India forum is a small example of what all is wrong with india as a country and society. An actress from a daily soap deepika singh has accused her costar of 4 years anas rashid of misbehaving with her during a shoot. he touched her inappropriately while shooting a romantic scene. now i dont know who is sayin the truth or who is lying but just reading the comments on this article made me barf. so many people are blaming the actress and giving comments like if anas has not misbehaved with her in the last 4 years then why will he suddenly do so? and deepika might have misunderstood him. or worse, someone wrote that she should be ready to be touched anywhere on her body because she is an actress.🤢 and i can bet most of these comments are by women themselves.

another thing that caught my fancy is the news of popular actor karan patel getting married. most of his fans are happy that he is marrying a 'nice sweet homely' girl Anikta bhargava and not the divorced mother of a child, Kamya punjabi whom he was dating. karan's parents were not happy with his relationship and did not want a divorced mother as the bahu of their house. it does not matter that karan himself is a big player and has been linked with many woman himself. Also he is known for his aggressive behaviour. But because he is a man, he deserves a sweet homely virginal girl and not someone like kamya, who is second hand material. some of his fans are writing that anikta the girl he is going to marry will be a good influence on him. So bad boys deserve good girls who can change them but bad girls do not deserve good boys who can make their life better?

So pathetic and so sad. Any wonder that india is the hotbed of crime against woman. just look at the thinking of people. and these are the people who have access to internet. people who are educated and aware. if they think of woman like this, then what is wrong with the thinking of people like mukesh singh who feels that woman who are indepenedent or go out late at night should be tortured and raped.

True!

Same happened when actress Paridhi Sharma reportedly accused director of harassment. She was bashed.

I have even read statements like actress works for timepass whereas actor works because he has to run his home, feed his family. As if woman's work and earnings have no value!

Many female users themselves bash female characters and go gaga over abusive males.

This is what I always say, that we see enough display of mentality in real lives. The documentary didn't tell us anything we didn't know.

Freida is completely right in what she's saying.
Rape isn't just an isolated problem. A lot of it has to do with the view that women are worthless or subordinate to men.

It starts from birth itself. The female ratio is so skewed in India and there are literally millions of women missing that should have existed. They are either aborted or die within the first few years based on various things like malnutrition. Boys are the preferred gender because they will grow up and bring in dowry and marry a woman who will come to their house and take care of their family, including old and frail in-laws. Boys are their retirement policy while girls are considered burdens who they have to spend money to raise and educate and then they leave and go care for someone else's family.

In a family that has monetary troubles, the boys do get more/better food and get educated in better schools. Girls get a lot of extra responsibilities like cooking and cleaning along with whatever schoolwork they have. I have seen it myself in middle class families where the boys are raised as little princes and do absolutely no household work and have no chores. Their only responsibility is to study. This idea is created that women are just there to serve them.

Until desi culture grows up and changes various old traditions like dowries and joint families, nothing is going to change.

I think there is nothing wrong in showing how the rapists think...if you do not know what the criminals are thinking how will you solve the problem? Yes we already know what they think but it was still eye opening to hear both the rapist and the lawyers ...and honestly we desi people worry too much about image...what's the point of having a nice image when the inner core is shit? We have a mindset problem...we really do...and it has nothing to do with education or poverty...it is to do with how we value our women and we don't value them very highly. And yes it exists everywhere- women are not exactly on equal grounds yet in the world! But that doesn't mean we do not examine our problems which is more acute than say in the US- in the US if I get raped because I went out at night, no one is going to say it is my fault and I should not have gone out at night! Therein lies the difference between everywhere and the Indian subcontinent!

err... I can think of plenty of examples where the victim of rape would have been blamed in the US, too. Does the victim-blaming from the Steubenville rape case ring a bell? or how CNN grieved the verdict handed to the girl's rapists for they were "promising footballers"? Lincoln U President Jennings would definitely blame the victim. Todd Akin might haggle over whether the rape was "legitimate rape" or not and if Paul Ryan (Vice Presidential Nominee, btw!) had his way, he would pass bills allowing rapists to have a say in whether the victim aborts a child resulting from rape. Oh, this is to say nothing of Rivard, Wisconson Rep., who went on record to state "Some girls, they rape easy"🤢.

College counselors telling victims of rape "Rape is like football, and you're the quarterback; when you look back on a game, Annie, how would you have done things differently?" is the very definition of rape culture. Let's not even pretend that this rotten mentality is exclusive to India or the Indian subcontinent.
