I hated Dhruv. That's no secret. His character was insipid and boring. Whenever he came on screen, I turned off. That's how much I hated him. He was a Dhrub Sr.

But now.

First off. Utkarsh has come a long way. He's one of the actors who has significantly improved. His acting, his dialog delivery.. you can see that he's worked on it and that he really wants to do better. I appreciate that. And that's definitely paid off.
Coming to Dhruv. I didn't like Dhruv because he never did anything. He was too damn perfect. Mr Goody two shoes. YAWN boring.

A lot of people think he's being an ungrateful brat. Which I don't disagree with. But I see where Dhruv's coming from. When someone suffocates you, the way Manik does Dhruv, it makes you irrational. I've been there. Yes Manik's heart is in the right place, as it always is. But sometimes you don't want to be helped. you don't want to be protected.

Picture it.

You love a girl. Or maybe love is a strong word, you like a girl a lot. And then you find out you only had a chance because your best friend backed off.

Then you like another girl. One of your closest friend. You think you know all about her. And once again every waking moment you're reminded the only reason she's with you is because once again your best friend stepped back.

It's not a rational feeling.

Feelings rarely are.

Manik made decisions for Nandini. He made decisions for Dhruv too. IMO it's added up over the years.

When you want to step out of someone's shadow you don't care whether what you do is good or bad. You're not thinking if your actions are right or wrong... you just want to be an individual. You want to be your own person. Which is why Dhruv is fighting off not just Manik but everyone around him.

Manik needs this. He needs to understand he can't be everybody's savior. He needs to get over his God Complex when it comes to Dhruv. CVs are doing this brilliantly. They are not only developing Manik's character. But Dhruv's as well. He's finally being something.Yeah that's bit of a douche right now but in the long run he's finally standing out.

So yeah, I like this thing they have going on with Dhruv. I think the Manik-Dhruv equation will finally be less lopsided and perhaps even strengthen.

Well I like character development. Good or bad. Perhaps the CVs are finally aiming for the Bolt side of the audience, what say eh? 😆 The dark side deserves some love too. ;)

Are joo saying he's not a Dhrub sr. any longer? iCry🥺
But. but.

Then what about those 93 roses and bhaang inspired rants and vampire kisses..

The world will just never be the same again once he grows a personality.😳

Bolt in the house, Yo 🥳

I was indifferent towards him just for the same reason. He was too white, too perfect and just too passive. Thats not human, we could see the dysfunctional side of his personally. I cried about his growth and waited, waited...till he snapped and how.

It was building for years. The first scene was evident when he punched Manik. He believed a random newbie over his Dost for years, .

That time I was judgmental of his friendship but not today. One could see he was always looking for an out. But never had a reason to step out.

This relationship with Manik was becoming an albatross for both of them. They both were hiding stuff,l their feelings and compromising their own self.

Dhruv was affected when Nandini will talk only about Manik. He was upset when his buddy be troubling the girl he liked. There was always this resentment, he tried protesting against it. Twice. When he intentionally hit that spit filled cup or when he requested Manik to go easy on Nandini. It never worked, he felt slighted.

Yet he moved on. He was in a happy space because Alya distracted him , gave hi her sole attention. He became her star, her anchor and this boy who suffers from inferiority complex was reveling in her gushing. This stopped when reality hit him.

The girl who was out and open with his buddy was now shy of going public with him. He didn't listen to anything, ignored her reasoning because his own hurt superseded everything. Just everything reminded him how he was the second choice , the "back-up plan" that Manik has created over the years.

Even the girl was he crushed on preferred his Buddy even though he was her tormentor. So what was the use of being good? Being a back-up?

This with repeated incidents where everything he felt for Alya was in his head started measuring to her thing with Manik , he snapped. he couldn't take it anymore. Whichever emotions he touches right now, hiw life is full of Manik. it;s very selfish POV but the one he has been neglecting over the years.

A part of him has found courage to be assertive of his opinion. he doesn't care for emotions being hurt , he has his freedom of finally saying his opinions. he will err , regret and move on. But boy is finally making his own choices, decisions. There is no Manik stopping, guiding or protecting him.

This friendship was so unfair to them. Somewhere they just became each ther's ergo. Enabling each other, while aware of the disntictions between them.Good guy, Bad guy. It made their friendship a conditions apply thing.

It doesn't matter if Dhruv is being a dick or not. Manik's hold on their past is slipping and it;s only then he can mark Dhruv as an equal and ask him friend for a fair fight. That respect to be treated as an equal. Right or wrong doesn't matter. Just to be recognized by his best friend, not as a brother but as Dhruv is enough for this Topi Boy.

It's his revolt party, and his break from his own shackles.

Just by compering himself to their bullying victims , he showed mirror to fab5, ignoring how he conveniently washed his hands off but boy is airing his views.

This will be the start of their new and better friendship.

P.S - I am just having too much fun with Dhruv.

Shreya,(right?), that was very thoughful post and trust me, i had totally lost connect with the character, but your writing put it in a better perspective.I never had a problem with him lashing out on manik, like even today when he called him out as jealous , i was like yeah "right on manik's face".To a point , manik needs this to grow out of his over protective streak.Anything kills when overdosed, so here the over protectiveness foiled the relation.Understood...But i still cant get to see how he reacts or lashes out on the other.Be it alya, the girl took so much effort to make things work, lame ones, but still.Even after all the drama, the girl still went ahead and embraced him only to be shunned out with a disgusting line...No matter what, i need alya to give him one hell of a time before getting back or may be not at all.In a point to shut out manik, dhurv has taken catastrophic route lashing out on all his friends. If the guy dint want to be in manik's shadow, shouldn't he have reached out to mukti and go about doing something significant to help her out , in a bid to shine with his own individuality.Turning a blind ear to it, only reinforces that you were never a true friend to them and will enable more of the Manik chant around in people. As i write all this, i realise that the guy has a dense head right now and like you said, he is reacting irrationally.so i will let him off the hook for now.I am not gonna like this anytime soon, but atleast i dont hate him now.BTW dialogues like "i am your last priority like always" makes him ambigous , and stupid...that was so lame one to come from a guy who was trying to stay away from manik

@genie you STAR.

EXACTLY. WORD.

You have a guy who's been in the side lines for too long. He was fine there for a long time. But now. Now it's the final breaking point. He's snapped.

Every time he asks - Manik's there, who wants me? or Ofc I'm never first priority.. we see a douche but the truth is it's the feeling of being sidelined and ignored by pretty much everyone.

His friends, his lover(s) they see Dhruv as someone who is a back up plan for Manik. Even Manik says it.

Poor guy was bound to break.

A good fight. A couple of punches. Some stern talking... the Manik/Dhruv equation will be a delight to watch,.

What a curveball though.
It's been their story too.

Since that dreaded night. They have lived under each other's shadows.

Good Guy. Bad Guy.
Both struggling to embrace their own self.
Their disbelief about their abilities to love.
Inferiority complex wrt each other.
Every life decision to be around the two of them, not as an individual.
Compromising feelings and emotions.

There lives have intersected way too many times and they have compromised, not any more.

They both are now finding their own balance independent of each other. Such a heartening sight.

They will have to fight, punch and talk to learn that they can be friends without enabling. Their friendship is evolving too , the changes are so beautiful .
