instead promoting these kind of movies ,they discourage such sensitive content based movies and forced to face thrash hurdles even after box office test. Thats why such kind of movies are very rare in bollywood. Even the reason they are giving is hilarious just like in NH10 case😆 :

Words like randi, saali, kutti were cut. We were allowed to show the word "randi" scribbled on the wall, but nobody could speak it. We were told to tone down the fights in the honour killing scene and when Meera (Sharma) gets beaten up in the sarpanch's house. The second time when Meera sees the word "randi" written on the wall after her husband dies, we were asked to cut the shot from six seconds to three seconds. I asked the board members why we had to cut it the second time when it was allowed the first time in the bathroom scene, and the answer was that the first time she erases it. That's so arbitrary! But the first time we went for the censor certificate, half the members wanted to ban the film.

They wanted to ban NH10?
Yes. That's when we went to the revising committee. It was a surreal experience. There was a lady who seemed "liberal" " and I made that judgement by the cotton sari, bindi and silver jewellery she was wearing " I thought she would be on our side, but she was the one who said that the film needs to be banned, "because you guys are giving ideas to men on how to be violent towards women". I argued with her that real life is more horrific, and there are instances like the Delhi gangrape. She said, "Yeh sab educated women ke liye hota hai (These things are for educated women), masses influence hote hain."😆

As she should be and so should everyone else. Pretending a heinous act doesn't exist in society won't make it a fact. Showing it in movies won't encourage or increase it. That excuse given to Anushka was just so ridiculous. I think it's the ostrich mentality going on here. Let me burry my head in the sand and not worry about it all. Some of it might also be the remnants of the 80s and 90s where girls are sweet little virginal beings who won't say anything worse than kute or kamine and will wait for the hero to save her. That was how a moral decent Hindustani ladki/aurat was presented in Bollywood in those times and some people can't seem to get out of that zone.

Doordarshan banned the movie because of the child sexual abuse angle that is not even picturized. What does her young face have got to do with this?

Can they not show it after necessary cuts?

They did show SMJ episode on this issue on DD though.

But from this article that is not the issue. The issue is the child sexual abuse part of the story. And girl falling in love with her kidnapper has happened in Bollywood before. And once again I'm not sure what Alia's lack of GK has to do with anything here any more than her 12 year old looking face.

Watch monsoon wedding.. that was shocking and as real as it can get..

Highway is also about Stockholm syndrome as much as anything else, though Imtiaz himself might disagree with us 😆. Stockholm syndrome is real and the kidnapper's looks play very little part in the emotional reaction of the victims.

I think sometimes we project our own feelings of how a victim would or should react to a certain situation when we have no first hand knowledge of neither the situation nor the trauma and subsequent feelings. The result is we become judgmental and even accusatory when the victim's reaction does not match up with our own made up standards.

Monsoon Wedding was a fine film and handled the subject with lot of sensitivity.
Did DD show that film or not?

DD is quite particular about content it shows. Read how each episode of even Ramayan and MB used to be scrutinised and approved by a team of experts before it was telecast on TV.

How will they let films escape then? 😆
