeky don't you?"

"What did I do?"

"Asking me to draw up an agreement for the meeting with Mr. Kumar saying that it's tomorrow when there is no change on the day of the meeting."

"So you did know that I lied." He smirked.

"Of course I do, I know your schedule Jalal. I am more worried about what will Moti think?"

"What do you mean?"

"Moti, I think she suspects something. Didn't you see the way she looked at me when you said that you will drop me off?"

"You are thinking too much about it Jodha."

"No, Moti is like a paparazzi. She knows it when something is fishy."

"We are here Jodha." He said as he pulled over her apartment entrance.

"Oh, thank you for the ride sir, I mean Jalal." She grabbed her things, was about to open the car door when he asked.

"Jodha, may I kiss you?"

Chapter 8

Few things to ask, Is the story moving too fast? Do tell me if it is going fast...

Also uhm, how do I ask this? So as you know in the prologue I did mention that Jodha is pregnant right? I was wondering if you guys want Akdha to be married or uhm for them to not be married? Do let me know in your comments ...

And guys if there are any particular scenes you would like to read about do let me know, I'll try to write about it ...
