And once again I'm not sure what Alia's lack of GK has to do with anything here any more than her 12 year old looking face.

Highway is also about Stockholm syndrome as much as anything else, though Imtiaz himself might disagree with us 😆. Stockholm syndrome is real and the kidnapper's looks play very little part in the emotional reaction of the victims.

I think sometimes we project our own feelings of how a victim would or should react to a certain situation when we have no first hand knowledge of neither the situation nor the trauma and subsequent feelings. The result is we become judgmental and even accusatory when the victim's reaction does not match up with our own made up standards.

Valid point.. we try to understand.. but can never get to know it was like "experience". But then how do we reflect?

In my eyes, my wife is scared of snakes.. if she watch one on tv (Hahaha, NZ does not have a single snake.. and I LOVE snakes).. she gets nightmares of snakes.

In ighway, Alia was little free bird who was so casual abt her kidnapping and everything else. No, sexually abused girl will act like that against another man.

In monsoon wedding, the kid girl didnt even know what kiss was, althou she thought she knew abt it.

Veera gets kidnapped by a group of goons, one of whom tries to sexually assault her. Mahabir walks in just in time and stops the guy and even yells and kicks the guy for trying to attack Veera. Later on Veera tells the story of how she was abused by a family friend and when she told her mother about it her own mother told her not to say anything and didn't do anything to stop it. So in Veera's eyes and in Veera's world Mahabir was the first person ever to protect her. After that point he's no longer her kidnapper. He's her savior. The fact that her rich snobbish family was stifling because they were too prim and proper and with Mahabir and his friend she was a free bird was an added bonus. Mahabir saving her plays a huge part here. It was still Stockholm syndrome though, but with a twist.

Oh that's such a great point!

I love this movie so much, Pataka Guddi and Sooha Saaha and Maahi Ve are such powerful and soothing songs.

Highway is one of my favorite movies of all time. Just because you are sexually abused as a child doesn't mean you can't be a free bird. What kind of logic is that? Veera's scars were invisible but like someone said here, Mahabir was one of the first person to protect her and didn't tell her to stop talking when she was telling her story. That for Veera meant everything. Talking about such an incident helps victims move on. That's the best kind of therapy. It's keeping it in that causes scars so deep that they can never be erased.

Alia was flawless in this movie. In fact this movie for me was flawless!
